Alteration of Revelation 3:14 in the 4th century to support the emerging Trinity doctrine

in an earlier thread another poster asserted that there is no evidence that revelation 3:14 played a part in the 4th controversy that led to the trinity doctrine.

this was claimed as evidence that the description of jesus as “the beginning of the creation of god” in the verse was not understood to mean that jesus was god’s first creation.

the scholarly greek–english lexicon of the new testament & other early christian literature 3e (2001) by bauer, arndt, gingrich, and danker, in its latest edition states that “first creation” is indeed the probable meaning of the greek phrase.

No. This indicate that God has a throne and the Lamb has one also.

Rev 3:21 Indicates that Jehovah has a throne and Jesus was given authority on it. And Jesus says those that conquer (the 144,000) get authority to rule with him.

Also Rev 2 & 3 are the messages to the congregations. It must be read in that context.

Why does it matter what Russell said and did prior to then?

The only thing that matters is when the banding of the tree ended and the kingdom was established. Russell had nothing to do with that.

Nothing to do with being allowed. It's a matter of that's not how it works.

Why would anyone want t pray to Jesus when he said: "“You must pray, then, this way: “‘Our Father in the heavens"

Romans 1:8 "I give thanks to my God through Jesus Christ concerning all of you,"

John 14:6 "Jesus said to him: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"

The only thing indicating any form of prayer to Jesus is: John 14:13 "Also, whatever you ask in my name, I will do this, so that the Father may be glorified in connection with the Son. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it"

But that is so narrow and specific it can hardly be consider a prayer.

Why would 1914 change? The only thing that can change is stating that we don't have the exact date of the start or end. It is not as Russell presented it, Oct 1st. He thought that God waited on a calendar.

That's not true. That's not what Christians are warned not to do.

Rev 22:18 says " “I am bearing witness to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll; and if anyone takes anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the holy city, things that are written about in this scroll."

It is specifically about the scroll of the prophesy.

When JW.org drops 607BCE...

probably everyone else thought of this long ago, but i, being an "independent thunker" thunk of it just a coupla weeks ago.. we all know that since the year zero (on the fredfranzian calendar) the wtb&ts has defied archaeology and insisted that jerusalem was destroyed in 607 bce, even though the physical evidence shows that 587 bce is a more likely date.

in fact, the book "the gentile times reconsidered: have jehovah's witnesses been wrong all along about 607 bce?

" by carl olof jonsson and rud persson made this conversation public.. it is a difference of 20 years.

Not true at all.

Sam Herd was born in 1934 and he is the oldest of the governing body so the governing body could not have been chosen in 1919.

In case you didn't know the GB of today is not the same as the one in the 80s and 70s. Prior it was the board of directors of the WTBTS.

Jesus didn't choose a Governing body or a board of directors. He observed people back in the early 1800s that were searching for truth in the scriptures. They searched chronology. Brown, Clinton, Bowen, Elliott, Barbour and Russell, Jesus saw them going in the right direction and observed and aided them. The GB doesn't need credibility because of 1919. 1919 was from that convention that they had then not because of chronology.

You all do know that the start of the gentile times is not based on the destruction of Jerusalem, as that was in 587. It was 20 years prior, in around 607. We don't know the exact event or dated that triggered the banding of the tree, stating that Russell was offbase for saying Oct 1, 1914 was the end,, but it is around that time.

The whole convention is focused on Jesus birth and childhood. Episode 1 is pretty good. The actors and sets and narration is pretty good. And it is good that they are talking about Jesus, so don't knock it.

God, one person, or three?

the trinity doctrine says god is three persons in one being.. yet the bible says god is one.. gal 3.20 a mediator, however, implies more than one party; but god is one.

Must be. How else do people get the scriptures wrong. Make up scriptures and miss the meaning and purpose of Jesus? They elevate him to the status of equal to God when that's not his place.
