My point was that the Christian congregation was patterned after Israel. The Christian congregation elders would do what the elders in Israel did. And those ones were also lords over the people and became the pharisees.

Elders are older men and they would be the equivalent of the older men of the tribes of Israel.
In the congregations they have the role of overseers of the congregations.

New Article - Birthdays, Why the Watchtower stance is wrong
by jwfacts ini have a new article at http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/birthdays.php outlining why the watchtower stance against birthdays is wrong.
there have been a number of threads on jwn discussing this, and the article collates and summarises the points raised in these threads.
please feel free to point out any errors in grammar or logic.

"we all have only one Birth, day. Each year after that is just an anniversary “" That is so correct. Like a wedding is once and then after that it is a wedding anniversary.
But the JW stance on birthday celebrations is wrong because: people in the Bible killed others on their birthday celebrations so that automatically makes such things generally wrong.
The Bible describes the devil as a dragon, so all dragons are bad.
The Bible says a serpent, snake was used by the Devil, so are all snakes bad?
What is bad is the generalization, the stereotyping. One thing bad, everything of that category is bad. is the opposite true? One thing good and everything in that category is good?

This is just them being pharisees in creating rules from things vaguely in the Bible. They made refusing birthday treats a matter of loyalty to Jehovah.

This question is for PIMO
by Iamallcool ini have been out for years!
how often do people get df’d in 2021?
just wondering!

among that list, which of those would pass constitutional muster of not being vague?
bestiality and lap dances and use of tobacco and sexual abuse of children? The rest are pharisee laws.

GB 2021 Update #10 - "get vaccinated"
by neat blue dog inam the turd comes the closest to just coming right out and telling jws they have to do it.
he says, 'there's no need to worry, just keep doing what works: wear masks, wash your hands and get vaccinated when possible'.
the busybodies are going to be even more insufferable now than they have been.

He said that 25,658 have died from Covid. Is that worldwide? That is 3.2% of the 800,000 that have died. But 25K is a high number. I would expect that the JWs to have no deaths because they are following the government protocols and doing all of the safety stuff

Dating in the Org
by Rattigan350 inyou men, who were brothers in the congregation and you were dating sisters in the congregation, did you find that they cared more about how you made them look in the congregation than they cared about you?.
you women, who were sisters in the congregation and you were dating brothers in the congregation, were you more concerned about how he affected your status & how you were viewed in the congregation, than you cared about him?.

What are the maim lies Apostates tell about Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Vanderhoven7 inmain not maim.
picked this answer up on quora.
please add other apostate "lies" you are aware of.. "jehovah's witnesses cannot refute the facts in the so-called “ lies” against them, and when they do, they shamelessly lie and tell half-truths to defend their mind-controlling sect.. their new york based leaders tell them that anything negative said about their sect is a “ lie “ from “ mentally diseased, bitter apostates”.. jws are yet to come to terms with the fact that we are in the information age and they can no longer get away with lying to protect their organisation.. for example, one of the “ lies “ told about them is that they shun anyone who leaves the cult , including family members, including their own children.. another “ lie “ is that jws are ready to allow their children to die rather than accept a life-saving blood transfusion.. the child sex abuse coverup in the cult is also said to be a “lie “.

One of the main lies is that it is significant that the Watchtower said Jesus is not their mediator.

by pistolpete innew information added to the "shepherd the flock elder's book" .

it states that a person viewing child pornography should be strongly counseled.

Listener, why are you quoting websites.
18 U.S.C. § 1466A (2018)
(a) In General.—Any person who, in a circumstance described in subsection (d), knowingly produces, distributes, receives, or possesses with intent to distribute, a visual depiction of any kind, or attempts or conspires to do so
(b) Additional Offenses.—Any person who, in a circumstance described in subsection (d), knowingly possesses a visual depiction of any kind
Does not say viewing. but it might be presumed that viewing would include possessing. Someone could view without doing those things mentioned above.
(e) Affirmative Defense.—It shall be an affirmative defense to a charge of violating subsection (b) that the defendant—
(1) possessed less than 3 such visual depictions; and
(2) promptly and in good faith, and without retaining or allowing any person, other than a law enforcement agency, to access any such visual depiction—
(A) took reasonable steps to destroy each such visual depiction; or
(B) reported the matter to a law enforcement agency and afforded that agency access to each such visual depiction.

" shouldn’t the elders be calling the cops?" Viewing child porn is not illegal. Knowingly produces, distributes, receives, or possesses with intent to distribute or mails is illegal.
