How Do You Know You Are In The Wrong Religion?
by Vanderhoven7 ini believe this list which many of us worked on needs to see the light of day again...and added to if possible.. you know you are in the wrong religion:1. when the all important question is not: "do you believe in the lord jesus christ?"....but....
"do you believe in the "faithful and discreet slave" appointed in brooklyn in 1919?"2.
when you will be refused baptism if: a. you don't believe jerusalem was destroyed in 607 bc (whereas all non-jw scholars, all encyclopedias and all history books say this event took place in 587 bc.)b.

Careful what you wish for! Regarding Jehovah in the New Testament
by pizzahut2023 inok i'll bite.. let's say for a moment that jehovah's witnesses are right, and that the nt autographs (the originals) contained the tetragrammaton.let's say that the nt writers always wrote "jehovah" in greek (iexoba, as the witnesses spell it currently) when they quoted the hebrew scriptures, whether they quoted from the hebrew version or the septuagint, and jehovah's name appeared on the quote.
let's say that the original septuagint always had iexoba whenever they were referring to jehovah.then we have that the original septuagint said in psalms 101:26-28 the following:"at the beginning it was you, o jehovah, who founded the earth, and the heavens are works of your hands.
they will perish, but you will endure, and they will all become old like a garment.

(1 Peter 2:3, 4) is not a quote from Psalms.
And they would not be using the septuagint.
"How can the Watchtower Society reconcile Isaiah 44:24 with Hebrews 1:10?"
What is there to reconcile?
Isaiah was addressing the Israelites and they have followed false gods. That is why vs 6 says "There is no God but me". Jesus is not God like him. As vs 7 says "Who is there like me? Let him call out and tell it and prove it to me! From the time I established the people of long ago,"
Here it is not a matter of Jehovah vs Jesus. It is Jehovah vs the gods of the nations. Context is so important.
If Paul quoted that in Heb 1:10, he wasn't referring to Jesus. In Heb 1 he starts out saying "Long ago God spoke to our forefathers by means of the prophets on many occasions and in many ways. Now at the end of these days he has spoken to us by means of a Son". So it is clear that Paul knows that God used people prophets and now a Son. So he recognizes Jehovah and Jesus.
Context is so important.

The currently missing 'Titan' submarine. What do you think?
by SydBarrett inany opinions are just speculation, but my guess, being morbid, is that there was not a hull breach and implosion (although that would have been the most merciful fate for them), but instead the amateur level of building this thing meant that it lost power and communication and got itself tangled in the titanic's wreckage or is sitting on the actual seabed with no way to release ballast to resurface.
terrifying.
what's your gut feeling?

Maybe it never left and this is some hoax or scam and they all are watching this on TV.

Conventions and circuit assemblies, which are the same in this case, are the occasions where the singles meet other singles.
Without them, there is no future generations.

Is Disfellowshipping properly legislated?
by Rattigan350 inin the insight book under expelling, it refers to 1 cor 5 and titus 3 and 2 thess 3 as the basis for disfellowshipping.they've often said that the governing body was stated in acts 15 of the apostles and older men.
however, why was there no decree or letter issued by the governing body or apostles and older men and sent out to the congregations, detailing the principles of disfellowshipping?
it is all paul.

The reason that the organization has the shunning policy is to put a wall around the people in the congregation to control the information that they get.
My query was that it is odd how people follow the apostles or letters from them when they are no different than a circuit or district overseer, or a Bethel Elder giving a letter or talk. The letters in the Bible were not outlines or manuscripts written and approved by the governing body, faithful slaves and then distributed to all the congregations. It's not like the organization policy today. People like to look to the ones that have been called Saints with reverence.

However, why was there no decree or letter issued by the Governing Body or Apostles and Older men and sent out to the congregations, detailing the principles of disfellowshipping? It is all Paul. I mean, if Chief Justice John Roberts speaks to a group and makes statements, those are not law or rules. It is considered his opinion. It is only when a quorum of the court makes a decision and issues an opinion is it law.So, why is a doctrine and procedure created based on only what Paul said? -

The Last Days of a Pioneer

I pioneered back in the late 80s, early 90s because the organization was growing, flourishing. The fulfillment of expectations was yet ahead. The anointed number was going down & 1914 + 80 was yet ahead. There was plenty of spiritual food and the meetings and assemblies to invite people to. The DOs and COs were good and respected. The governing body back then meant something. They went back to the 1920s and even 1914. They had history.
Now a days there is none of that.

The only thing that I liked about field service was the indepth stuff. Arguing the trinity and who go to heaven and other doctrinal material. I never wanted a Bible study because I can't imagine myself sitting across from someone and telling them to read this paragraph and then to answer this question, and then to tell them how to live their lives and then having them do the questions for baptism.
About 10 years ago I just stopped doing it because I just don't care about these random people we are meeting at the doors.

American Healthcare: How your system works
by Diogenesister incanada has universal healthcare.
the consensus is that america never will.
can anyone explain why, please?
-
Rattigan350
The problem with universal health care is that there is no money in it or for it.
So it runs slowly.
And it is rife for abuse. If anyone can go in and get free healthcare, what reason would they have to take care of themselves?

These are not Regional or District conventions.
They are 3 day circuit assemblies. They are using Assembly Halls and small city centers city arenas and not big stadiums. It's all about cost savings.
