All numbers in Revelation are literal numbers, but the numbers and things that are numbers symbolize things.
There are literally 7 bowl, 7 trumpets, 7 seals, 4 horsemen, and 144,000 anointed ones.
i recently realized something interesting about jw theology and thought i'd share it with the rest of the class: as most of us know, a distictive facet of watchtower/jw theology is the concept that the 144,000 in revelation chapters 7 and 14 is a literal number.
thus, the witnesses believe that exactly 144,000 humans will be resurrected to heaven to rule with jesus christ, while the rest of the witnesses will populate a restored paradise earth.. they also teach that the 24 elders in revelation represent the 144,000 kings and priests in heaven.
so, when rev.

the following is from the latest study watchtower july 2025, study article 28, paragraph 17:.
each christian must make up his or her own mind about whether to accept or to reject these fractions.
we may find it a challenge to understand this matter fully, but making decisions like this is part of the load that each of us must carry.
There will be changes because they will realize that medical use of blood is not against God's law. God's law is only what is on Gen 9:4 and it can't be expanded beyond that.
Duran, they are lowering standards and making things more palatable for the people. They are just having a difficult time to figure out how to do that with blood. They are starting with fractions and working their way to the other components to whole blood.
Well, It's not that Jesus chose them, but that they pursued the truth and doing the will of his Father.
Then Jesus blessed them because they did that.
yeah so got invited this year and just thought what a waste of my time no one partakes in the wine or bread the talk has been the same for 20 years i would rather stay home.
Why does everyone focus on the anointed? There is nothing special about them.
Now there aren't any anointed on earth; if there are, it is just a handful.
No need to worry about them.
The Memorial is for the apostles only, not for us today.
hi .
who do you think are the best historian/historians about the history of jehovahs witnesses?.
paul.
None of the above.
I'm the best historian.
i think i may be moving on shortly.
i officially joined this web-site 12 years ago as pimo about to exit the organisation.
i had spent about a year before that, as just a none commenting member.
There was a while where I was antijw, but then there is this person that I work with who was dating a guy for a couple of years, intimate non-marital relationship. Then she breaks up with him and in turn then there is hatred and retaliation and he files lawsuits against her in retaliation.
It's like every case on Judge Judy. The bottom line is what is said in 2 Tim 3:3. Not open to any agreement. Parents suing children and vice versa. Brother against sister. Boyfriend and girlfriend live together, make loans and breakup. People getting drunk and causing property damage.
People of the world don't have standards and then they make messes of their lives and this unwillingness to agree or find common ground can lead to conflict and a breakdown of relationship. I've come to see that is now how it is among Jehovah's Witnesses. There are standards and people are to seek peace and pursuit it. Contrary to what balaamsass said, it is not the Watchtower that did damage. It is trying to prevent damage. It is the world that does the damage.
what's with the attack (counsel) on husbands with no corresponding article for wives on the jan 2025 w that is being studied today?.
is there a point to that?.
They mentioned men watching pornography, but remember. The wives need to do their part in keeping in shape and showing it.

a jaw dropping announcements and reminders for elders this month.
how can you serve as an elder and believe this organization is spirit directed after reading this letter?.
"The Bible does not provide details as to what sexual practices between a husband and a wife should be considered clean or unclean."
The problem is that in the 1972 they said that oral sex was wrong because Paul refers to “the natural use of the female,” which some were abandoning in favor of what is “contrary to nature,” thus satisfying “disgraceful sexual appetites” and “working what is obscene.”
What makes Paul our boss? The one who says what is right or wrong? The Watchtower writers like to use the writings of the apostles because they like to have authority to lean on. That's not how it is supposed to work.
"Paragraph 9: "Being sexually demeaning. Some husbands pressure their wife to engage in sexual acts that are demeaning and that make her feel unclean or unloved.""
That again refers to oral sex as it is demeaning. See they did that without referring to Paul.
i've always had difficulty understanding how watch tower interprets 1 thessalonians 5:3 as prophetic of a future event - that the nations will unite in a (false) cry that they have achieved 'peace and security' which will signal the start of the great tribulation.
whenever i've read that passage i got the sense that it is simply stating a general principle... that when people are complacent and off-guard, thinking everything is o.k., peaceful and secure then sudden unexpected events hit them harder and they don't know what to do.
when i was first coming in (1980s) i well recall the "true peace and security" book that made a big deal about the un having declared 1986 'the international year of peace'.
1 Thess 5:3 is not a prophesy.
The Watchtower liked to use that scripture because they like future prophesies to lead people.
First to have a prophesy, there must be a prophet to relay it. Paul was not a prophet. Paul was a historian and he was just comparing the history of Israel from the past to how it will again play out in the future.
The nations are not the ones declaring peace and security. I was the people that did that in the past because they had temporary peace such as when Babylon went against Jerusalem and when Rome destroyed Jerusalem. Any connection to the future would be about the wild beast attacking the harlot and then a break in the action and people would declare peace and then they both would be destroyed.
