  Homosexuality and Social Policy

  post jw life requires us to think as members of the larger society as we look at issues from the perspective of a member of a participatory government.

  unlike jw life, we get to have a say in what kind of life we experience for ourselves and our children.

  i will present a series of issues that require our judgment, that we as former jehovahs witnesses were prevented in having a say in and may not have ever given much thought to.

  I would have no problem with my daughter coming to me and saying that she wanted to try out her bi side. I would have no problem with her being "homo".

  Sorry I can't agree with you there Perry. I've never heard of a cult that was made up of 2 people.

  But, don't ask me to spend my tax dollars to support an agenda that the majority of citizens consider to be outside the area of social sanction.

  No one is asking you to spend your tax dollars on a social agenda. Only that you don't discriminate, with tax dollars, against people just because of your religious views.

  Wow!

  I love the issue but who can stand to read all the statistics and studies done by biased groups?

  I am of the opinion that if you go down to the courthouse and apply for a marraige liscense gender should not be on the application. If someone chooses to make someone of the same gender a mate then what right does the government/majority have to say about it?

  I say, Who cares why someone is gay? Who cares if their brother or sister is gay? All that matters is this person chooses this lifestyle to be happy and it doesn't interfere with the liberty and happiness of others.

  What - if any - Religon are you now practicing?

  i know this seems like a dumb subject.. but i often wonder if many of us still believe and feel the need to worship - and not the borg either .

  so here is a poll.... what religious orginization - if any - are you affiliated ( this does not mean you had to join it)?.

  or - do you feel that everything is wrong due to the borg..and will you ever consider going to an organized religon again??.

  I have seen religion and all I see are more unsubstantiated beliefs. In the future I will keep an open mind and examine all the possibilities but I will not believe in something unless there is substancial evidence. I agree with the comments posted by Seeker4. Religion tries to scare people with god or the rest of the world, then tries to tell everyone that god will save them and love them if they worship him.

  Spirituality? There are forces that we don't understand. Whether they are in our mind or not doesn't matter. We need to explore, to continue to learn but we don't have to jump on a feeling that we get and make a belief out of it. In other words, I refuse to let anyone, including myself, fill in the blanks between what we know and what we feel.

  hehe, all my best threads usually have all-caps in the titles.

  this one's a doozy!.

  i went out to this nightclub near my work last night (saturday night), and i was having a good old time, when i decided to sit down on a big, flat futon couch near the entrance to one of the dancefloors for a while (it's an outdoors club!).

  Competing In the name of Jehovah!

  inspired while posting on another thread, i was wondering, have you ever competed with other jws to get recognition or favour??

  i can remember as a kid, being in a book study group with other kids, and when it came time to give an answer that kids could cope with...all kiddie sized hands would fly up and we'd all look at each other in the hope that it was our hand that got chosen.

  i remember some kids would burst into tears if they didn't get chosen...and others would scowl or quickly go about looking for the next answer.

  I can remember volunteering to handle the mics so no one would know that I didn't study. Sometimes I didn't even have a magazine. I would read along over someone's shoulder and then give a comment while standing there with no magazine. Boy, did I sound smart. Actually after 20 years you know all the answers by heart. LOL

  JW Doctors can give Blood Transfusions.

  some doctors who are jehovahs witnesses have administered blood transfusions to persons of the world upon request.

  however, they do not do so in the case of one of jehovahs dedicated witnesses.

  There were all kinds of tricks to not have to do what I was supposed to. When it was our book study's time to clean the hall after the meeting, I would get involved in a "very important discussion" with an elder or elders wife. As long as I was talking to an elder no one would make me run that vacuum.

  I used to be one of the teenagers competing for the answer on the last paragraph. It was always one of those easy ones asking what we'll be studying next week. Then if you didn't get called on, you can always tell your parents that you raised your hand but the conductor didn't call on you.

  when i was replying to nicolas' question in another thread, i used the following scripture to show why jws are always so tired:"the scribes and the pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of moses.

  therefore all the things they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but do not perform.

  they bind up heavy loads and put them upon the shoulders of men, but they themselves are not willing to budge them with their finger.

  I had an average size cheap bag but it wasn't very worn. I just sold it at a garage sale for 50 cents. (I would have given it away.)
