I was also wondering if different religions appeal to different personalities. For example, a high control, highly structured religion attracts a certain type, and a more emotionally-driven religion attracts a different type.

i was going through the personality types of the briggs-myers test (take the free test here) and noticed how some types are naturally inclined to follow rules and expect order, while others are inclined towards feelings and emotional appeals, other are naturally inclined to help out others ... what do you think?
are there certain basic personality types that pre-dispose the individual to adhere to a certain type of religion ?.

when i first came to this site.
whenever i would try to talk about somethign from the bible that the jw's got wrong or reason on a scripture that had so much feeling you would stomp all over it.
talking about "flying spaghetti gods" and laugh at what seemed to be my expense and then leave the thread never to return and add any substance.
The problem isn't Cofty.
It's coftism.

we are mentally diseased in ways that most normal people cannot understand.
it does bare asking " what part did the wt.
have in causing this problem?
In any case, the greek term rendered "mentally diseased" in the NWT actually is more properly translated as "obcessed". In some aspects, this is true. Many of the ex-JW's who left and became apostates did so because they become obcessed about publicly proving the WT wrong and exposing it for its wrongdoings.
Of course, the spin that the WT puts on that expression leads to equal apostates with 'people who ought to be confined to a mental institution'.
Although the context of that text is talking about something else entirely - the development of gnosticism within the Christian congregation.

i believe most witnesses believe that there is nothing new in their religion....would you agree with them?.
There's less zeal and less awareness of the doctrinal foundations of the JW's belief system. Less bible-minded people, less effective publishers. Less room for individuallity. Everything is basically pre-scripted. More emphasys than ever is placed in "obeying". Indeed things are more relaxed these days, except when it comes to enforcement of the shunning policies.

Why don't you just take pride in blind faith despite all the evidence to the contrary. That I could respect.
Right there is the sort of condescending attitude towards believers that poisons any discussion with you. Besides, you're not being true to yourself. You don't respect blind faith - nor do you acknowledge any other kind of faith but a 'blind one' - at all.

Thank you Pterist.
I don't know what just happened to my eyes, but went through many exams and they couldn't find anything wrong and in the meantime it slowly fixed itself. Scary.

This is the reason why I think that Agnosticism and Apatheism make theoretical sense, whereas pure atheism doesn't make sense, as is as devoided of empirical evidence just as much as the theism it attempts to disprove.
Another thing that causes me to cringe is that most atheists insist that atheism is rooted in 'good' science, whereas theism is either rooted in simple mythology or 'poor' science.
