before i dive into the actual write-up of this experience, let me put some things straight.. i have thought long and hard if i should write more about my experiences during the 10+ years at different branches.

during these years i worked from financial department, service department, home office and different it assignments.

as you can imagine one sees and hears and reads a lot of stuff going through different stations in different countries.

dear forumites, i need your advise please.. i would like to write a letter to the world headquarters of the jehovah's witnesses regarding a subject that i've published an article recently.

i would like to draw the attention of the gb to said article, which i will send in print form (therefore, no attention would be drawn to the website where it was published).. naturally, because i am a jehovah's witness in good standing in the congregation and what i'll be discussing in my letter will be a dissenting view from the official doctrine/practice, i want to protect my identity and i don't want to be harassed by elders or subjected to any sort of judicial investigation.

nevertheless, i would be very interested in reading their response (if any) to my letter.. how can i do that?

I realise it's virtually impossible to get through the bureaucracy so that it reaches whom it matters (i.e. member(s) of the GB), but in any case I'm also doing this for myself, as some sort of closure for my own conscience. In the very slim chance it would make any difference to the decision-makers in Bethel, I would experiment a great deal of inner satisfaction for contributing to a change in policy that might bring relief to thousands of human beings that suffer. That's why I feel it's still worth trying.

What I realize is the crux of the matter is to not give them the chance to "pay me a visit" back - only write.

Oubliette, I acknowledge what is the current "status quo" of procedures in the congregation. I know it makes a difference to the upper ranks to be in good standing or not in the way they handle these questions. That's all.

this is a very strange thing for me to do.

i have been an active witness for over 25 years.

i currently serve as an elder and i conduct the watchtower study.

I can totally relate with you. I'm currently serving as MS and served as an Elder for years before I resigned for personal reasons. Nowadays I make clear that I don't want to serve as an Elder again - I give many excuses, but the knowledge I obtained about the Organization and its teachings doesn't allow me to serve in such position in good conscience. My wife is basically like your wife. Very faithful, doesn't question anything, sees some flaws but she sweeps everything under the carpet and is terrified when she senses me being critical towards the "mother". Actually she made it very clear that if she had to choose between me or Jehovah's Organization, she would choose the latter. So, I know what to expect from there.

If you conduct the Watchtower study, may I also conclude that you're the COTBOE in your congregation?

In any case, please thread carefully, you have much to lose. Trust no one. It's very tempting to try to get validation from other Elders, but in the end you will be fed to the machine as dead meat. Don't take it to the CO or DO either. They're absolutely Company men - their "jobs" and paycheck depend on that. It's a very solitary space where you are.

In any case, please take courage. There are others in this forum in your exact situation. Feel free if you'd like to PM me about anything.

cognac, that's a possibility that I pondered. And in fact, I'm prepared to assume.

jgnat, that would be a good idea, but JW's are too afraid to even discuss these topics between themselves, even if they agree or lean towards this opinion. The fear of snitching is just too great. That wouldn't work, unless we could gather signatures from active witnesses from a forum like this, all of them under anonimity. But I don't think that would be taken any more seriously than a single Witness writing to them, so I wonder if that would be worth the effort.

I guess, in the words of the TV reporter in "Bruce, the Almighty", I want to see just "how the cookie crumbles" by myself.

Also, note that I don't disagree with disfellowshipping, although I think it should only be used in extreme cases. What I argue against is the shunning that follows.

I believe they do know. But I also believe they are reactive, not proactive. Perhaps, even if they don't write any reply, or a stock "shut up and obey" type of answer, it will linger on their heads and some change may come. Heck, they may even claim they had "new light" about the matter. I don't really care how that might be presented - but I would like that to change.

Robert,

You presume I want to leave the Jehovah's Witnesses. I don't, unless I absolutely must. I would rather do something to promote changes. Utopic? Perhaps, but every trip starts with the first step. I'm just curious to see the reaction, I suppose, and if something comes out of it.
