Marvin,
I don't intend to make a big issue out of this. I said what I said, raised an alert. I rest my case now.

I believe you're missing my point. Of course paedophiles do insinuate themselves insidiously with children using the JW's activities. I've seen dozens of reports. As you agreed, they're patient and this happens gradually, even if the entire script is already written inside their heads. I'm merely pointing out to the nature of the title of the article, which is a blanket title that lends to people passing judgement upon any and every Witness that knocks on their door as a potential paedophile and reacting negatively towards the Witnesses based, not on the rejection of the doctrines, but on the hate towards the group. That's all.

I fully agree with you. Please understand that my objection is towards the title of the article, nothing more.

Scully, I've read many reports of paedophile cases perpetrated by JW's. I don't recall a single one perpetrated by a JW while on the door-to-door ministry upon children of the household. I simply don't recall a single one. Perhaps you can remember one?
Since the target audience of the article are people who live in households that are reached by the JW's in their door-to-door ministry, it would be a good idea to express in what way the JWs are more dangerous than the milkman, the postman, the neighbor next door or the pizza delivery guy who also knock on the door.
make them aware that some JWs may be knocking on their doors with ulterior motives
Well, that may well be a commendable objective and the article may well be on target with it. But it's the wording of the title, remember. The householder, not having any reasonable means to determine the ulterior motives of the Witness, will feel free to pass a judgement upon every single one of them as "those paedophiles knocking".
I stand by what I've said: The title of the article is hate-inducing.

With all due respect to your articles, the title of this one makes me cringe, because its a blanket statement that's both unfair and offensive to all those that are JW's and have nothing to do with paedophily. If you were a gipsy and I wrote an article titled "Gipsy Paedophiles", would you not feel offended by the blanket statement, even if the content was discussing only a few cases among the ethnical group? Would you not read an intent to stain the entire etnicity ?
Regardless of the merit of the contents in the article, the title is dangerously hate-inducing.

church officials hushed up a child sex scandal in their ranks and refused to co-operate with police.. .
jehovah witness ministerial servant gordon leighton admitted sexually abusing a child when he was confronted by his church elders, a court heard.. but during the official police investigation, the 53-year-old who made headlines in the 1990s when wife yvonne, 28, died after refusing a blood transfusion after childbirth on religious grounds denied any illegal wrongdoing.. and when detectives asked elders simon preyser, harry logan and david scott to make statements about the confession, all three refused and said what they had heard was confidential.. for three years, the elders refused to co-operate with the criminal investigation and kept up that stance when the case was brought before newcastle crown court after the victim made a complaint to police.. each was issued with a witness summons which they fought to overturn before being ordered to testify by judge penny moreland citing public interest.. their barrister richard daniels said the men had a duty to god not to breach confidence.. he added: privileged communication between members of the congregation and ministers is an absolute right and duty and there is no power in law to breach such a confidence.. judge moreland said: it is apparent that the three elders who were present when this conversation took place are in possession of relevant evidence as to a point which is of real significance in this case.. they claim the right of confidentiality, they claim that what they heard said by the defendant during the course of that meeting ought to be subject to privilege, as ministers of religion.. judge moreland refused to withdraw the summonses and said: public interest is clearly in favour of this evidence being given.. what was said by the defendant on that occasion is of great significance in the trial.. despite the judges ruling, the men still refused to make statements to police until just hours before they were called before the jury.. leighton, who has since been expelled from the church at lambton kingdom hall in washington, denied two charges of indecency with a child and seven of indecent assault.. he was yesterday found guilty of two charges of indecency with a child and six of indecent assault.
he was found not guilty of one indecent assault charge, on the direction of the judge.. he was remanded in custody until he is sentenced next month but warned he is facing a lengthy spell behind bars.. prosecutor katherine dunn told the court the victim, who is now an adult, broke her silence in 2009.. the court heard how at a special church meeting, leighton admitted sexual abuse and made excuses for his behaviour.. miss dunn said: the elders conducted their own investigation.
The R & F Witnesses are instructed to, when they become aware of some serious transgression from another Witness, they should confront the alleged sinner with whatever evidence thay got (not hearsay), and give the other a reasonably short deadline to take the initiative to confess to the Elders, or else they will report to the Elders themselves.
If the "privilege of confession" is alleged by the Elders, why don't they take their own advise and act accordingly? They could tell the sinner-criminal that they expect him to turn himself to the authorities within xx days, or else, they will take the initiative to report such person to the judicial authorities. In this way, they would be respecting the "privilege of confession" while still abiding with the law.

think of all the anxious souls who barely escaped the end of 6,000 years of human existence in 1975. they were saved!.
saved from.... what?.
who were trying to save them?
Terry's premise is quite simple: compare the progression of the world population and the progression of the growth of the JW's. If the progression of the world population is faster than that of the Witnesses, then it is mathematically impossible that the Witnesses can reach out (based on 10 hours a month, average) every person in the world.
However ....
One can argue that the jw.org Website is a new tool that can reach vast amounts of people simultaneously with the message. And this alone disrupts the logic of your reasoning, Terry.

the society has hit the jackpot with selling most of it's property in brooklyn, and some other prominent buildings outside the us.. so, they got an estimated $ 700 million dollar income and getting even more when they sell 124 columbia heights etc.. in total they will have then some $1 billion dollar on their bank and investment funds.. in the past questions about audit and giving account by the society about their finance, were answered "the brothers trust each other".. but now, the society has become a mayor financial player, this answer about trust is not enough anymore.. i asked my father about this and he told me "the money get a tag "world wide work and will be used only for good things, don't worry, trust them".. i told him that i don't trust them, because they act like a financial institute.
he told me "we are getting big, it's all part of fore told the publishing work".. so, speaking with jw family and friends is allways a dead end... :(.
.
I don't think it will be spent ... besides the consolidation and the building of the new HQ in Warwick, basically I think they will allocate the money to investment funds and sit on it. I presume they expect a shortage in donations to follow suit soon, and they think it's better to be prepared.

i have been to frejus, cannes, st. tropez and san rafael (maybe the most beautiful city in the world - no wait that would be cannes, or san tropez).
i traveled the coastal highway one day from s. of hyeres to monte carlo.
breathtaking.
Maybe if you travel the coast of Amalfi (southern Italy, near Napopli), then pay a visit to Positano, you might change your mind.
And yes, I've travelled that same road you mentioned. Cannes is truly beautiful.

Cofty, let me go point by point:
The inspiration of the protestant canon of the bible. While the catholics believe that the Bible is "inerrant" or totally free from error; or the protestants believe the Bible is "infallible", that is, incapable of containing errors, I simply say that the Bible is "reliable". Big difference.
The importance of using the divine name. The Bible say it's important, and I merely second what the Bible says. I agree that Jehovah isn't the best rendering of that name.
The creation of pre-human Jesus. It's in the Bible. How could i deny it?
Jesus' "unblemished" life as ransom sacrifice. (words straight from the pen of Rutherford) As far as I know Rutherford didn't coin the term "unblemished", so i don't know what you're talking about. The King James Bible Translation, from 1604, uses the expression "without blemish" in 1 Peter 1:19. I wrote extensively that the term "redemption" is much better than "ransom". See my article "The Divine Purpose Of Redemption".
Need to "exercise faith" in the ransom (pure WT terminology) You and Laika are correct about that one. I should have replaced that expression for the more accurate "put faith on". I corrected that.
Salvation through faith + works. Salvation comes through grace. Faith is essential to attain grace. Works are evidence of faith. What's your problem with that?
Holy spirit is an impersonal force. Correct.
Paradise earth. Paradise earth, yes. But that doesn't mean that each human will individually live forever on a paradise on earth. "Salvation" doesn't mean "to live forever on a paradise on earth". Again, you didn't read what I wrote.
Kingdom of god = an administration to return humans to "an approved condition". That's just ONE among SEVEN things that the Kingdom of God is. Again, you didn't read enough.
Vindication of god's universal sovereignty. Yes, but! Although i don't believe that's the main theme of the Bible nor the ultimate objective of the Kingdom of God. In its aspect of being an "Administration", yes, it's one of its objectives. But, as it turns out, the Kingdom of God is way more than that.
Soul sleep. I don't know what you mean by that. That death is like a sleep?
Political neutrality. Yes, but I also wrote that neutrality "shouldn't hold back from helping in improving the life of others through good deeds.", which means that a Christian is free to have a participation in social and community actions, instead of simply sit and wait for the "new system" to correct everything.
This is 99.9% Watchtower theology is it not? You be the judge.
