Elders' Gems of Wisdom
by stephenw20 inmy dad asked the co about this one.
mat 27:52-53. and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, .
and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

riz-talking to you earlier, my all time fav. has to be when an elder told me that if, IF mind you, i made it into the new system of things, it was a FACT that my tatoos would be taken off my body by jehovah. i showed him the scriptural content of the law on tatoos(mosaic) and the other elders told him i had a point-didn't phase him, though.
p.s. riz is the funniest person i have ever met:)-nate

Jehovah's Name!
by VeniceIT inone thing that really bothers me is how jw's think jehovah will protect them from any scandle because they have his name and he won't want reproach brought upon it.. well, if they read their bibles and looked in the old testament(yes i'm starting to lose the jwisms such as hebrew scriptures), how many times were the isrealites (who he had chosen, and who everyone knew where his people), punished.
he didn't hide what they were doing or pass over it to protect his 'name'.
why do the jw's have this dissolution.

RE: Ozzie's post on "Restrictions"
by had_enough ini have a question about restrictions on df'd persons wanting to come back to the org.. i finally joined here on mar 26, after reading posts for about a month, with telling my story first.
what moved me to join in was reading ozzie's post on mar.23(i think), about "restrictions" regarding reproofs, probations, and df'ing.
i appreciated his comments and was so glad when he brought the subject up.

humble-"Sometimes we don't understand at the moment why things are handled the
way they are, but let's keep in mind that jehovah is in control at all
times."since this appears to be the basis for your argument, is it your assumption that jehovah is in direct control of the WT? if it is, i can't agree w/ you there.

did this sound like bragging to anyone else? ie; "invitation only", thought we were gilead students or C.O., got to stay in a suite, russel married great grandparents, autographed bible.
maybe i'm just looking at it from a bitter viewpoint. thanks for the post, LDH.

humble-thanks for responding. i don't agree that the "efforts" required are a good standard for judgement, but that is just my opinion, and i respect your right to your's. i also realize my question was off topic.
"Elders will not disfellowship me for my views. Now if I stubbornly start
spreading my ideas trying to turn the flock against Jehovah's appointed
servants, then there is a problem. If one is humble and is sincere then
there is no problem there."still not attacking, and i know this wasn't addressed to me, but i think IMO that the WT history shows that you don't have to spread your ideas around to be disfellowshipped. it only takes mentioning something in confidence to a close friend and having that come to the attention of the elders to be df'ed, in some cases. if this discussion is not something you want to get into with me, i understand, and i'm not being sarcastic.-nate, after all i am butting in:)

humble-not attacking here, but how does any man or woman have the ability or right to decide when another's conscience is "clean"? from my reading, this is not a biblical notion. if you are refering at all to hebrews 5:13-16, this doesn't mention one's personal conscience at all. what if a person's conscience is already clean?just asking. respectfully-nate

A polite request to LURKERNOMORE
by Focus inin the thread "wt leader admits being demon possessed" http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=3720&site=3 and in every other thread in which tallyman has participated that i have read, you have ruthlessly and remorselessly attacked him.. don't you think he has been punished enough?
the courts had all the information, the prosecution worked very hard - and a jury of his peers found him not guilty of any offense.
and they had far more information than you do.. because you are weasel-wording, the smear you are attempting and perpetrating just might fall short of actionable libel - i do not know.

don't have much to say, others have covered it well. just wanted to add another voice in support of tallyman. tallyman-i hope you don't let lurker get to you, but i can see how it would be quite troubling.-nate

We'll have a gay ol' time
by riz ini recall having a conversation with a friend about homosexuality not too long ago.
he put a new spin on the subject that i had never thought of before.
he said his opinion was that the bible condemns homosexuality for the simple fact that the act of sex between same-sex partners does not produce children.

nice post, riz. to me, getting along without judgement isn't rocket science. well, not anymore, at least. i know what you mean about growing up being taught one thing and realizing how silly it is. my views used to be much more narrow. if i still thought that way, i wouldn't be able to accept a lot of cool people.
