'st john's apocalyptic vision of the end of the world in the book of revelation is one of the bible's best known passages, inspiring morbid fascination in many cultures.

i remember that happening a few times.
one sunday morning my son went up to a young elder and said "hey, i thought you were giving the talk today in xxx xxxxx.
the look of horror on the elder's face!
It's amazing what I have forgotten about my days as the PO. I can't remember how I arranged for the different speakers to come to our KH. I think maybe it was at a circuit assembly that we would get together and arrange for the different congregations to swap speakers. I remember going to just about all the congregations in our circuit and giving Sunday talks. Some were 70 miles away.

Yep, the WT is right. The end is near. The souther religious nuts here in the US will bring it on.

i called the properties department today to inquire about the jay st property and the zoning change that took place recently.
apparently, according to the sister on the phone, the gb gave the go ahead to seek the re-zoning to special mixed use district (mx-2), so that they could expand if needed.. when i asked, "hey i thought brooklyn was getting smaller?
" she laughed and said that they could sell it now for "a lot more" than under the old zoning.
Has anyone ever seen the financial books of the WT society? I would like to know the expenses versus the intake.

I was reading somewhere that the reaction to a BR bite depends on your sensitivity to the poison. It kills some people and only acts like a mosquito bite to others. With some people it kills a lot of body tissue and makes a bad hole that looks awful. Maybe your reaction isn't too bad, I hope so anyway.

way back one man was the presiding overseer of the congregation.
then in the ' 70s they started the arrangement of the body of elders w/one being the po.
during this time they started w/the practice of rotating the entire boe so that each member would be serving in a different capacity - theocratic ministry school overseer, field overseer, literature overseer, secretary, etc.
I was the PO, Ministry School servant, WT study conductor, congregation book study conductor all at the same time as well as assigning all the parts on the Service Meeting. That was in 1971. I quit and moved away to DC. I never went back to the JW life, although I moved back to the old congregation and attended a few meetings before a year went by.
I don't remember the rotation arrangement, I guess I left before it started.

i stopped going to meetings at age 19 or 20. my brother had been df'd.
my sister and her new bethalite husband had left the organization labeled as apostates, and my single mom followed suit.
i was pretty much raised by the congregation, though i lived with my isolated mother.
I am 70 and half my life was spent as a JW. I have so many good memories of my life when I was a JW that I just remember the good parts which had little to do with the religion. I just faded and had no real rejection from my family. My circumstances were so different from many here that I don't qualify to give advice to many of you. It was just the last few years in that finally got to me so that I quit. I can hardly remember the bad since I hardly ever think of it.

how much truth within the organization?
often times, having spent so many years as being one of jehovah's.
witnesses, the question crosses my mind, "how much truth was.
Since religion is a product of our imagination, or usually someone else's, how can we determine what is true? If we try to use the bible it is so vague on so many ideas, who knows what it really is saying? (Try Revelation as an example)
I guess the WT Society is about as "true" as any religious group.
You are born, live an undetermined amount of time and die. That is about as true as you can get. What happens during your life is a combination of your actions and whatever else comes your way.

i've seen that question pop up here on jwd in one form or another over the past few years and it's always had me mentally juggling whether to indulge in chrisitanity (the bible), churches, agnosticism, new age crapola or atheism or some other form of religious hype.......before today.. for some reason, i've chosen just today to believe in myself.
i don't hide from myself i know what i'm capable of and how to do all of which i am capable and am willing to do.
i'm also dependable and if i don't have an answer for a question that i need the answer to, i do some research and find out the facts.
I believe in death. I see it all the time and I don't know of one single person who has escaped it. It's the only thing I'm absolutely sure of. Until then I'm just rambling through life and whatever it brings along.

mark 4 1-20. .
1 and he again started teaching beside the sea.
and a very great crowd gathered near him, so that he went aboard a boat and sat out on the sea, but all the crowd beside the sea were on the shore.
What was the point of preaching to the people if they couldn't understand what he was saying?
To YOU the sacred secret of the kingdom of God has been given, but to those outside all things occur in illustrations, 12 in order that, though looking, they may look and yet not see, and, though hearing, they may hear and yet not get the sense of it, nor ever turn back and forgiveness be given them.”
I thought the bible said all we had to do is believe in Christ and we would be saved. He seemed to be picking the ones he wanted to forgive.
Does the bible make sense to you?
