What is happening is that they are quickly inserting a wedge to prevent the awfulness of the fact that they have been lied to and wasted their life kicking in. They self-justify, without any real logic that is was the best life. What else can they say?. Do they stop and think and say, Yeah, its wrong, I'm so bloody angry I think I will explode. No. They quickly cover it and prevent themselves thinking by pacifying themselves with warm, comfy thoughts - mmmmmmmmmmm meetings, mmmmmmm field ministry mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm watchtower study. Lovely and warm, la la la la. It is total self delusion. My sister said that even if it was proved not to be the truth she would still believe it. How screwy is that, totally self-delusional.

Dorktular, it is quite possible that your wife transmogrifies into mine. And because women are better at arguing than men they tie you up in verbal knots until you confess without meaning to. And you are right, they ask your opinion and you give it then they look at you and give a silent but visual durrrh and say "Terracotta?" (my wife does). If you live in the UK you might have seen the ad where the woman is telling her husband (I assume) about him having to support her whilst going to college or some such thing but he is more interested in his burger (the point of the ad) and she says "so what do you think?" He, not having listened realises that an answer is required and say's, grasping at straws, "er Terracotta?". I wager that if you tried to explain to your wife why you did not fix her watch she will shoot you down in flames and say but you find time to go down the pub or surf the internet but you couldn't do a small and simple job that I asked you, it's just me me me...........glaze

I know what you mean finally, you get those bozo's who suddenly stop. Then those that swing the trolley out and block the whole aisle. Then a bunch of idiots meet and have a long conversation blocking four aisles and you want to say "why dont you get some chairs sit down and really P*** people off". Then they move all the stuff about so you can't find it, so you ask a spotty nerd where it is and they stare blankly and say "er I fink it down there" and point in an arc. When you do find where it has been moved to the shelf is bare because the cretins have not got any stock and you say "Why is there no stock" and they say because there is no demand. And another thing, you go and get a buy-one-get-one-free and there is only one left. You only want two batteries but have to buy ten. Why do they sell mugs in packs of six but hooks in packs of five. Why do they sell eating apples in slices in a bag? Why Why WHY!!!!!!blubber, foam.

I hate shopping too. Men know how to shop though. They know what they want, go to the right shop, buy, come out and go home. Job done. Women like to go round dozens of shops. That is why there are so many shoe shops, clothes shops, accessory shops and the like. Go into monsoon or mothercare, the male goods are all on one rack. The female stuff fills the shop. Have you tried going round PC World with your wife, she glazes over after 2 seconds and says "have you found what you want yet - sigh" and that is just one shop. Then she trolls you round all her shops as pennace for making her go into PC World and asks you questions like "Do you think this will go in the kitchen, or will this blue one be better?" What is it, a tea towel. So you say the blue one and she says so you don't like the yellow one then and you say the yellow one is fine too, so she says well don't you think the yellow one will go better, or what about this orange one and you say well have what one you want and she says you could show some interest and you say I did you asked and I said blue and she says you only said that to shut me up and you say no I didn't I like blue you know I like blue, you asked me yellow or blue and I chose blue now you ask me about orange. Then she says let's have a look in Rosby's and see if they have anything else and maybe CH Fabrics and I saw some in Laura Ashly the other day - and we still have not bought a thing and I want to die because the day stretches out before you and the high street is so long and you can't just go to Rosby's because there are shops on the way that she wants to go in and I start to foam at the mouth.

Do they still go ahead and disfellowship if you threaten them back?
by ThomasCovenant insupposing local elders were to approach me with a view to a 'judicial committee' and subsequent disfellowshipping.
law # 1 i believe everything the 'society' says.. law # 2 i also believe everything the 'society' has ever said in the past even when it contradicts law # 1.. law # 3 i also believe everything the 'society' will ever say in the future even when it contradicts law # 1 and law # 2. law # 0 (zeroth law) i believe law # 1, 2 and 3 all at the same time.. please don't disfellowship me.. .
if you carry out this action i will take it upon myself to make the local jw's life uncomfortable.

Thomas, I understand where you are coming from but would advise against it. For one it would just increase the 'bunker' mentality of the local JW's. They would view it as an attack from satan and it would just reinforce their mindset as being persecuted for righteousness sake. It will make no impact at all on them in the way that you might hope. Secondly, as has been mentioned, the leaflets would be binned. Anyone who did read it; what do you imagine they would do? In today's celeb obsessed material society would anyone really care about one 'dis-gruntled' (as it would come across) ex-JW?. Much better to do as has been mentioned and find inner peace and move on. You will be the winner because you will be free. As it is written - you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. Don't imprison yourself after finding freedom.

Pioneer Heavy at the Top
by OnTheWayOut invirtually everybody above the rank of elder is/was a pioneer.. you can't become a c.o.
without pioneering.. bethelites (even sisters who marry in) were pioneers.. the administration is full of pioneers that worked their way up.. missionaries and senior overseers at all branches were.

The borg is like any psychopathic corporation. The bods at the top look down and promot those who are like themselves, that way they perpetuate the status quo. Anyone who might rock the boat does not get promoted. Those at the bottom look up and want to be at the top so they ape the bod above them and them above them and so on. it is a bit like an escalator. You can see it best in the local congo, anyone who might upset the boat - i.e. might actually want to be an elder for the eight reason won't get appointed because you can't have someone saying 'but the scriptures say this brother'. If one soes slip in they will be marginalised. In coeporations it would be the 'sideways move'. It is all a power game. Anyone who has been on the Bethel HQ tours cannot fail to have seen the clas system. All brothers are equal - my arse.

Prayer a Waste of Time?
by WTWizard inhow often do you hear about prayer at the meeting that, if you should pray that if jehovah wills that he should do something?
to me, this is a total waste of time to pray if that condition applies.
you see, if jehovah willed something, why would he need to wait for you to ask him for it?

It seems to me that the world is a crappy place and getting worse. How many people have prayed for a better world over the last zillion years. Remember Asaph, he said that he was sick of seeing the wicked get away with it and live a life of ease. He said that Jehovah had put them on shaky ground and they would get their comeuppance. Yeah right. Asaphs wicked "ones" carried on living it up being wicked an' all and they died. Asaph died - poor and miserable most likley. The wicked still live a life of ease and have fatness and bulging of the eyes and generally having a good time of it. Us honest persons work our butts off and hope that the members of the wicked fraternity won't break into our houses and nick our hard earned stuff. What I want to know is when these wicked will be getting their comeuppance and how will we know. Prayers don't seem to work.

The problem with Britian today is that we - the people - are being brain-bombed, by which I mean that masses of trivia replaces real thought. Thinking is not done today. I see more and more people walking down the road with glazed eyes listening to their MP3 players, texting, watching videos or speaking on the mobile phone. Take your music with you coos the adverts. Why? Holds 15,000 songs screams another. See TV and movies on your mobile. 500 texts FREE per month. That is just when you are out. We are convinced that we need to have all this with us all the time. In the home there is the succession of mindless reality shows - Big brother, X factor and god knows what else. Digital TV, Sky get over 200 channels. The papers carry through the shows into their pages. Absolutly mind numbing drivel about contestants or other 'celebrities' festoon the pages and encourages us to watch tonight on C4. Our minds are diverted away from any meaningful thought and whislt they are away governments sneak in what they want. TV channels, supermarkets and other such business tell us that they are giving us 'what the customer wants'. We believe it. Give us more of what we want, we say. Yet no-one has actually asked me what I want - nor anyone I know come to that. Anyone who dissents or questions in anyway is a party-pooper or luddite or some add-what-you-will-aphobe. I reckon that all the corruption and scandals that become apparent within governments are just a show. Sure they are real, but what happens? We say 'damn politians, I'm not voting for any of them' Which is exactly what I think they want. They want to effect apathy and hopelessness so people 'just can't be bothered'. And they do a good job about it. There are not enough people who really care to make a difference which is why the Tesco-ification of Britain has been so sucessful. There are too many vested interests for this juggernaught to change course.
