From what I've read the original intent was so everyone could have the opportunity of knowing what they had to do to please God. It didn't matter whwere you came from if you kept or keep those laws He is more than willing to have you as part of his people. An example would be the Egyptians that left Egypt with them. They are never mentioned as a seperate people after that as far as I'm aware. So they must have followed Gods laws from that point on.

Just curiuos
by newsheep inhas anyone here looked into or became part of the messianic movement?
the conections they make between the old and new testaments are really interesting.
the changes supposedly made by christ are shown to be clarifications of what the original intent of the law was and in no way were they to be changed.

Why would we assume that Christ did just that?

To me though by adding the word covenant it is changeing the topic of the verses.
If it's about the priesthood leave it at that, why make it about the covenant? they are not interchangeble.
The Law is perfect, the priesthood was not. Which needed change?

Jesus belongings
by label licker inwhat are the belongings that jesus comes back for.
apparently, we were told by one of the elders at bethel who was at the annual meeting in october that the organisation was still not too sure on what those belongings are and that it would be public down the road in their publications.
they figure it would come out in the april watchtower.

Yes, I was told it could possibly be the "other" angels in heaven that they would be in charge of, that nothing was written down yet to confirm it. The brother that told us wasn't quite sure how to take it or explain it. It's one of those just wait and see. Maybe watchtower will try and get people to focus on something in the heavens so that they are not focused on the crap that they have been served here on earth. Who knows, who cares.

A well thought out exit. Looking forward to hearing more from you both.
It's great when a couple can leave together.

Keep testing the scriptures to prove this is not the "truth"
by label licker inwhat's your favorite scripture to prove that watchtower's doctrines were false.
mine was romans 6:7 where they say it's our death that's aquitted us of our sins when it was jesus death that aquitted us of our sins.
our death doesn't have that ability to do that.

The explanation I heard on this topic is that it comes down to translation.
In the NWT the (his) is in brakets showing it was not in the original texts and is not least not in most bibles.
Taking that (his) out would make this a release from sin in general and not the sin of the individual. At death the individual is no longer under the influence of his sinful surroundings.
A closer look at the verses at the beginning of this chapter show that the topic being discussed is baptism and the parallel is with the emersion in water and the changes those being baptised would be make.

Not sure on the medical side of this but I am aware of the JW reasoning on it. When the NT talks about the laws God gave then they are talking only about what can be found in the OT. There when Noah is told not to eat the blood only animal blood is mentioned. Everything else is just is just added and we know what happens when people add things according to thier own understandings.

New Member...
by sosoconfused inhello everyone, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.. i am a mid 30's just stepped aside elder, who just couldn't handle it anymore.. i am a 3rd generation born-in and former pioneer and bethelite.
it has been a log somewhat confusing ride for me, but i am finally settling in to realizing that i need to really look at what me and my family are doing.. .
its funny though what really got me here... it wasn't the 40 year old men telling me they were looking at boobies on the computer and hoping not to get in trouble, it wasn't the watching young people bail left and right, it wasn't the ever changing new light etc... but a simple thought.. .

You made some excellent points. Now think back on all the other questions that you may have had and pushed aside over the years.
Many of those answers are right here.
Welcome

Welcome NDmom73:) We just joined yesterday and have never had so many visitors come into our home (through this board) then being in the org for nine years and feeling soooo alone. The socalled friends would say we live too far to come out except if they wanted to kill some time in the ministry or if you offered them a meal. We were only twenty minutes away driving time. I applaud those that can give their story but for me, I am too ashamed and embarrassed to talk about it. In one way am thankful to have been treated the way we did for it got us to where we are today and that's taking in the REAL KNOWLEDGE of the bible. Some of you make some really good points and it puts us back into researching the real truth about god's word. For that we are grateful. Will we ever go back to the org? NEVER! Once bitten, twice shy.
We are having the same problems as you trying to get on this board. It excepted new sheep but not bootlicker so I thought I would try again under labellicker and nothing has happened. Point is don't give up trying to sign up to all you lurkers out there for it will happen. You wil get on and it's awesome. I wonder how many others have tried to get on and have given up?
