JH, if the topics interest you even in the slightest, you ought to be able to read it in about two days! (only half joking)

Ray Franz.....LIAR?
by integ inone of my witness family members agreed to take a look at crisis of conscience, and after.
perusing the first couple of chapters, said that she thought it could be all made up.
agreed that the documents presented could be legitimate, but as far as franz's personal.

Interestingly typical. My mom read some of CoC but wanted to know what right Ray Franz had to many of the letters etc. included in the book. That I don't have an answer to but would like to know. But as already pointed out, if he had 'taken them illegally' he would surely have been dragged into court by the WT.

What Is The Most Popular Belief That Suckers People To Become JW's?
by minimus inwhat do you think it is?

The everlasting life hook has to be the top draw. That of course is only attractive with the growing young again - unless you happen to be younger than 30 already then in that case you grow old - to 30. You would think that in a 'perfect world' you'd not only be able to pick your age but change it at will. :)
If you are 5 or 6 then they hook you with the desire to play with the lions and tigers.
Housing: I too remember jw's talking about how they'd own all the nice new homes in the richest areas of town(s). Then one day my mother said something that took me aback and still gives me the chills. She mentioned how in all likelyhood, the armageddon survivors would live in ASSIGNED housing! Like the NY WT housing of this old system! That's paradise???? Scenes of '1984' flash through my mind.
..knew I forgot something.
I was also told that sex would be a thing of the past too. Jehovah would just remove that, uh, desire. lol Again, that's paradise??? -

I'm Thinking of Doing Something Drastic
by Bendrr inok, here's the deal.. way back when i got df'd i kinda went wild.
started riding motorcycles, wore rock group t-shirts, got 3 earrings in my left ear, got a tattoo, and grew my hair long.
i had to cut it once back in '93 because my employer said to.

Could try uh, rearranging it some. Tail in the front. Only it wouldn't technically be a tail then would it. More like a tassle. hehe

I just came out of a few days feeling extremely low and as if I were 'losing it'. That hadn't happened in a LONG time (used to be constant) and I hope it was just a fleeting thing. Not a fun place to be. Anyway, last night I was talking to a relative and she is really depressed right now. We had a long talk and I came out of it feeling better about myself. So maybe if you find someone to talk to who's worse off....(j/k...kinda).

A Common Mistake
by DJ inas a jw, i was taught the wrong idea of what the trinity is.
the concept of the trinity does not teach that the father is the son.
-
DFWnonJW
ok, think tv commercial here...
"Three, Three, Three God's in one!"
Actually the trinity topic is how my mom got sucked in. Witness lady said my mom "looked like a sheep" and asked her what religion she was.
"Baptist" says she, all proud.
"OHHHH, You believe in a three headed god!" says jw lady.
"I most certainly do not!" says me mum.
"Sure you do. Don't you sing 'god in three person's, blessed trinity'?"
GASP....goes mumthe rest, as they say, is misery.

Witnessism's........
by integ ini know some have posted similar topics like this, but i thought it might be kind of fun (for the new ones that are coming here in droves) and others, to give some examples of catch phrases etc, that are unique to the jw world.
here's a few to start:.... "muster up boldness", "sound down into our hearts","satan's crafty acts", "paradisaic", "young ones"," discernment".....these are just a few of the more irritating.
add yours if you'd like.. integ.

Why do most brothers work in the cleaning business?
by JH inwhen i joined the jw's many years ago, i couldn't get over how many were working in the cleaning business.
i know this permitted them to go to the meetings, out in the field service, and work without any conflict.. where did this trend start?
is it like this world wide?
-
DFWnonJW
As previously mentioned, I always heard that the cleaning business, building trades etc. were the type of jobs that would prepare jw's for the after party cleanup when god cleaned house (yes, any day now...wolf!, wolf!). Pretty sad really. Nothing wrong with any of those businesses but to feel almost obligated to do that work isn't a good thing.

We helped a boy in a car crash last night...made us think about things
by LyinEyes inlast night we were coming home from a night of dancing, and came upon a really bad wreck, a young man, had flipped his jeep, several times and his car was on fire.
we must have just missed the wreck, because there were two cars there that saw it and they didnt know what to do......i told my hubby as we stopped to see if anyone had called 911 yet, and asked him to ask if anyone needed first aid.
i am not in the medical field but i know enough first aid to help until the emt arrived.

Three cheers for Lyin' Eye's and hubby!!
I got the impression from reading your account that you were the epitome of coolheadedness. I'd like to think I'd react the same way but so far haven't been tested :) Just wanted to say way to go and I hope the young man is going to be ok. I bet he'd like to thank you too.
I remember hearing stories at the hall like the ones you mentioned. Always geared to make you feel guilty for missing any meeting but I remember hearing how a bomb went off in a KH one time and a sister was killed. I have ever since been of the opinion "What if she HAD missed that meeting? She'd STILL be alive!" Turnabout being fair play and all. :)
At one of the very last meetings I went to here in Irving, we were told of a jw family at a convention (in KC i think). There were several of the jw kids playing in/around the pool after (hours if I recall) and one of them unfortunately drowned. You'd think there would have been some real compassion shown for the families loss but nope. The kids were not supposed to be there and though it was "sad that a child died", the point was driven home on how the media got the story and what negative light it shown on "The Organisation". I sat there shaking my head thouroughly sickened at what I heard. Looking around there were lot's of people nodding in agreement and that was it. It was over for me.
