Irondork the problem is....you dare ask a question?
I think the answer to this & every question is "wait on Jehovah!"
hahaha
at a convention in washington, d.c., 1935, j.f.
rutherford announced the identity of the great multitude, of revelation 7:9 as being the other sheep of john 10:16.. i dont remember if i heard it in a talk or read it in a piece of literature, but i remember some commentary about how the governing body of that time finally came to this understanding.
they had been struggling with the identity of this great crowd, even speculating that this group would occupy a lower station in heaven than those who would serve with christ as kings and priests.

i recently had a very long conversation with my mother, about what jehovah's witnesses teach and believe now.
while i could gleam ideas and thoughts, that kind of worked with the religion i once called home.
more often then not, i had to come to a extreme conclusion.
" A lot of people that became JW's after they were adults don't appreciate the deep disappointment of those who were raised to believe that they and their parents and grandparents weren't going to die. At the deepest part of our brain is a paradigm of profound sadness that is worse than a hell where you could be tortured in the presence of other people who had the satisfaction of knowing they chose their path. Dante couldn't have thought up anything like it" scotoma
Holy cow scotoma ..... ....you nailed it absolutely, as a born in..
The profound sadness, it never goes away.
I was told i wasnt going to be here, every day of my childhood, and yet here i am at 40, still here.
Even worse, I hated being a JW, but, that didn't stop me from believing it. I didn't feel happy being a JW, but I saw no way out, as the world was about to end.
Our lives & potential were just thrown away for nothing, and no responsibility has ever been acknowledged. I know I'm luckier than most in that I married a "worldly" man so I'm financially ok (unlike a lot of my peers).
But, I feel like my life was trashed. How anyone my age is in the religion is beyond me. And, if you are, how are you not angry?
Oz, you summed it up perfectly, the JWs wont change.
They already offer nothing to youth.
The Internet exposes their past lies to anyone who cares to look.
it will be a slow & steady decline - at least in developed countries.
once we found out we were all witnesses, we all hugged.
now we just had to see if our kingdom hall was still standing.
when we came to the hall we had such a huge shock.. there were so many people there.
The writer is Australian but he writes "American" because he's spent a lifetime immersed in the WTBTS literature.
American is the language of his dreams/fantasies of the future.
How sad this is.
It's like teen fiction.
But, at least for teens the things they dream about will in all likelihood happen.
It must have a sad feel in these old congregations. I was in pyrmont (Sydney) this arvo & I passed some older witnesses out door to door.
It just made me feel so sad.
I still call it "the truth" too, even though its not, just conditioning I suppose.
2 broke girls is the worst show on tv.
the acting is terrible.. what show do you avoid??.
.
I used to think Southpark was the worst show, based largely on the annoying opening song.
Finally I was forced to watch it, and now I think it's one of the best shows on TV.
The worst are all those talent/reality shows so FAKE. Also the Kardashians.
I hate the dishonesty of those shows, there is nothing REAL about it. It's fake, to sell stuff, that's all.
the best show, PORTLANDIA is hilarious
"religion is a snare and a racket".
...ironically, today the wt is a bonafied religion..
Guard against the sin of independent thinking........used a lot on me as a kid in the 80s whenever I had a thought that wasn't from the watchtower.
for those of you who have travelled the world over, which country or city will you consider the place to live in the world.
Ballistic, good job market & more expensive?
I see what you are asking. What I mean is that, the job market is strong, and there seems to be less volatility here than in other parts of the world. So, you can be relatively sure of keeping your job in most cases. Salaries are fair (in the corporate area ). We also have more of a safety net with unemployment benefits.
Things are more expensive, like housing & food. But, our housing market is stable - not the big swings in value that could destroy you personally like in the US. Balancing out higher costs are the abundance of free things about Sydney, like the weather, beaches, parks, sports etc etc.
Our health system also means that you need never worry about being able to "afford" to be sick. This is a huge advantage. It's not a free system, we pay for it in taxes & a Medicare levy on gross taxable income.
But, if you need to go to hospital, the most expensive thing about it is often the parking!
It seems to me that our country (and others like NZ & Canada) provide more buffers from the worst extremes of what can happen to you, whilst still providing plenty of "freedom" , that's why I think we (au, NZ & can) provide the best places to live!

Sydney is right up there, it's only negatives are no snow & so far away from everywhere.........oh and expensive & slow Internet compared to the rest of the world.
Sydney is so beautiful that it can literally take your breath away, it's amazing. I've lived here most of my life & I still am in awe.
Weather, food, beaches are all excellent. Good job market. Good health care. Clean. Friendly. Most of the things that make Sydney great are free, so, whilst some things are expensive, you can enjoy living here without much money at all.
how do you like it?
i read some reviews, some of them said it stopped working after it has been washed.
i do not know if the reviews are planted negatively.
I keep a box of medi wipes by the keyboard of the home computer, to wipe down the keyboard occasionally. Also some antibacterial hand gel next to the computer for hands.
I'm more concerned about my iPad screen, I'm not sure how to clean it. Or the iPhone. I'm sure they are full of germs.
