Really interesting, recognize so much JW thinking clarified in this. It's huge to realize that what you were brought up to believe was wrong, now I'm open to being wrong about almost anything......it's very "freeing" not to have to be right all the time.

Kathryn Schulz: On being wrong
by thecrushed ini've never heard a more appropriate ted talk for jw's to take to heart than this one.
"most of us will do anything to avoid being wrong.
but what if we're wrong about that?

Hey bavman, I'm so sorry to read your story. Remember, 18 is so young, lots will change for him.
You have a really important role in your sons life, he has someone he can always rely on, that is not a JW. You will always be there as an option for him, you offer unconditional love. One day he will understand how this differs from JW "love". He also has a sister, so always another reason to remain in contact. Love & good luck to you

Welcome Awakening, leaving TT is a slow, slow process. TT can take over your whole lives, you need to take yours and your wife's life back, bit by bit.
Sleep in, make some non JW friends, volunteer somewhere, play a sport, read good literature. Every little thing that you do that is positive and life affirming lessens the hold that the TT has on you. Create distance!
I know that I was fading for a long time, but my new workplace at the time had some fabulous people, it really had a powerful impact on me, how could all these people be going to die at Armageddon? I love music, how could that be wrong?
With distance it becomes easier to see clearly what you don't believe, for instance, I never hated homosexuality like you were supposed to. I couldn't care less what 2 consenting adults want to get up to. Once I was away from the daily grind of being a JW that became crystal clear to me!
In summary it was love for the world around me that got me out of TT.
only later (like now!) am I looking into the many ways in which they are wrong, it's been an eye opener for me, for sure. Good Luck to you!

Survey: Who here is an atheist? Who here still believes in God?
by Christ Alone ini just wanted to take a survey.
let's not let this get into the same old same old debate of atheism vs belief.
just respond with "atheist" or "believer" or "maybe god exists".

I used to be JW, then even though out, I still believed. Slowly became agnostic, now 100% atheist.
It feels so right, after a life of trying to force myself to believe what I could not.
I'm reading atheist literature for the first time, Hitchens, Dawkins et al, it's blown me away. How simple, and easy it is to read, after an early life of trying to follow all the tortured reasonings of "the truth"

To circumcise or not to circumcise?

Girls like it? In my generation (40) all guys were circumcised, so as a girl it's all I saw.
My son (15) is not circumcised, neither are any of his friends, so presumably the girls of his generation will be used to uncircumcised penis's (Peni?) I don't know what's plural???
By the time you see a guys penis, you generally like a lot of things about him, circumcised or not wouldn't make a difference (unless you were a complete idiot).
Nambo, thanks for explaining difference in sensation, I learned something new.

Should Each Governing Body Member Drink Ayahuasca?
by frankiespeakin inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0ommnrjemq.
maybe a good dose of ayahuasca might give the gb some answers for what to do in thier: end hasn't come yet dilemma?.
perhaps it would be too scarry for them, the pressure too great to maintain the delusion they are in, in other words they would have a very bad trip fighting all those demonz they got banging around in thier psychie..

Would a witness have a really bad time on this? I am worried about what's in my head that I don't consciously know about.
I had LSD and that was OK, a long time ago, sorry, i know this is a bit off topic.
I would love to hear what the GB came up with after ayahuasca, probably a lotta new light!!

I was 14 or 15 when I got baptized.
I clearly remember deciding to tell my parent I wanted to get baptized as a way of getting her out of a really bad mood. I also remember wearing a dress that I hated because it was too girly, but I had to wear it because I was told to.
Too young to pick your own clothes? Yes, but....sure you can make a lifelong commitment to Jehovah, and if you change your mind ill shun you forever.....
They pride themselves on no infant baptism, but child baptism is the same thing.

Apostates are narrow-minded victims of brainwashing who believe everything they read
by cedars inor so says the person who left this comment on jwsurvey.org.... what just amazes me is how people can pass judgement on others, make vast sweeping statements and make out that they know best.
this isnt just based on this page, but other pages ive read on this website.
while youre at it why not just say all black people are criminals, all asians are rapists and all white people molest their children.

Further from what edge one has said, for those of us born in our subliminal training begins from birth.
Questioning, means reading supplied questions, discussion, means reading out supplied questions and answers. Demonstrations from the platform tread a well trod path, after years you can predict the speech & word patterns. It's familiar. You sit in meetings slightly stupefied, tired, listening to the same things year in, year out. But it is your parents who are doing it, and there is no sugar coating cause you are young, we were all told to expect Armageddon at any time.
You can recognize The JW writing style, and now it seems crazy that you could ever have believed it, but if its all you ever heard it's all you know.
I believe this is the true genius of JWs, how the could get us so isolated from the world. When I came out, I was so ignorant.
I'm surprised at how many people who are still "in" as JWs are here, I'm glad this forum exists for you. Whether your out, in or whatever, we all have a lot in common.
