My parents would often ask me "where are we in the paragaraph now?" As I would not be following along the whole time, I learned to speed read at a very early age. A very useful skill for the rest of my life. Probably the best thing I learned at the meetings.

i loved hearing their stories.. i had a whole imaginary world i went into.
once the songs were over and the talk started, i would focus on the speaker to look like i was listening and then zone out.

It is NOT The Watchtower Society anymore?!?

i was just talking to a friend (a ms jw) that told me that he was told by the elders on a talk he was about to give that according to their last elders school there are instructions not to use the terms "the watchtower society" or "the society" or "the organization" anymore... but rather to now always use "the faithful and discreet slave" or "the slave"... .

I recently had a call from a family member (elder) who asked me if I still believed in the FDS. At the time I felt that this question may have been the deciding factor for D/A, (or D/F) and perhaps one that the elders had been directed to ask. I also felt that it suggested a (re) focus on the concept of people (FDS) being the direct line for Jeh. holy spirit, (as opposed to the idea of an organization, which could be analyzed and found wanting) and non-blief in such would constitute a person as apostate. The concept of these individuals being put/allowed by jehovah may be easier to push home than that of an organization.

Pathetic Circuit Assembly Experiences

i haven't been to one in the last 1 and a half yrs.

Not long after the 9/11 bombings, I was told by a witness about this experience that had been given at an Assembly Day.
A sister in London picked up a wallet that had been dropped by a man (of Middle Eastern appearance). It contained a lot of money, but she handed it back to him. He was impressed and told her (in confdence) not to be in London on such-and -such a date. The DO (Ray Cowling-as reported) said the Bro and Sis shouldn't place too much importance on this, but he was telling them anyway. The date has been and gone.
Just before this last christmas my neighbour told me the same story, but with London changed to the Gold Coast. Same man, same wallet, etc. Christmas came and went.
I now wonder how many urban myths I listened to and repeated simply because they came from a supposedly reputable individual, and from 'the platform'.
(apologies if the DO is incorrect, thats the name I was given).

Is the USA a bully?

the latest word from the war front is that we should be able to peaceably work out our differences with north korea.
as humiliating as it will be for us to kiss north korea's ass, we will do so because they do have the ability to nuke our west coast.

One or two resposes have mentioned the South Koreans. At present there is quite strong anti-American feeling there. Taxi drivers refusing to pick up foreigners, resteraunts and shops with signs saying 'no Americans". Some acts of persoanl violence, (rape, knife attack, etc). The new president is said to be more anti-American than the former. Much of the ill feeling is long standing and a result of the behaviour of US military personel. This is not the official line, just the feeling on the street.

talk about idols of the heart, but sadly, they can't see it.. the truth is they use the bible to try to support their teachings, when everyone in their right mind uses their teachings to support the bible.. gig

by Roski inany ideas on the following would be appreciated.. 1 cor 7:10-11. this scripture is used to say that to remarry, other than on the grounds of a mates (admitted) adultery, is to become adulterous and thereby be liable for disfellowshipping.. a husband and wife are admonished to stay together, however should 'she' depart, "let her remain unmarried".
apart from the obvious, that this text was written in a different age and for a different people (not intending to devalue the marriage arrangement/or loyalty to one's mate), does anyone have any idea as to other factors involving this text, eg -translation from the greek, time and context of writing, etc.. thanks.

Thank you both for your comprehensive replies. I did a quick search but found nothing, I will try again. Although this was my experience some time ago, I think it is about to be brought up again as a means of D/F - maybe. I have always been sceptical of the interpretation (before it was relative to me), basically because it just didn't make sense within the concept of a heavenly father. I feel particularly sorry for people with a young family, whose children may be denied the opportunity of a parent. Your explanations sound logical. Thanks, Roski.
