My Dad Isn't There Anymore
by BrendaCloutier init really struck me last night that my dad is pretty much gone.
he has advanced alzheimers, and is slowly dying of kidney failure from 40 years of diabetes.
the family stepped in and said no to dialysis, because it would be 5 hours per day 3 days per week - minimum, for limited return on quality of life.

Brenda, my grandmother is the same way and has violent tendencies. I haven't gone to see her in a long time and even when I do she doesn't know me...In the last years she where she knew me I lived with my grandparents. It was only then that I realized just how long she had been ill. She had all kinds of things that I assumed were hoarded, but in reality she had been buying stuff and then not remembering and buying it over again. Stacks of soap, a whole shelf of shampoo, boxes and boxes of cereal. But that wasn't the worst..she became violent with my grandfather, trashed the small shed I was living in, went around ranting and looking for her "$5000" dollars she supposedly put somewhere, or blaming me for stealing it. The last straw was her cooking bacon and then walking away out the door only to be found two miles away digging through someone's trash, all the while the kitchen cabinets are starting to go up in flames...She had to go to a home. Now she is nothing but a shell and as talesin says, it just is not right.. BUT I have good memories. As my parents mismanaged their financial life my entire childhood I had occasion to live with my grandparents. She used to babysit for a living and one of the things I remember is her cooking all the time and playing cards with the kids and making coolaid...And the funny things...like only putting in her teeth to go shopping, a convention, of the Kingdom Hall...only to go right home, take out the teeth, then bust out with the chewing tobacco...Prince Albert out of the can and in to the mouth as it were..funny things one remembers make it easy not to think about the cold dead reality Alzhiemers is...

Do any white people live in New Orleans?
by sonnyboy ini've never been there myself, but every single person being shown on the news is black.
wading through the streets, stranded on rooftops, etc.
i'm not sure if the media is just focusing on certain areas of new orleans or if it's a predominantly african american city.. the only footage i've seen other than this has been mardi gras and that consists mostly of tourists.

Hurr. Katrina and the WTS' slacking hand
by doinmypart ini work in a business that is dealing with the aftermath of hurricane katrina.
in perusing a list of shelters in the affected areas i see civic centers, schools, several churches, but no kingdom halls (gasp!).
imagine that!.

If you look at other churches the giving starts at the bottom when it comes to disaster relief. Church members mobilize and start collecting needed supplies. Or they organize teams to go help the ones in need.. Dubs don't do these things period.

Gay ex-JW Members: do you exclude?
by RAYZORBLADE innon-gay members of this forum, have probably discovered some interesting behaviour here on this site.. me too.. with in the confines of specifics (if such a term even exists), how many folks here who are gay or identified in some way with that term, can say outright: "i am gay/homosexual" without guilt, embarrassment or shame, post-jw?.
i joined this site almost three years ago.
i do not post often, but i am still around from time to time.. gay people.

Dude the big piece of cork is a really good idea. You will always have stuff you need to be reminded of and it is a good way to keep your wall looking decent. Also maybe subscribe to National Geographic...every month they come out with a new map from somewhere in the world...Doesn't take long to fill up a wall with maps at all.. Either that or just start hanging up a bunch or pornography...

Flood Buckets (if you aren't to pure to get nasty with the Harlot)
by SixofNine inhttp://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/print/kits/floodbucket.stm .
the united methodist church sends these buckets to places that suffer loss, and will no doubt be sending them to la, ms and other places in need.
it's a simple project that you can do, or a group can do, to help make a difference.. .
