We should have a convention
We don't have to wear our convention clothes and name tags to dinner and clubbing/drinking afterwards, do we?
if you could pick anyone from jwn to meet in real life to meet and have dinner with, who would that be?
let's exclude all those who you are already friends with, who you know and love from jwn in real life.
so or me, that excludes my friend ann and also curious butterfly.

i was an elder until march 2012 until i resigned.
i then stopped going to meetings in october 2012 and have enjoyed 9 months of freedom that i have found to be jouful!
i loved learning ttatt and sites like this and jwfacts.com have been excellent.. i told the elders that i needed a break and that they should not contact me unless it was a social visit and true to their word they have done that.
But I do want to explain the situation to the elders.
I have a folder full of notes made from my research...
I stopped reading at that point. Nothing you say will matter. No amount of proof or undeniable logic will sway them. They're in a cult. They're still indoctrinated to believe what they're told to believe. They'll follow the rules they're told to follow. And as soon as you start laying out your 'research', they're going to go after you, to have you DFd, then stoned (wait, they can't kill you under current local laws, though if allowed they would).
If you can't afford that, then you have to keep the fade up and use theocratic strategy... lie. Tell em crap. Tell em anything but that you're apostate or you don't believe. This is a war for your sanity and freedom. Do not fraternize with the enemy. These guys aren't your friends. They're loyal to the WTS first.
the committee assigned to build the new complex was called into a meeting with the governing body.
they were told " you finish this project by january 1 2017. we want the keys to the complex and will be headquartered there by that date, do you understand?".
when the brothers protested and said that it would take 6 years for the project to be complete and if they moved that fast there would be many mistakes, the gb responded, "we don't care, that is your deadline".
Vidiot: An earlier thread mentioned something about the GB (or their reps) meeting privately with the Warwick city council and effectively promising not to proselytize in the area in exchange for municipal approval on the complex.
Sir82: I'd also like to see any documentation of this.
I'd like to see some proof of this as well. The religious organization that went all the way to the Supreme Court to fight for the right to go door-to-door, to defend not saluting the flag, etc, etc, buckles under when a small podunk town's city council asks them to not preach in their town? uh uh. I don't buy it. Even though the WTS is as crooked as most town councils...and cheaper, I don't see them caving to that kind of pressure from a group of rubes. If you have constitutional rights to proselytize, why would you agree to give that up? That request could be challenged in court... and defeated.
check out this awesome video - part 7 in a series where a mormon uses the witnesses as a proxy to figure out why his own faith is wrong.. sparlock, hassan's bite model, and even the 2013 "human apostates" convention talk all make cameos.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmesmlhydru.

cedars.
Watched this the other day. I got the impression that this was actually an ex-JW under the guise of being Mormon, highlighting JW tactics to expose the Mormon faith so as to 'trap' unsuspecting JWs into watching the entire video without screaming, "APOSTATE!" and fleeing in fear.
so i have a friend in a congregation in new jersey who recently called me to tell me that he got a divorce.
nothing surprising there at first but it is the fact of when it happened.
his wife began pioneering april 1, and after about three weeks she came to him and told him that about 4 years she had engaged in loose conduct (fondling the penis and the guy kissing her breasts) during a time that she was inactive.
I do know however that if a brother who is married goes to a strip club and pays for a lap dance it is considered adultery. This was told to us by our instructor at the week long elders school.
I seriously doubt that. That's waaaayyy too easy to get rid of your wife, especially if you don't want to go through all that trouble of having an affair.
christ was 50/50.
god lowered himself the most to become half man.
he saw himself in the girl.
Nearly all religions are just extortion rackets

So - Cedars is a shadowy underground figure?
AAWA should change their name to aawanonymous
i know i'm going to get bagged on for this, but i'm really just trying to help those who are fading if they have facebook or are on any social media outlets.. first off let's review.. .com stands for commercial.
.net stands for network.
....etc.. so facebook.com is a commercial site, meaning they are trying to sell you something....or specialized advertising trying to get you to buy something because of your browsing history.
Facebook 101 for faders:
Simple, yet easy rule:
Don't post anything or join anything or like anything or friend anyone that you don't mind your JW family or stalking JW elders to see. Period.
And before someone goes off on the AAWA thing, if faders hadn't friended other faders or ex-JWs, they wouldn't have been lumped into the crowd that got caught up in the mess. Not blaming them, it ain't their fault, but you can't intermingle two lives into one social network and not expect some risk of exposure. If you don't want that risk, then don't use Facebook to interact with the ex-JW crowd.
this is crazy..... .
questions from readers.
how should christians view fortune cookies?.
Good parady... and not so far from the truth.
I remember as a kid, we were not allowed to read our 'forutnes' from fortune cookies. And the reasoning wasn't so far from what the parady article alluded to.

Seems my long term paranoia has come in handy. I've been very, very careful about who I actually let know who I really am. I've met all of five people from JWN, and know one or two more that I haven't actually met in person. I feel I can trust a few that I've come to know along the way, but anything you put on the Internet lives pretty much forever... or you have to think that way.
But, as the old saying goes, when people are out to get you, then paranoia is just good thinking. While I'm out of the JW religion for all intents and purposes, I am not known as an opposer or apostate. I'm inactive in most dubs eyes. Very few know my true feelings about the cult. And I keep that to myself so I don't cause friction in my JW family, as I try to get them to see the light for themselves. May never happen, I know, but I keep trying. And as more and more time goes by, the less I really care about getting found out, but I'd rather do it on my terms. I wouldn't want to be torpedoed like several here have reported, and like the thread originator. What he must be going through, and especially having never heard of AAWA. Hope it works out for him.
I feel bad for a couple of people I came to respect and like that are part of the AAWA group and who are now caught up in this shitstorm. Hope they're doing okay as they try to muck their way through the mess as well.
