from a new WT article (May, I think) about predicting the future. And I quote:
RELIGIOUS LEADERS sometimes predict tragic worldwide events to warn mankind and gather followers. Doomsday prophet Harold Camping and his disciples widely advertised that the earth would be destroyed in 2011. Needless to say, the world is still here.

Bizarre comment about jw.org at SAD
by sir82 inrecently attended a sad.. bethel speaker was gushing about the wt's embrace of new technology, in the part of his talk warning about "apostate" web sites.. a loose summary of his comments:.
"and the brothers at headquarters have made it very safe for you to go to our website.
in fact, the brothers talked to the folks at google, and they made a special arrangement so that when you type in 'j w period' into the google search engine, it automatically shows you the jw.org website.

It may be a loving provision for dubs. They're lazy anyway and probably don't spend much time looking for JW related stuff online...between porn and Facebook.
But for outsiders that want to research them, they'll google 'Jehovah's Witnesses' or maybe 'Watchtower'. And behold! The plethora of apostate and anti sites. Even if they don't read much of it, just seeing so much controversy, it would scare the normal person from getting any more involved.

What's the difference between Pentecostal snake handlers and JWs?

snake handlers can point to one scripture that supports their practice.

Not much.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/16/us/snake-salvation-pastor-bite/
Snake handlers can point to one scripture that supports their practice. Snake handling preacher gets bit and then dies because he refused medical help. Relied on his God to save him instead. So now he's dead.
JWs can point to one NT scripture to support their belief. JWs refuse blood transfusions, relying on their God to resurrect them in a paradise earth later. Many JWs, including children, are now dead.
(If there is a difference it's that JWs are worse in that they allow their children to die to prove the adult's faith in their god)
Engage a JW and get them to critisize these nutjobs, and then after you can slam them for being exactly like them, you can watch a JW slither away just like a snake after biting a Pentecostal...

Ask a dub if they believe the earth (or universe) was part of the 6 day creative process. When they parrot the WTS line that the earth (universe) was created and in place before the actual 6 day period of creation ON the earth, have em read Exodus 20:11

Awake! January 2014 - Which 'basic' kind are humans?
by bats in the belfry ingod did not make life in a simple form and allow it to evolve into more complex forms.
instead, he created basic kinds of complex plants and animals, which then reproduced according to their kinds.
( genesis 1:11, 21, 24 ) this process, which continues today, has resulted in the earth being filled with the same kinds of life that god originally created.. the bible does not specify how much variation can occur within a kind, as might result when animals within a kind interbreed and adapt to their environment.

This seems to be a pretty significant concession. I.e., "we don't call it evolution, but others do". It's not such a big leap from that point to "evolution is at least partially true".
Fits in with their MO of gradually introducing ideas that would, if sudddenly changed, cause massive cognitive dissonance.
Yea. Hard core creationists are scorned by most people who give half a minutes thought to the debate. While the WTS version of creation isn't hardcore, it is just as ridiculous in the face of science. I think they realize that they can't hang on to it for very much longer.
But, it does raise another problem. Creation of Adam. 6000 years ago. They can't shake that one. If they give in on the Adam myth, then the ransom sacrifice of Jesus is moot. What's the point of being sacrificed, buying back what Adam lost, if Adam wasn't a real person?

About the seemingly turnaround on using tablets...
The WTS/JWs is a reactionary organization anymore. Or has been for the last 50 some years. In the early days of Russell and even Rutherford, they were progressive. Using motion pictures, radio, phonographs, all new and modern technology. But along the way it was decided since Jesus didn't lug around a phonograph player, then Jah's people shouldn't either.
Even through the 70s, the printing was cutting edge... but that was because you had free labor in the printing rooms all the way down to the street hawkers. They could afford it.
But as the computer age exploded and the Internet and personal computers, PDAs, then smartphones, tablets, became everyday tools, the WTS grew afraid of this information superhighway at one's fingertips. They sought to demonize it and scare people away from it. But when even their senior citizens have to rely on the Internet to do their jobs, or run their households, they can't beat it. They had to come around and embrace it. And I think they finally learned that by harping on it, it only encouraged people to defy them. So they did a turnabout, started working on how to use the technology, and hoping to keep fear in the sheeple to only use that WT app on their iPhone, and not go out googling JWs and finding JWfacts.com

I also imagine that it won't be too long before the WT has to admit that "evolution" by the strict dictionary definition is a reality.
You may have hit on something there. The WTS never drops a bomb like change in doctrine. They set it up with subtle changes, such as redefining words and phrases. Doesn't matter that it has no basis in real life or fact, but in dubland, if you control the information, you can make the people believe whatever you want.
With this confusing, somewhat contradictory statement, they may be setting up a slow change in how they define 'evolution' and how they can slowly convince their followers that belief in 'evolution' is consistent with their doctrines. It's not an overnight thing. It'll take a couple years or more.
We should keep an 'evolution watch' on em and see what they print over the next couple of years. Naw... I've gotta life. Don't really care that much...

I just posted this on another thread, about SlimBoyFat going back:
A few people have wondered how one could post here for so long, act as if you're leaving/fading and then do a 180 and go back. I know a couple of people who are still active and pretending to be faithful dubs, yet are fully awakened to the lie that is "the Truth". What I've noticed is that when they spend so much time associating with those people (JWs), they are still influenced by them, even when they don't truly believe in the doctrine. Their world view can be skewed by their constant indoctrinal talks, meetings, asseblies, etc.
If you're one of those people, there comes a time when you either are going to go crazy, trying to pretend you're something you're not, or you make a change away from the insanity of living a lie. So you have two basic choices: 1. You leave. You finally pull the trigger, cut the cord, break it off, whatever. You take a stand AGAINST the WTS and you move on with your life, chips falling where they may. Or - 2. You give up and you give in. You can't fight em. Your family outnumbers you. They're stronger. They win. You go back and give it your all. It happens.

Modern research supports the idea that the basic categories of plants and animals have changed little over vast periods of time.
Is that a direct quote?
That sentance alone torpedoes their belief in the flood story. To believe in a world wide flood 4000 years ago, one has to accept that animals, and humans as well, have changed drastically over 4000 years. Much more quickly than any modern research indicates it takes life to evolve, or as the WTS wants to put it, 'adapt'.
Remember, the WTS uses the word 'kind' when talking about how many animals were on the ark. There were two (or seven, depending on which verse you're reading) of every 'kind'... so they're were two canines, not two of every type of breed of dog. And from that 'kind', the canine, came all the types of wolves, coyotes, dogs, dingos, etc that populate the planet today. And this all happened in just 4000 years. Yet, above they accept that "the basic categories of animals have changed little over vast periods of time"
