Does the gentleman have money? My first impression was that the new girlfriend is a golddigger and is looking to alienate him from family, angling for his entire estate upon his death. The only thing that puts a hole in that theory is that he is improving his health by losing weight and cutting back on drinking.

Preaching in Israel is supposed to serve what purpose??
Sends a message to Hamas, that if they don't settle down, then dubs will start setting up their literature carts in their tunnels

Tv.jw.org - Average Jdub reaction? I'm getting NOTHING but Silence!
by 4thgen inhello all, as you know, when jw tv was announced, our board went wild.
many comments, much speculation and alot of negative feedback on the quality, etc.
well, what has me concerned is that i have not heard a peep from any of my connections left in kingdom-land.

Could it be that it is causing SOME JW's to question their OWN GB and WT leaders and is causing them within their own disquieting thoughts to think : " Oh my God, are OUR WT leaders doing the same thing to us that false religious leaders do to THEIR flock and members " ?
I watched...well, let's say 'I tried to watch' some of the new tv.jw. It was painful. Awful. Makes Pat Robertson look like George Clooney in comparison. And my first thought was similar to above; dubs are gonna look at this and go, 'omg, our religion looks just like other tv religions. how embarrassing'. But then I realized something that we've all been noticing the last few years: most JWs are just 'on paper' dubs. They're not zealous, or even particularly faithful. They put on a show, to stay out of trouble or keep peace in the family, and go about their daily lives without ever giving JWism much thought. They show up for meetings, throw in a couple of hours of service, help clean the hall, and the rest of the time, they might as well be an outsider. Aside for avoiding holidays, you could never spot them out in the real world, except in service. The vast majority of these phonies will never look at tv.jw.org. They probably don't even look at regular ole JW.org. I'm sure a small minority are shaken, but by and large, most JWs will go about their business and not pay it much mind.

One Day assembly in Arizona- $17,000 !!
by AndDontCallMeShirley ini heard from a reliable source that a one-day assembly in arizona last weekend had a "cost" to the publishers of $17,000.. predictably, the elders were nice enough to obligate the attendees to a $6,000 donation to wt before the assembly "costs" (i.e.
"rent/extortion) were even met.
$11,000 rent plus $6000 in extra "donations".

I knew Omega Man and the movie I Am Legend were based on the same book, but I've never read the book (though I would like to). I had heard that Will Smith's movie was truer to the book than Omega Man, but Will Smith is no Charleton Heston. And I saw Omega Man as a kid, so it left a pretty big impression. I was 'eh' on Will Smith's movie.

Back when I was an active JW, I had several experiences. I'd wake up from a bad dream, and couldn't move. I wasn't completely awake, but aware of my surroundings and realize I couldn't move. It was like something was sitting on my chest, and I'd try to roll over, push up, or sit up and couldn't move. And I couldn't speak. I'd try to say something and nothing would come out. As a brain dead JW, I thought it was a demonic attack. I would try my best to follow the WTS advice... say, "Jehovah Jehovah" over and over, but I couldn't even squeek a noise out. Even though panic was setting in, the muscles started slowly working and I was able to grunt and trash a little. Then I'd finally come around and fully awake and get motor/voice control back and sit up in a sweat, breathing hard.
Once I realized the WTS was not the one true organization of Jehovah, and accepted the fact that there are no demons to attack me, I never experienced another one. I've come to accept it as a sympton of anxiety brought on by fear of not living up to standards as set up by WTS/JWs. Now that I'm free and clear of their control, that anxiety is no longer present.
