I didn't read the whole article(I just couldn't make myself do it) but I didn't see anywhere where it mentioned hand to eye coordination. It has been studied and revealed that video games help in the hand to eye coordination of young ones. Race car drivers have set up elaborate video systems so they can "practice" at whatever track they are racing at next. Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kevin Harvick in NASCAR are two drivers that swear by it and says that it makes them better drivers on the track. That doesn't get a mention does it? Just the negative. The only positives are in the first couple of paragraphs as a side note and then it attacks from there on out.

Apparently he's not a super zealous JW or he would have done tried to convert you by now. Also saying that he has only spoken at his "church" shows he might be a bit embarrassed to say he's a JW.
Time will tell how strong a JW he is. In time you may be able to delicately drop some info for him to digest. My .02

I admire the fact that you are able to not hold any resesntment against this young lady. I have admired also the stance you took when DAing yourself and making it known that wanted no more to do with the org. Unfortunately now you are having to suffer because of it. But it's great that you are not placing the blame on one who is blinded by the org.
In the short time that I have visited here, I have come to realize that you are one of the most level-headed, fair people here. I have enjoyed your posts very much. It's you and people like you that have made me realize that "apostates" are not nut-cases or "return to vmoit" devil worshippers.

WTS and donations
by freedom96 inmany christian type religions, organized or not, believe in giving 10% like was done in the old days in the bible.
you even have the mormons, who must give 10%.. as money hungry as the wts is, why have they not gone for that as well?
they can always justify anything for any reason.

This is a side point, or question rather, but do JWs in other countries "charge" for the literature at the doors? Did the donation arrangement that started in the US start for all branches or just the US? Reason I'm asking is that if they are still charging in other areas then that shoots down the "simplifying arrangement" story used to explain the donation arrangement here in the US.

Movie that could describe your experience as a jw?
by Nicolas inpersonnally, i thing that the movie "the matrix" and the movie "the truman show" really describe my experience in the wbts.
when i discovered the truth about the "truth", my perception of the reality became really different.
all that i have been taught was just a big lie.

OK, this one may be weird but when I saw the remake on Planet of the Apes toward the end when the little monkey landed in the pod thing and all the apes thought it was semos(?) returned and then Marky Mark exposed their false beliefs, the big gorilla in charge of the army said, "Everything I have believed has been a lie". I sat there stunned. I understood exactly what that character was going thru at that moment.
I said it was weird.

This is pretty much the same article over and over. Just substitute "television" or "music" for "computer games". Their all violent. They teach wrong morals. They consume too much time. Eye strain (ear damage, if music). Cost's money. Always an example of a "Christian" who overcame his problem with this "addiction".
They take such a negative approach to everything. Everything is bad. It's better to not have anything to do with it. Why not be positive? You can enjoy computer games. But you have to learn to set limits in it's use and content. They don't mention that. They just throw all the bad things they can find about them at you and then the nice little experience of how one person went cold turkey. That's what they want you to do. A lot of their readers will overreact and just plain ban these from their homes. "The Society says it's bad for you and this is coming from the F&DS so we don't want to displease Jehovah". Whatever.

Did anyone accuse you of being materialistic?
by freedom96 inthese days, it takes a lot of money to make ends meet.
i live in southern california, and it takes even more.
let alone if one wants to get ahead in life.. in order to do that, either one needs schooling, or must own their own business.

I mentioned that there were "service rigs" in the parking lot that cost 3 times as much as I paid for my Vette. Service rigs owned by elders."
That always killed me. Elders families coming to the mtgs in big SUVs. That was ok. But when we showed up in our sports car(that was bought second hand for a lot less than these SUVS) we got looked down on.
Because of riding in many a mini-van in service over the years, I will never, ever, never own a mini-van. Scourge of the highway. No offense to mini-van owners

No one ever called me materialistic to my face, but they did behind my back. Back when I was young, lived alone, had several cars, nice stuff and I did that working 3 days a week. After getting married I settled down and got a full-time job and we bought a house. Nothing fancy but a place we could call our own. This one elder, who had moved South from up north, had retired from his 30 some year government job, sold his house up there and bought a huge, I mean, huge house down here kept after me and other young brothers to quit our full-time jobs, sell our houses and pioneer. He always said, "Why do you want to work full-time when you could be pioneering? Sell your house and extra cars and be a spiritual man."
The one thing I don't understand about the idea of not owning your home makes no sense. It is cheaper to own than rent. Not to mention the tax breaks. If you can afford to own then you should do it. It makes financial sense. But to the JWs, owning is like the plague. Why is that?

I wasn't at the meeting that night(as usual) but a week or so after the attacks, a letter was read reminding the friends not to assume anything. The attacks did not mean Armagedon had started and it was not prudent to go around proclaiming that. I found that interesting since at the next circuit assembly and district convention they used that fear to remind us that we truly are in the last days and nobody knew what would happen next.
I heard that the Society used one of it's buildings as some kind of HQ of sorts for some of the rescue workers and that they served meals to workers(non-JW). I thought that that was a true act of charity and trying to be part of the community. Can anyone verify that this really happened?
