Pinata's?

my mother asked me to assist in a party she is throwing for the young girls in the congregation.

(she probably figures it will "strenghten me" seing as how i don't go in service or to meetings hardly any more.

) i was buying a pinata, which both my mother and the young girl giving the party thought was cool, and another witness at wallyworld, saw it and said witnesses weren't supposed to use pinatas because of an ancient ritual.

a cruise (with alot of witnesses) and they had a ladies clothing scavenger hunt in which you had to find a dress, shoes, purse, ect. and dress the man in the group up. Several elders were dressed like ladies, it was hilarious!!!!

Sounds like your group had a good time enjoying that activity on the ship. But according to the WTS these men that were dressed up like this have not only brought shame upon themselves, they have brought shame upon the organization(hence God). I bet you didn't think of that during your fun activity did you?

Somebody used the word "kiljoy". How appropriate. The WTS sees people having innocent fun and somehow they have to ruin it. Can't let people have fun, they might realize that going door to door isn't so much fun. Kids don't care about the origin of the pinata. Hell, nobody really knows the origin. But since it was used somewhere, sometime, somehow in a religioius observance, it's wrong. It's like throwing the baby out with the bath water. The baby's dirty, the water's dirty, let's just get rid of both em. No more dirtyness.

Spending Saturdays dressed up in a suit knocking on doors ~~selling~~placing magazines. That was while I was in. Now that I'm out, one thing that aggravates me is the hypocrisy of the people in charge while still claiming to be God's spokesmen on earth.

my husband loves the move the ten commandments so it's a type of easter ritual to watch it after we come home from a good dinner & easter egg hunt with the in-laws.

of course, i never knew why they show it at easter time - but hey - it's a good movie.

this year i finally figured it out (duh... passover, lamb is sacrificed at twilight on nissan 14 - jesus died in late afternoon on nissan 14. isrealites saved by the blood of a lamb - christians saved by the blood of the lamb.

New Light on the United Nations (U.N.) (Scarlet Beast)

there appears to be "new light" in the latest watchtower magazine (june 1st 2003 issue).

several watchtower publications for the last 50+ years have said that the united nations (u.n.) organization ("the scarlet-colored wild beast" of revelation) would definitely be the organization that will carry out jehovah's judgment on "babylon the great" (false religion), and then, under satan's [gog of magog's] direction, the united nations organization would become "greedy", and try to attack the remaining remnant of the "anointed" jehovah's witnesses and their companions, the "great crowd" of "other sheep", and then jehovah and jesus would destroy the united nations organization, along with everyone else who was not a jehovah's witness.

Why can't he? What about Job? What human agency did Satan use to afflict Job? If Satan can influence human power enough to provoke them to do his deeds, why can't he just do it himself? He's strong enough to control Smurfs and strong enough to control governmental agencies, but isn't strong enough to attack a defenseless people that will refuse to fight?

...that coercing people to be like something that they are not is probably harmful. It is true that we need controling from infringing on the rights of others, but beyond that, why should anyone's way of life or powers of expression be curtailed?

I agree with you, but the WTS obviously doesn't. It trys to make everyone conform to standards that they(the WTS) have set. They will say individuality and being able to express yourself is good and allowed by the Bible on one hand but on the other hand will set all these "principles" that true christians "should" or "would" follow and use it to control the people and make them conform to their preconceived standards.

While I can see certain standards being kept for people in positions of responsibility(i.e. COs, Bethelites, etc.) and I don't mean to the point they do it now, if it isn't spelled out directly in the Bible, then each one should use his Bible-trained conscience to decide matters. Case in point, beards. Brothers can't have beards. What Bible principle is that based on? It's a man-made tradition handed down. While the WTS can impose this on Bethelites(It is their property, after all) and maybe upon COs who technically work for the corporation, this non-Bible-backed requirement shouldn't be able to be enforced upon the R&F. But the R&F allow themselves to conform to a standard that doesn't have one iota of backing in the Bible. And when one person bucks the tradition he will be viewed as weak or rebellious and will be watched closely by the elders. All because a brother decides to groom himself differently than what is considered the accepted norm(by the WTS). He has broken no law, principle or even a fashion faux pas. He will either fight the system and pay for it in friendships and/or positions or give up, give in, accept that he can't be himself and his spirit is broken.

They may do these things but they are admonished to not do these things. They try to make you feel guilty for being normal.

listen to 'worldly' music and radio

Worldly music is debasing. Beware debasing music. Kingdom melodies are uplifting. Listen to them to feel closer to Jehovah(I guess he prefers bad music)

watch 'worldly' movies, television

Well, R-rated movies are out. Television should be limited. Nothing "adult" oriented should be watched. "Be babes as to badness".

go to 'woldly' night clubs and bars

That's a definite no-no. I remember all the articles about discos or music clubs and how bad they are. Bars are full of worldly people. We shouldn't seek our entertainment with them.

work at 'worldly' jobs that support the 'worldly' structure

Even here they try to get you. Do not go to college. Without college, you can't get the higher paying jobs(avg person that is). They encourage people to work part-time and be full-time ministers.

wear 'worldly' clothes: blue jeans, tshirts, suits which originated from the military

They are constantly harping on not keeping up with the latest fad. Jeans and t-shirts(without slogans or logos) maybe ok for working in, but true christians try to represent God's organization in a clean manner at all times, by not copying the styles of the world.

watch 'worldly' sports either on tv or live, cheering for one team or another

Witnesses have been counsled on watching violent sports(boxing, football, hockey and even auto racing). Taking time to go to a sporting event would be better spent in the service. Witnesses would NEVER miss a meeting to go to a worldly sporting event. Even participating in pick-up games get the treatment. Bodily training is beneficial for a little...

go to 'worldly' music concerts

They have warned about these too. Rock concerts are a definite spiritual danger. Even classical music has been warned against, depending on the situation. Is it Christmas season? Then the ballet is out because it will be the Nutcracker and that is a regular Christmas presentation.

While these may not be DFing types of things, they are definitely looked down on and discouraged by the WTS. Witnesses that consistently keep doing these things are considered to be weak and are sometimes black-listed by others who consider themselves holier somehow.

for those who left the borg, has anyone stopped and think, "who am i really supposed to be apart from the borg?".

I think I lost the "real me" when I was a little lad many years ago. He's probably still in here, buried deep down but I'll never be the person I should have been or be able to replace what was lost.

Or could it be that some on JWD have infiltrated the Watchtower?

Now, that's a pretty good idea. Plant JWD members on each elder body around the world. Then you can obtain secret info and disseminate info that can be damaging to the organization. Plant some in Bethel. All kinds of things to learn there. Maybe even move up enough to have contact with the GB. Plant listening devices. Steal documents. Blow open the whole scam. Then sell the movie rights. This would make a great movie.

The couple of JCs that I was a part of I remember an elder always asked, "What did you do after committing this sin?" The answer they were looking for was "pray to Jehovah". While I'm sure that some people probably did not feel worthy of praying after committing some wrong, that seemed to be important to the elders. If you committed some wrong, went home, felt terrible and knew you needed God's forgiveness or just to pour your heart out to him and you did that, then it seemed to show that you were repentant and wanted to correct the wrong that had been committed.

you know, there is nothing like the pleasure of looking on your bookshelf and seeing all those dub books in their hard bound covers and their pretty colours.

you can arrange them all kinds of ways, putting all the yellow ones together and the blue ones together .then you can put the green graded ones in the middle creating a flowing rainbow effect.

You can arrange them all kinds of ways...

I arranged them by size. Bound volumes on the bottom shelf. Too heavy to go any higher. Then on the upper shelves, I arranged them by size. Big book, then medium book, then the little books. Had to stack the paperback ones, they wouldn't stand up. Of course, their all in boxes now. I didn't arrange them any kind of way for the boxes, I just wanted em outa sight.
