Tell that to all the abuse victims on this board. They're not all from one congregation, they're from all over the world.

If you want to take each question or response one at a time, why not start with the first response to your questions? Explain the WTS position of why they became an NGO of the UN? Yep, that's right. The United Nations. The Wild Beast of Revelation. The Wild Beast that the harlot rode on the back of. The harlot being Babylon the Great. Babylon the Great that will be destroyed for riding on the back of this Wild Beast. Why should the WTS not share with her in her sins?

3- The most outstanding mark of true Christians according to John 13:34, 35 is that they have real love among themselves. They are not taught to think that they are better than people of other races or skin color. They aren't taught to hate people from other countries. So they do not share in wars.

But they are taught to think that they are better because of their religion though. All non-JWs are viewed as wicked, evil, demonic, worldly. All non-JWs will die at Armageddon unless they become a JW. JWs cannot associate with non-JWs without repurcussions. How is this showing real love?

Circuit Overseer Visit....not interested

last night was the first meeting of the circuit overseers visit.

i didnt go, but i know (because of a call from an elder about two weeks ago) that they are going to visit me this week.

What a hold this religion has on us. Someone asks, "the elders are coming to visit, what should I do?" and the best answer is "hide" or "don't answer the door"?

It is a very stressful situation to stand up to these people. We know that for the most part, we can't reason with them, so why try? But, to run and hide is no better than those JWs who refuse to listen to logic and reason. At some point we have to stand up, admit that we question the WTS and be honest about it. Running, hiding and avoiding these situations just reinforces their opinion that they are right and we are scared or ashamed. Now, that doesn't mean you have to admit that you're going apostate or turning your back on Jehovah(tm). We can be "mostly" honest(read: use theocratic warfare) and be coy at the same time. But don't be afraid of them. They're only men. What can they do? Yes, some of us are fading so as to not lose family connections, but that doesn't mean we have to live like refugees in our own home.

On CNBC,,,,PRINCE admits he is a JW....Did U believe he was?

i am watching prince talking to the reporter on cnbc, and she asked him if he is now one of jehovah's witnesses and he said......."yes".

i have read things in magazines and newspaper articles but i really could not believe that he was an active witness.

well, i guess i had to hear it with my own ears.

Notice that reporters never ask Bono, Cher, Madonna, Sting or any other one name musical giant what religion they are? But Prince joins a non-traditional religion and it becomes newsworthy. If he had become a Baptist or Methodist, no one would have given a rat's ass. I can't help but think that this should tell you something about this religion.

But, OTOH, celebrities like to surprise and shock people. Who knows, after the hoopla of being a JW dies down, maybe Prince will look into Mormonism or Scientology. Janet exposes a boob, Prince changes religions. Maybe it's all a PR scheme.

JW Get-togethers

do you have any good memories of jw get-togethers?

a lot of my good memories of them have tarnished with age.

i vaguely remember them.

I remember them as being fun events for the most part. Especially anytime a sporting event was part of the event. Softball, volleyball being two of the more popular because all ages and both male and female could enjoy without it becoming a testosterone-fest.

I do remember an impromptu wet t-shirt contest, unplanned and unintentional. I was about 16-17 and a couple of 15-16 yr old hottie sisters were there. It was extremely hot and humid that day. Too hot to be outside. One of the girls found a bucket, filled it with water and dumped it on one of us. Of course we had to retaliate. We grabbed a bucket, filled it and chased the girls around the picnic area. I came face to face with one of the girls (who was, um, well-endowed) and let her have it, right on her tight, white t-shirt. It was then we realized, along with all the parents, adults, elders, et al, that she wasn't wearing a bra and just how perky a 16 yr olds breasts can really be. She didn't seem to mind, I know I didn't, but boy did all the adults go nuts. That pretty much ended the entire event right there. I understood that I probably shouldn't have done it and would have accepted any punishment handed down, but for the whole picnic to just shut down always bugged me. Why should everyone have to be suffer because of a couple of adolescent hi-jinks?

Thanks for the thread, it brought back some good memories(I can still see that wet t-shirt in my mind's eye).

How many were raised as a JW during their teenage years?

I was. I feel like I missed out on being a normal teenager. Not just because of missing some holidays. It was so much more. It's hard to put in words and I think only JWs or people from similar backgrounds can really understand it.

I learned to like being alone. I had JW friends, but you only saw them at the halls and some weekends. All my classmates had busy lives in school, after school, school friends, school activities, etc. I went to school, went home, did homework, studied for the meeting, went to the meetings. TV and books were my escape. Even that was subject to censorship from the parental and elder units. Weekends brought field service and then some social activity with JW friends. I never learned social skills, because I wasn't allowed to attend any social functions outside of JW sponsered events. And those were tightly controlled.

I see teens today and they seem so much mature than I was at their age. I look back at my teen years and I realize that my mental growth was actually stunted by the JW program that my parents so heartily subscribed to. I probably didn't hit my stride unitl my late 30s, when I had realized that being a JW was no longer something that I wished to be. Once I was free from that I started to enjoy so many things that I missed out on as a youth and young adult. Better late than never though.

Poor, poor, pitiful you. 40 minutes and nobody responded to one of your questions.

I hope that I can help by sharing some things that I have learned in trying to exit the WTS, but be unbiased and fair by not condemning all JWs because they happen to be JWs. Most of the R&F are duped as we were once duped. I hope more JWs realize what has happened to them and that they try to exit.

if you had the opportunity to help a person understand the jehovah's witness religion, what would you make sure they understood about the "truth"?

A couple of things:

Any group who wants to limit information about itself from its members is usually hiding something. Having doubts, questioning doctrine, questioning leadership, independant research, using the Internet for research is all strongly warned against if not outright condemned. Why would an organization that supposedly has nothing to hide and supposedly follows God's Word as its basis for worship have to do this?

One hundred years of failed predictions. Research their past and their track record for predicting Armageddon and how many times they were wrong and how often they change their viewpoint on major doctrines. I might start with 1914 and the generation that will not pass away. From the 30s to 1995 it was taught and believed that the generation that saw 1914 would not die off. In 1995, that changed and now is no longer believed and that generation has died off without seeing the promises of a new paradise earth.

Somebody mentioned "Hey-Ya". I don't much care for it, but the first time I heard it, I knew it would go number one. It's a perfectly formulated pop song.
