DID ANY ELDER DO anything questionable?

i have read ozziepost's post on those tasmanian elders who raided a sda church.. does anyone know of similiar behaviour by elders?

A married elder had an affair with a newly baptized sister. Both DFd.

Another elder was having an ongoing affair with a divorced sister in the hall. She was DFd and told to not let her kids come with others who were willing to pick them up. He was DFd but not for long. The last I heard he's an elder in another city.

Another single elder DFd for "unrepentant loose conduct" according to my inside source. But it leaked out from other sources to other people that the elder was homosexual and had attempted to seduce a couple of young brothers(of legal age). He denied it, but the two brothers who didn't like him to begin with testified against him. They had their two witnesses. It has been rumored since that the elder was set up and the two witnesses lied.

I knew of several elders who were shady businessmen. Didn't follow wage laws or file taxes, cheated the friends, used shoddy materials, the list goes on.

One Circuit Overseer who was somewhat a pain in the ass, very hard on the friends, opionated, generally disliked. Apparently he treated his wife much the same way he treated everyone else. She committed suicide.

So they're not "required" to go door-to-door but if they don't "preach" the "good news" then by their works they will have been proven unrighteous. Nice little conundrum they've got there.

Somebody- Please Help Me UNDERSTAND?

i understand there is a ton of anger out there toward the wts and dub's, and rightly so... what i don't understand is this notion that there is an evil conspiracy on the part of the wts and dubs as individuals to subjugate and control the unwary (or however you want to label us) for some evil sinister purpose.

i know what they are doing and agree it's wrong but to what purpose- i mean you can look at televangelist and see what's up with them (follow the money).

but what's up with the dub's.

Freedom of religion is just that, FREEDOM. If people want belong to an organization that operates by enforcing a group mentality driven by fear, then so be it, but leave my family in tact, please.

Ever notice how the WTS is always fighting for religious freedom in different countries of the world? They even go to court, all the way to the Supreme Court of many lands to ensure that their members are allowed the freedom of religion as granted by whatever constituition, charter, etc follwowed by the respective countries.

The WTS fights for and demands their rights as spelled out by the governments but then denys those same rights to it's members when they want to leave. They don't physically imprison them so that they can't escape, but they use mental techniques to imprison them and keep them from leaving. Even if they can't convince someone any longer that they are the right religion, they'll hold families "hostage" so as to keep the membership of the one wishing to leave. Memberships cannot be canceled with serious repurcussions.

Do you know of any "baptized" JW's that committed suicide or attempted?

i remember one of my childhood friends was found dead and the police said he committed suicide.

i just could not believe it because my friend was a "devout" jw almost franatical about it.

now years later since i have seen both sides of the coin i am beginning to wonder if my friend did indeed kill himself.

I've mentioned it here before but a good friend of mine committed suicide. A lot of it was his inability to fit within the mold of being a JW. I didn't see that at the time because I was still in the org and just didn't understand how he could do it. Now that I'm out, I think I understand his angst and depression. I wish there had been a way from him to cope instead of giving up. I wish I could have understood better then and maybe could have helped.

Another life lost thanks to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.

How about going to Bethel Factory in 100 degree weather dressed up like you're going to a Sunday meeting in December?

Oh yeah! I got counseled for wearing jeans to tour Bethel. It was January and cold as hell. I wore jeans, a sweatshirt and ski jacket. You would have thought I had shot the Governing Body or something, the looks I got. I never got that dressing to tour a FACTORY as you would to go to a Sunday meeting bit.

I wonder if there is a way to compare the counsel with the area of the country/world we are from? Can we figure out which areas are much more conservative than others? I remember hearing that the closer to water(ocean)a congregation was the more liberal(read unspiritual) it was. If someone was from Florida or Southern California, it was accepted that they were automatically a different breed of witness.

Take the white shirt thing for instance. That wasn't such a big deal here(Southern US), but beards, sideburns, moustaches were.

I read one post that talked about single brothers and sisters riding in a car alone had to be seperated by front and rear seat. Never mentioned where I lived until a family from the mid-west moved in. While pioneering one summer, I was asked to give the daughter of this family a ride home occasionally. She always rode in the back seat. I asked her why and she said that that was the counsel that they had always received in her circuit.(of course she could have been lying and just hated my guts, lol)

Homeschooling?

this is a pet peeve of mine!

how in the heck can the school board justify turning the education of anyone over to some jacka$$ that dropped out of school to pioneer and makes their living cleaning toilets!

how can any parent that truely loves their kid not take a good long look at themselves and say "i am not the best teacher for this child.

My parents tried homeschooling. They did a trial run during the summer break to see if it would work. It was a total disaster. We were the worst students. How can you expect kids on summer break to sit still and learn math when they could hear all the neighborhood kids running around, playing? My parents gave up after two weeks.

I have known several JW familes who have homeschooled their kids. It worked okay on a couple of them, but I think it stumped the social growth of the average kid. No interaction with other kids. No lessons in how to get along with other people. No lessons in accepting different cultures or backgrounds. No experience in handling opposition to the "truth" even. So when these 18 year olds "graduated" from Mom's High School and were dumped into the work force with absolutely no social skills and even worse, a complete dread and fear of anything "worldly" it created a psychotic and warped personality. Just my .02

Years ago, everyone wore a white shirt. I knew one Hall that had white shirts in all different sizes so that a visiting speaker with a colored shirt could change.

You have got to be bullshitting me??!! But after thinking about some of the counsel I have received I can believe it:

I was counseled on my moustache. It didn't meet the Bethel requirements therefore our local elders felt compelled to counsel me. That was an ongoing battle. I'd trim it for a while and then let it grow. I always wanted a "fu manchu" but everytime I got it close to that, the elders came down on me.

Counseled on choice of tie. Too bright and colorful. Took away from our "message".

Counseled on kind of overcoat to wear in service during the winter months. Several brothers wore waist length jackets. A couple of elders thought that it wasn't dignified enough for service. They said we were to wear 3/4 to full length overcoats. Several MSs were then counseled on their bad attitude for complaining about having to buy new coats.

Counseled on wearing "flared" dress pants on an assembly part in the early 70s. Reflected the attitude of the world.

Counseled on not wearing my suit jacket during the meetings. Not during a talk, but while sitting in the audience. In July.

Counseled on watching R-rated movies. Spirit of the world, blah, blah, blah.

Counseled on "debasing" music. Did you know that the Beatles were Satan worshippers?

Best Of British Sports Cars.

an mgb, an mg midget, 3 sunbeam alpines and an austin healey frog-eye.. 'course, some years back, the wicked americans put out a rumour that soft-tops were to be outlawed in the usa.

which meant that the uk sports car industry would take a massive body-blow to it's exports.

so, in true kamikaze style, the brits sports cars companies started producing absolute garbage with fixed tops so's they could continue with their exports... cars like the jaguar xjs.

I saw a cool British car at a car show a couple of years ago...I don't remember the manufacturer(I remember Tiger but I'm not sure if that's right), but it was a British sports car with an American V-8 engine. Maybe one of you Englishters can enlighten us on that particular car.

hi everyone..............it's been yonks!!

we are doing fine, just really busy living life.. well, last saturday i was out at the markets with a friend (thank goodness).

when i got home mr bliss informed me that a servant brought the co around to our place for a 'friendly' visit.

We personally still don't celebrate Xmas in the traditional sense. No tree, no lights, etc in our house. We don't go crazy buyng gifts for people we never see, etc.

While some people would still consider that Scrooge like or still under the influence of the JWs, there are things that we do that shows that we aren't under the JW influence. We helped our neighbors hang their lights on their house. I helped a friend decorate his business with lights. We had Thanksgiving dinner with some new friends who were kind enough to invite us to dine with their family. We have gone to one Xmas party and are invited to two more neighborhood Xmas parties. We'll be bringing food and drink with us to share. People who say Merry Xmas to me get one in return.

Even though I don't personally care anything about the holiday, I don't stoop to the level of fundamentalists like the JWs and try to ruin it for eveyone that wants to enjoy it. JWs want to be a killjoy for others in addition to depriving themselves of have a good time. I have decided to enjoy the season and even if I don't celebrate the holiday itself, I enjoy the spirit of the holidays. Getting together with friends and neighbors is as much fun as anything. Seeing the excitement of children is fun. The lights that people put up are fun to see. Traffic and crowds aren't so good, but, it's still fun to walk around the mall and feel the excitment and hear the music. It's a fun time of the year and I enjoy it now.
