Hats Off in the House !!!
by prophecor incall me crazy or what, but theres a recurring issue that i have regarding my son's wish to wear his hat in the house.
i've never been certain regarding the reason men were to remove their hats when petitioning the almighty, the issue of headship and being respectful of it and the common custom in the west for a man to remove the hat upon entering one's home or church.
even in the military during basic training, the issue with regard to hats was a predominating theme, to the degree that we were taught that at the instant your head was no longer covered by a building of some sort, your hat was to be immediately placed upon your head, but once open sky no longer covered your head and you walked into a building of any type, that hat was to be removed !!

Welcome Dmac. I respect your courage to post here after learning of this place through those who posted on your website. Especially knowing that "apostates" roam freely here.
But before you leave to never come back(you will "lurk" though, I know) why not use this place to become better equipped to defend your faith? If you are so sure that you have found the one, true religion, then there is nothing that can sway you. This would be a great place to practice against real-life scenerios of objections. Yes, some will make fun of you, just like in the real world. Others will want to carry on a serious dialogue, debating the Bible and what it teaches. Pick a subject and let's see what we each know.
C'mon, give us a try.

New OM Book replacement & Upcoming Elder School
by doinmypart inthe organized to accomplish our ministry (om book) will be replaced on sunday march 20, 2005 with a book titled organized to do jehovah's will.
this is confidential, so be sure to tell your relatives and friends that are still in!
will there be any updates to the org's procedures, or just a re-hash of old policies?

The ministry is being dumped for "doing God's will".....This IS something. Instead of focusing on organizing the ministry, they are pushing the all encompassing theme of "doing God's will".
I agree, this IS something.
Organized to Accomplish Our Ministry
vs
Organized to Accomplish Jehovah's WillThe title says to the reader, "if you follow the directions in this book, you are doing God's will".
I guess the Bible wasn't organized enough to accomplish that goal. -

Asian tragedy: not the "end of the world"...
by observador in... as i am sure some jws will spin it.
as i told my mother once, exagerating a little, they love when tragedies like these happen, as these seem to validate the beliefs they hold so dear.
as tragic and sad as these events in asia are, it's not any signs of times; it's a natural ocurrence that humankind has to learn and prepare to.

How can you feel deep sympathy for "worldly" people dying, when you are praying for an even bigger disaster to happen. After all they`ll get get a ressurection so why bother worrying.
Why do they say tragedies like the tidal wave are horrible when they openly hope and pray for something a hundred times worse?
Excellent questions.
I remember in the days right after 9/11, many JWs were in a "we told you so" pattern in their door to door work. I remember being told that a letter from the WTS was read at my old hall to straighten out those JWs who were a little militant in their message of destruction. That right there shows you how they feel about "worldly" people dying.
To many JWs, at least those who hang on every word coming from Brooklyn, 50,000 people dying in a natural disaster is just another sign. There is no human factor to them. In a couple of weeks when experiences start circulating out of New York of how JWs came to the aid of their brothers, most JWs will get the warm fuzzies thinking what a wonderful organization, thinking nothing of the vast majority of people who died that had nothing to do with JWs or the WTS.

What is your experience as to buying Crisis of Conscience?
by Goldminer in.
i've read a few very interesting stories about people's experiences when they decided to purchase coc.i'd like to share mine and read yours also.. in 1999,not long after we purchased our first computer i started reading material about jw's.before long,i got really interested in the ray franz story because even up here in northern ontario,i had heard about the apostasy of 1980.in the fall of '99 my wife decide to take a college course(bucking the jw trend),and she would stay at her sister's place during the week.one day i called a christian book store to see if they could get me this book.i was very nervous, changed my name and i wouldn't give them my phone number.i told them i'd call back in a few weeks to make sure they had it before i went in to pick it up.. when the day came,i picked up my courage by two hands and took off for my 40 mile drive to get my book.the book store is located in a small shopping mall, which had me really nervous that another jw might see me going in or out of the store.i walked in the mall looking around, making sure there was nobody in sight that i knew.when i walked in the store,i had cash ready in my hands, walked up to the counter, gave my fake name and the book i was purchasing.now i just had to walk and make it to the car and i was home free.. i know buying a book isn't that hard,i do it all the time, but at that time the implicationsof having this book in my possesion was tremendous.. anyways,it's been 5 1/2 years and still nobody here knows.the book has really opened my eyes and mind to the realities of the wts.i would definitely recommend this book to everyone here who has yet to read it.it's worth the effort to acquire it and will take away your fear of the watchdollar.

I ordered it through Amazon but ordered several other books along with it and had them shipped to my place of work. Then I brought the other books home as gifts to the family. Even if someone saw the credit card charge, they wouldn't be able to figure out the cost of each book with out the shipping receipt(which I kept at work).

arguing with a dub....or....how I learned to be apostate and love it
by undercover inrecently, a jw relative tried to discuss my "spiritual well-being" with me.
i have had conversations in the past with this same relative concerning 607 vs 586/587 and 1914. no matter what i said, it went in one ear and out the other.
it was like talking to a brick wall.

I posted this experience back in October and believe it or not, there have been no official repurcussions. I figured for sure that the elders would get wind of my "rebellion". If they did hear of it, they aren't bothering to worry about it. Maybe because I haven't stepped foot in a KH in over a year.
On the other hand, the relative that got my dander up has not spoken to me since. I guess I'm being "shunned".Someone asked if I consciously tipped my hand....I knew I was but I wasn't planning on it. I just got exasperated with them and their continual harping on my lack of spirituality and decided to just unload on them for a while instead of taking all the heat.
It feels good to get the upper hand in these things, but it does no good, at least in the short run. All we can hope is that something, one little thing even, sticks and maybe later something causes them to think for themselves and they remember something we said.
There are days I wish I could just walk away from everything and everybody and start over where nobody knows me. I'm tired. I'm tired of fighting it, I'm tired of being treated like shit, I'm tired of being an outcast, I'm tired of trying to be normal after years of being different. I'm just tired of it all. But I keep going and this place helps. I'm not the only one who's dealing with this. I'm glad my experience may have helped someone as many of ya'lls have helped me.

The universe, designed to support life?
by Elsewhere ini have heard many creationists say: "just look at the universe!
there are so many things about it that have to be just right for it to be able to support life.
an interesting point, so i did a bit of basic math:.

Who created the universe? If we say God, who created God? And then who created the creator of the creator, its a step back ...ad infinitum, its a peeling the onion example------it leads us nowhere.
I was taught that God has always existed. I remember as a kid trying to wrap my brain around the concept of a God living forever, with no beginning and no end. If God had no beginning then what did he do for the eons of time before he decided to piddle around and create a planet of whiners? If God has always been and we are just a speck in the timeline of his existance, then aren't we kind of full of ourselves thinking that we make a difference in whether good(God) prevails over evil(Satan)?
edited to add: the watch analogy was sarcasm. I hope ya'll got that.

Do JWs believe that they are the only ones who will be saved?
by undercover infrom the wts website:do they believe that they are the only ones who will be saved?.
millions that have lived in centuries past and who were not jehovah's witnesses will come back in a resurrection and have an opportunity for life.
many now living may yet take a stand for truth and righteousness before the "great tribulation," and they will gain salvation.

Jehovah's demonstration of love is today as he is patiently holding the winds of destruction in order to give people a shot at salvation.
What the hell does a 9.0 earthquake with psunami(sp?) waves have to do with God's patience? How does "letting these things" happen give people a shot at salvation?
If you wanna argue that God is letting man govern himself for so many years and man's inability to govern himself leads to wars, famines, etc, fine, no problem. But I will never understand why a God of love would allow natural disasters kill so many and then fundamentalist bible-thumpers will say "it's God's will" or "its a sign of the times".
If God is love and if God is Almighty and if he gave a rat's ass about us, he could and would save innocents from disasters.
