Observations from an Ex-Elder Part 1
by doubtfull1799 ini was thinking about the fog model this morning, particularly about the "obligation" part.
my mind went back to the last elders school i went to.
one of the parts in the section on appointments was discussing how we should not place too high a bar (human standards) for brothers to try and jump over when we are considering them for appointment as a ministerial servant.

That's pretty much how I got deleted as an MS (the first time). I was accounts servant, sound servant, volunteered for most building projects, maintenance projects, etc etc etc. But as soon as my hours dropped below the 10.0 average, I got a pep talk about getting those hours back in line. So, I lied on my time report for a few months. Then I just got burned out, and let the hours slip again, and let them delete me. It was actually a load off my shoulders. I should have realized then that if being 'punished' by being demoted was a relief, then there is something wrong with God's earthly organization.

Circuit Assemblies in the "Good Old Days"
by BluesBrother injust been reminiscing about how c/a's have changed since we were young.
i remember when they started friday night in some rented hall , as well as the two weekend days.
saturday morning was a brief session then field ministry (which only a few performed ) and sunday sessions.. in the free time around the venue we just used to hang out socialising and eyeing up the girls.

Well, I'd say that remembering an assembly/convention from being a kid to a teenager is a lot different than remembering the same conventions as an adult.
One 7 day convention that us kids had a blast at, and I actually remember somewhat fondly (from a kid's summer vacation perspective), my parents still bitch about - the long drive, the expense of a hotel, the 3 sessions a day, the sunburns, the heat. All that was lost on us kids that had a blast playing during the breaks, and sleeping during the sessions, and making new friends.

2017 Circuit Assembly: Lesbians at school demonstration
by darkspilver insteve2: is there some way this can be presented so that it is crystal clear what was actually in the demonstrations and what was added?
i guess some will think it should be obvious - but this is where misunderstandings arise because we end up wrongly attributing something to jw organization that was never said.. circuit assembly theme: maintain love for jehovah!.
note to speaker: warmly encourage young ones to prove their friendship with jehovah by observing his commandments and defending his standards.

Hannah: It’s the same with our differing views of homosexuality. Everybody has the right to choose. Based on what I’ve learned from the Bible, I’ve made a lifestyle choice to reject homosexuality, and I appreciate those who respect my right to make that choice.
Emily: I never thought of it that way.Well, Emily, that's because you're not indoctrinated into a cult that teaches that homosexuality is a 'choice'.
What a particularly insidious propaganda skit... 'oh, please respect my choice to not respect others'

Close, Critical Analysis of "Should Others Make Decisions for Us"
by cognisonance inshould others make decisions for us?.
) we should not give someone else the responsibility to make decisions for us.
rather, we should personally learn what is right in god’s eyes and choose to do it.. how might we give in to the danger of letting others choose for us?

It is up to each of us to make decisions, and the wise, right choices are based on sound Scriptural knowledge. Galations 6:5 reminds us: “Each one will carry his own load of responsibility.” (Ftn.) We should not give someone else the responsibility to make decisions for us. Rather, we should personally learn what is right in God’s eyes and choose to do it.
How might we give in to the danger of letting others choose for us? Peer pressure could sway us to make a bad decision. (Prov. 1:10, 15) Still, no matter how others try to pressure us, it is our responsibility to follow our Bible-trained conscience. In many respects, if we let others make our decisions, we are essentially deciding to “follow them.” It is still a choice, but a potentially disastrous one. This can be used to one's advantage should they face pressure from JW family over a decision that one makes in opposition to WTS direction. Take the blood transfusion issue for example. You decide to allow the hospital to administer blood if needed during an operation. JW family goes nuts. The HRC gets involved. All these people are putting pressure on you to abide by WT sanctioned rules. You trot this article out, and tell them through exhaustive research of the Scriptures your Bible trained conscience has determined that a blood transfusion is acceptable, and that to needlessly deny it could lead to a potentially disastrous result.
Not that it changes anything in the long run, but it lays bare their hypocrisy at a crucial moment when you need them to leave you TFAlone.

Over 25 years without a "north king" now.
by The freewheeling insomething jehovah's witnesses do not talk about so much these days is the "north and south kings" of the book of daniel, and the reason is obvious.
this is one of many failed prophecies of the governing body.. they have not been able to present any new north king since the soviet collapse in december 1991, over 25 years ago now!
and this at a time when they are "so close to the end.

Ex wife getting a heart operation
by greenhornet inmy kids mother is getting a new heart valve.
there upset because she is making sure no blood is to be used and her jw cronies will be with her making it hard for my kids even to visit her in the hospital.
can jws get a pigs heart valve now and is her request by having no blood make this procedure difficult for the surgin for a successful operation?.

Heart surgeries can be done without blood... if everything goes well during the procedure. Of course, and not to be morbid, things can happen and if they do, that's when the 'no blood' thing becomes a problem.
Hope all goes well for you and your family

A Beard Maverick
by EyesOpenHeartBroken inso i went to the kh for the first time in a month, and the first brother in our congregation has grown a full beard.
i am in a western u.s. semi-rural area in a cong with an extremely conservative and controlling elder body.
oddly enough, it seemed like people were going out of their way to converse with him and act like they didn't notice the beard or they complimented the beard.

Check out this wacko BS from the 1943 'The Truth Shall Make You Free' book:
Page 342-343
In the postwar "new order" Jerusalem's modern counterpart, "Christendom," will surround herself with armies of an international police force for her continued world domination. The Roman Catholic Hierarchy will attempt to act as the. spiritual police force of the entire earth . "Christendom" will then feel she can cry "Peace and safety". This international police force, or the stationing of order-preserving armies according to the mutual understanding between allied nations, will be for the maintenance of the "abomination of desolation" in the "holy place" . Hence those armies will be really maintained against God and his kingdom . And when you see this, said Jesus, then you may be certain that "Christendom's" astounding "desolation" is nigh. Religion will not save her .
Page 344-345
Before the ten horns of the seven-headed beast turn upon her in retribution, organized religion will turn the horns against Jehovah's witnesses and will ride the beast in a final savage charge against them . ... (illustration)
Therefore "Christendom" will use her postwar "new order" and her encompassing armies (Jesuitic as well as military) for the suppression of the Kingdom message. She will claim it is treasonable and disturbing and unsafe to the postwar rule.So this is new to me. As a kid in the 60s I remember that the notion was that while Christendom rode the Wild Beast, it was the nations that would turn on religion, and then come after JWs... which is wacko in its own right, but this notion of actual armies under Christendom's rule attacking JWs... hoo boy
or did I just sleep through all those book study meetings?
