i am not an athiest or agnostic... i definately believe in god.
however i would honestly like to hear others explain to me why they believe the bible is truly the word of god.. .
@cofty - this is my point. it seems like the same circular reasoning of the WTBTS.
The bible says that the bible is from God so therefore the bible is from god.
The audacity to suppose that God for some reason only chose these few people on the planet to carry his truth while ignoreing the other 95% for years just seems terrible.
If you can look at other books that have the same thoughts and reasonings and just suppose that they are false but the bible isn't seems so ridiculous at times
considering all the consequences of leaving the organization (especially the loss of family), some who have already known ttat have decided to return and continue with the flow just to keep their families and friend.. my question is if anyone here had tried it and how they have been managing living a lie constantly day-after-day?, as i am seriously considering returnning back to the full routine..
You will return if you want... you will never be the same. You will feel disgusted with yourself.
But you may be able to deal with that disgust and bear it.

Your goals change.
You can ignore those feelings for awhile, but eventually they will plague you.
How will you return fully to a routine that you know is based on falsehood? You might do it physically, but emotionally and spiritually you will not be there
so after the district convention was over, i asked my wife what her overall impression was.

Also, what about other religious books, do you likewise feel they are inspired by God, and if not why?

as a result i published the article: dating revelation - solely with internal evidence from the new testament.
Not to be funny but how is the book of revelation truly prophetic if none of the things prophesied are really understood or have been fulfilled?

The problem is that even if you had proof to the contrary which is tons of archaeological evidence - it won't matter to someone who thinks that the bible is 100% correct. There is no middle ground. If you had a stone tablet unearthed from Babylon that said "Although you think this happened in 607 it didn't! It happened last year in 587 so your bible is wrong" They still would not believe you... The best thing to do is just leave them alone and tell them that WTBTS said that dressing your Cat up like a human is tantamount to idolatry and false worship. Pray to god they are an animal lover and maybe their own emotions will appeal to them

Using Bible prophecy as the basis for thousands of pieces of Evidence being wrong is not the way to go

You asking me about revelation is what the point of this thread was at first... why would go even bother doing that to people he loves. Personally I can't be sure that the book of revelation should even be in the bible. Because it contradicts everything the previous books tell me about God. However sure she may not understand the book of revelation but that book goes beyond riddles. It seems to be that someone (John) may have been completed gone out of his mind when writting this book.
But let us say that God did tell John all these things... to this day no one understands it and no one has proof that anyone does. It would seem to me that a loving God would have no reason to hide life-saving information in the forms of crazy riddles that only a few people would understand and the rest would just have to die.
As for Satan trying to take God's throne... that isn't really supported by scripture. Isn't that more JW doctrine.
Logically why would Satan... who is far less powerful than god and who has no ability to destroy god even if everyangel attacked God all at once possibly think he could take his throne? Let's say it wasn't a physical overthrow... what does satan think the other angels will do. Vote God out???
Wouldn't it make sense to you that no one in their right mind especially an extremely intelligent angel would think that there is any possible way that he could take the throne of god??

As far as I can remember from my childhood discussion of this same matter with others (literally when I was a child I had these questions about Satan) I was told that he has no choice but to fulfill these things because it was Jehovah's will. There is no way that he can stop these things from taking place so he plays his role. I guess that makes just as much sense as supposing that a spirit creature that is super-intelligent is not able to understand simple parables that even non-christians can understand.
The logic for the whole setup isn't there for me. What are these old testament riddles. I still am not really familiar with these riddles. The prophecies in the bible are all directly telling what will happen. The other things that we call prophecies years after these books were written seem to only be prophecies and riddles because humans say they are.

So you dont think that Satan can grasp the concept of the Good Samaritan parable??? eventhough my daughter who was like 8 can understand it
