growing up as a jehovahs wittness my parents used to rationalize or have a urban ledgends reguarding why we could not do something or why something was evil/bad.
some of these i have heard in various forms around here in the forums.
here are some expamples of what i mean.
Oh man, do I remember JW urban legends....my mother was really demon sensitive, as far as she is concerned, everything is demonized.......Do you remember the one about the witnesses who went to the door and there was this big dog at the door, and when the JW asked what the dogs name was, the householder replied " Jehovah", and the dog supposedly turned on his owner and killed him......
I used to know more.....I am trying to remember........

well, actually, i did, but with the blessings of the family.
it's fake (too many allergies in the house to risk a real one), pre-lit, and 7 feet tall.
i think it's going to be gorgeous.
I ordered a Tree from QVC, but it is on backorder-hopefully I will receive it soon. My only thing is that I still have family that are JW, and I am afraid to put the tree up! I have been inactive for about 3 years now, but I know if someone saw the decos, I would probably be in trouble. So, I am still trying to figure how I am going to do this. Any advice for me??

over the years, circuit servants and then circuit overseers came and went.
i can only recall a handfull because the rest were unimpressive or i was not real active during the visit of some.
most cos that i recall were humdrum with perhaps some single interesting feature or personality quirk.
I remember Harry Snow too, I grew up in Santa Rosa, CA. where he visited our cong, on several occasions. Also saw him at the Yuba City assembly hall several times. This was all in the early 80s.
i recently enjoyed reading another post on an ex-jw board about how our past experiences as witnesses have shaped our lives and made us who we are.
there is obvious truth to the effect that our past experiences do effect how we see our selves now, but i think many people who leave the borg are still enslaved to the idea that they are the same person they were then.
i disagree and think things are a little more complex than that.

Yes, I just registered a month ago, and placed my first vote in a special election in Oregon. Pretty cool.

I will never forget where I was on that morning. I was still in bed, it was around 6:00 am PT, ( I live in Oregon) and for some reason I could not go back to sleep, so I turned the bedroom TV on to watch Fox News Channel. It was just a normal morning news cast when they suddenly had a news alert that a small plane had apparantley flown into one of the twin towers. Shepard Smith was reporting that morning, and he seemed puzzled as to what had just taken place. No one was sure at that point. He then went back to reporting the regular news. It wasn't too much longer after that when they cut in again to report that something was definetely amiss at the WTC. They began to figure out that it must have been a bigger plane that hit the tower. The most haunting memory I have is laying there watching the live pictures of the towers being broadcast from a helicopter hovering around them. I noticed in the distance what looked like a giant airliner coming towards the towers. I thought to myself, "what is that huge plane doing flying that low"? I guess Shepard Smith did not notice it, because he never commented. Within seconds I knew something was really weird, and right at that point I saw that plane screaming by and the first thing I did was say " Oh my God!!" Just then there was a huge fireball out of the other tower. I flew out of bed realizing that our country was under attack. I called all my relatives and told them to turn on the TV.
I may be 3000 miles away, but it was still horrifying to watch, and to see it as it was happening.
So sad. My thoughts are with the families of the victims of 9/11.

i have a question, though, if the society is not paying the governing body, or other "big wigs" in ny large salaries, what would be the motivating factor for the society to continue to exist?
i am not saying that money is everything, but if none of the money is going into pockets, then the society must really feel that they are god's chosen channel, or something to that effect.

This has really been puzzling me, because their has to be some motivating factor for it to keep going, even in the face of all the negative publicity the JWs have been receiving lately.
