  the first seder of passover will be celebrated at sundown on wednesday, 27 march, 2002. the society will not celebrate the memorial until sundown, 28 march, 2002. once again they are a whole day off.

  Has the WTS ever said EXACTLY, how they calculate the
  date for the memorial?

  For such an important event, the method of determination
  should be made known to all, but perhaps they think the
  details of the calculation are too complicated for the
  average person.

  Book: A People for His Name by Timothy White

  one of the best histories of jehovah's witnesses is the book _a people for his name_ by timothy white, published by vantage press in 1967. the book had a very small printing and as far as i know was never republished.

  at the time of its writing the author was a jw in good standing.

  m. james penton gives white high marks in _apocalypse delayed_.

  There IS a "T. White" listing for Bend, OR.

  A geophysicist looks at the "Life" book

  i was going through some files on my computer tonight and discovered something i wrote a few years back for an elder serving as a congregation po who claimed he was trained as a geologist (fat chance of that when i actually started asking him questions he didn't even know the basics) and claimed that the societies life book was a very scientific and comprehensive piece of work.

  in fact, he claimed that if i could show otherwise, he would use the information in a public talk he was giving that related to the subject.

  i blew him off at first because this is just about the same odds of winning the lottery but he kept after me and then taunting me that i had no answer for him.

  Lloyds Refuses To Insure WTS

  er...i got this.. london, nov 15 (reuters) - lloyd's of london, the global insurance market, said on thursday it will not quote for several risks proposed to them by the watchtower bible tract society(wts).. the 300 year old insurance market, facing its biggest ever single loss of 1.3 billion pounds ($1.87 billion) from the november 11th attacks on the world trade centre has apparently adopted a safety first approach.. a lloyds representative said we were prepared to quote for their buildings insurance but there were certain aspects of the deal we could not entertain.

  he added they wanted us to insure them against the financial consequences of making false prophecies.

  we were advised that this may not be viable in view of the past history.

  Why the Dinosaur in the Green NWT Bible?

  bibles is a map, and in the map is a drawing of a dinosaur.. does anyone know why the dinosaur is there?.

  this is something i have actually wondered about for years.. perhaps someone here might know the answer.. --vm44

  went over to a disassociated witnesses house the other night,.

  former org hatchet man,now as violently opposed to the org as he was, once, enslaved by them.. hes talkin "raymond franz says this...franz says that" all night.. it made me sick to my guts.. franz was pure borg heirachy, born and bred to power.. now hes opposed (if he aint dead by now)and these ex borg mind slaves are still listening to the guy like hes a repository of truth.. im not attacking ray franz,hes probably a nice guy,im just floating an idea.

  what is a free mind?.

  Ed,

  you make some good points about people doing their own research,
  not relying upon the words of someone else.

  But consider this, the people at the bottom of a cult do not know
  what is going on, or why decisions are being made by the higher ups.
  They do not know the personalities of the ones in charge.

  As an example, we do not have many first hand examples of how
  Rutherford behaved. The only exception is Schnell's book, 30
  Years a Watchtower Slave, and that book is subject certain
  criticism in itself. The only other comments about Rutherford are
  from close associates in the Watchtower, most of them underlings,
  who praise Rutherford up and down as being kindly, having the
  interest of the brothers in mind, etc.

  I think the best thing is for a person to read, read and then read
  some more, then evaluate what he reads to make his own conclusions.

  The Days of 1975

  many of us have pounded the watchtower publications a lot for their 1975 predictions, and the general attitdue among jws as the society pushed the last few months or even weeks before armageddon - as 1975 approached.

  what we have not mentioned too much is what the jw culture was like, and how we all saw world events lining up to bring forth the war of the great day of god the almighty at har-megeddon!.

  late 1960s: as we wrapped up the decade of the 60s, we had witnessed three major political assassinations, the stepping up of the endless viet nam war, the social rebellion of the hippies, the loss of usa national and international respect, declining economy, irrelevancy in many mainline churches, the drug culture, college riots everywhere, and civil rights movement -- all of these -- nearly splitting our nation apart.

  Hi Amazing,

  Good post...I remember the pre-1975 days....the elders and
  everyone were so sure that the year 1975 was IT.

  You mentioned that the media site still has pictures of the
  World Trade Center up. Could you provide an address for it?
  I could not find it, and would like to read what they are
  saying....Thanks.
