Heaven, hopefully your words made a deep impression on their thinking....

having a rant to myself this morning and this phrase my old dad used to say came to mind:.
"self praise is no recommendation".. and i thought that self praise is exactly what jehovah's witnesses hear regularly.. we all remember hearing how loving, kind, godlike etc we were, as jehovah's witnesses.. yet all of that is self praise.
being on the outside now, gives us the freedom to consult what other sources say, and we now.

many on this board are still in and have all the literature.
do you read all your books regularly?
do you have old magazines that you have underlined and still keep?
Wish I had been more aware of how far-reaching the changes were, I would have carefully kept a few books. Think I was still too disgusted with them at the time to have anything of theirs with my name inside the cover.
last year i decided to attend the memorial.
i came in last minute and ended up sitting at the end of the row.
when the symbols were passed out they skipped me and gave to the person next to me.
And the weirdness just gets weirder...
do members of the congregation usually have a meal together after the memorial?
does the fact that my wife has decided not to travel across town to her filipino congregation and is going to the local one instead and wants to be picked up when it finishes at 8 pm mean that she hasn't been invited to a meal with her filipino congregation and that she is being socially excluded by them?
i think this is good news but i don't want her to get caught up with the local congregatin because i don't want them coming around to pressure her to attend when she is irregular.
Although in some locations every meeting night is an occasion to go out afterwards, usually food and beer.
In the southern US, baptists get criticized for building lovely outdoor picnic facilities so they may fellowship, but the jw criticizers do lots of fellowshipping at Chili's and Applebee's and similar local eateries.
I know quite a few jws who go out to eat and drink at 10:00pm rather than being "balanced" and going home for a good night's rest.
i ran across a facebook site entitled "ask a jehovah's witness anything.".
it seems to be run by jw elders for jws and studies who are seeking information about "the truth.".
they don't want apostates there or wt bashing.. i wonder if some people here would like to go to that site and ask questions.. of course, it would be easy to say stuff there that would get you banned.. i think the challenge would be to be respectful and see how long they will tolerate genuine questions.. i don't know how much follow-up they will allow.. of course, if you're fading, that's not a place to post.. .
ROFL!!!!!!!!
interesting comment box from a 2012 wt mag...found this when looking for something else.
.
sure, "they realize that when a child becomes an adult, he or she will make a personal choice with regard to worship" but if their decision is to not be a jw, they are cut off from their family.. talk about deception, these guys are masterful... .

i seem to think it was a november wt issue but can't remember precisely, but it was probably printed within the last three years.
after being told for years and years that everyone not a jw would be destroyed, this was amazing to see in print!
yet when i pointed it out to others, they just shrugged it off and left me wondering what i was missing.... does this ring a bell with anyone?.
Any chance that digital articles might be different from those originally published?

I've pulled all the mags around the Feb 2012 Armageddon issue and haven't located it yet...but I'm going to keep looking. Part of the reason it made such an impression was that some elders commented on it in a social setting.
(looking for my Sherlock cap....)

No, don't think I remember that! This was just a statement at the very end of an article...actually it may have been in the magazine with Armageddon yada yada on the cover.
