Many on this board are still in and have all the literature. If that is you please let us know. Do you read all your books regularly? Do you have old magazines that you have underlined and still keep? I would be interested if this is you.

Have you left, but keep the literature because family members are still in?Many like to keep upto date with current thoughts but still keep all their literature. If this is you, why do you keep it?

I have left now, my son still goes with his dad, my daughter left just before me. I have just binned two shelves of old WT literature, the bin men are coming tomorrow. I feel this is one step to moving forward. I wanted to keep it all, but I could not come up with a good enough explaination to keep it. I feel cleaner and more free of WT binds.

I feel if I need to keep upto date with what my son is learning at meetings, I can find it on jw.org. There are many threads on this forum highlighting the dangerous doctrines and articles. So I can help him critically think about what he is learning. He told me a few months ago he is an atheist, he also told me that what the speaker said about DFing at the assembly was hypocritical. At the moment I think he is mentally out. Sadly I have had no direct contact with him since January. I just hope he doesn't become a publisher again and get baptised before he is 18.

Have you thrown out all your literature? How long after you left did it take for you to do it?

All my WT publications went to the dumpster when I moved to a new house. My still JW wife wanted to keep the books but I told her the older books contained the information that drove me away from the JW...she only kept current books and the CDs.

I keep some stuff not on the CD-ROM or accessible electronically. I keep what are considered historical or 'family heirlooms.' We've got rid of a lot of lit., though, for reasons of room. Despite my protests, one of my relatives threw out all the single copy Watchtowers and Awakes collected over many decades because they were moving. There were some collectors' items in there, copies that were of historical/doctrinal interest - all now rotting on a dump.

My parents have all publications from at least 1960-2009. I will be going through these and will be keeping some key items.

I personally kept the red "Your Youth" book (which is one that pissed me off as a teenager) as well as "My Book of Bible Stories", and the "Truth that Leads to Eternal Life" books both the original and the revised editions. If I can find it I plan to also keep the orange "Paradise Lost" book.

The reason to keep old pubs is to have the actual documentation of Botchtower BS. So when someone fresh in the Borg says "Oh they didn't say that." you can show them otherwise.

NVR2L8, Good point that you told your wife the old books were the things that made you doubt, it's nice to have a fresh start when you move house. Good for you that you remained married, you show those who are still in because of family that things can work out. Well done for leaving. Kate xx

Exactly! One of the reasons I keep my stuff.

Wish I had been more aware of how far-reaching the changes were, I would have carefully kept a few books. Think I was still too disgusted with them at the time to have anything of theirs with my name inside the cover.

That's a good idea to keep the odd watchtower article if you have family you are trying to wake up. I suppose it could be worth some money too. All my mags only dated back to 2005 so nothing there really valuable.
