I heard stories about those breaks and was a bit jealous myself...in our rural kh, the eldubs "encouraged" us not to step outside during the meetings, even if we had a little one who was not feeling so happy about being cooped up in a stuffy hall. The sanctioned breaks would have been welcome!

How many remember the 15 min break Between the Public Tlk and WT Study?
by Wasanelder Once inas kid i remember a break of 15 minutes between the public talk and the wt study.

Maybe if one of the gb or wts leaders was related to a famous evangelist who counseled US presidents, we would see their names and photos in major newspapers as they are sued by the abused jws. For now, those stories sadly and wrongfully never seem big enough to gain national exposure.

Fake friends and other things that annoy me about the Kingdom Hall
by MysticMage init was easy to figure people out.
as long as you got out in service and put money in the money box people will pretend to be your "friend".. but let's be honest is most of business associates.
they are your friends as long as you are active doing the watchtower bidding.. and then let's talk about the lack of hot women.

It is so obviously a lie......now
by snare&racket inonce the spell is broken, one you take a deep fresh breath outisde of the watchtower camp, the amazingly obvious realisation becomes clear.... of course this is a lie, of course this is ridiculous!
you find you have memories of really believing the claims and promises, but it seems like another life, another experience.
it seems so incredibly false once you leave and it is very difficult to belive you even once accepted it!

Snare, absolutely wonderful post.
The Watchtower literally promise the earth, perfect health, no death, to be young again, to see the dead again....they go for every human want and fear. Who wouldn't want it? ...true. But to have it.... everyone else has to.....die.
And therein lies the problem. Thankfully, those of us here just couldn't do it anymore. How many could not bear the thought of innocent people being slain? Those illustrations showing cheerful families turning their backs on millions being slaughtered......is immoral. Let's hope many more are disturbed by those thoughts and walk away to a better life.

Is it just maybe possible that someone, somewhere, is having a good laugh because they made the apostates turn on each other?
In all fairness, even though I apologized for being judgmental because I swayed to public opinion, this person sounded like a born-in jw with years of jw-speak in their vocabulary.
And yes, I heard for 20+ years that the YMCA was baaaaaaadddddd. Same as Salvation Army (it was okay to shop at Goodwill, though.) And never any GS cookies....never...and I used to love thin mints.

Grieving in JW Land
by cultBgone inwhile experiencing a seemingly annual time of grief over the deaths of my sister and mom, a few other posters mentioned they experienced similar episodes linked to family deaths.
i've known some in my jw family who have this shared experience as well.. i know that grief as an emotion must be dealt with, that is, allowed to happen and be experienced, or we end up stuffing the emotions inside ourselves.
and any emotions we've stuffed and hidden will always try to get out in the body's normal course of healing itself.

Thank you for the kind words. I apparently failed to put into words the message I intended To write. I'm not going through this right now, but have had this discussion with other ex dubs and thought I'd put it out to share. And perhaps this his is something that women experience more than men, I don't know.
But my thought was that the borg trains us not to have strong emotions but to fall back on their platitudes about the resurrection, paradise, and "they brought it on themselves." I guess it's like emotional cognitive dissonance.
