The Real Reason For No More Bookstudies.
by ctrwtf inso i was just thinking about my days at wtf and driving out for book study when it dawned on me.. bethelites are given a stipend for travel based on nyc public transportation.
depending on how you pay let's just call it a $5.00 round trip.. if you drive your care you're also reimbursed for mileage at the standard irs rate.
let's round that down to .50 per mile.. if four bethelites get in a car and drive an average of 30 miles to the (former) bookstudy the society is spending 4x$5.00 for the stipend plus and additional $30.00 for mileage.

I think it was for both monetary and control reasons. We actually used to sit around and discuss things after the book study...but you can't do that at a kh. Toe the party line, people...and put (y)our money in the coffers.

shunning within the family.
by bigmac ini'm giving 3 examples of this practice--that i know of personally.. .
my first wife--born in--divorced me over 30 years ago.
she totally shuns our son--now 38--d/f'd and now happily married and enjoying life to the max.. my pioneer partner--from the mid 60's-----he totally shuns his daughter---to the point of even ignoring her in the street.. a close friend of mine--in the 60's and 70's-----i was best man at his wedding.

A must to be MS?
by crazyhorse inso is it a must and an absolute requirement to be a ministerial servant in the org?.
i was told that if i refuse an appointment as an ms then it means i'm opposing "jehovah's call to service".

But you cannot be da'd or df'd for turning it down. They are just trying to pressure you to do What They Want, not What's Best For You. They don't really care about you but they always want more unpaid labor to light their workload.
It's your life, not theirs. HUGS to you!

this is a video from 1990 that waas posted about four years ago on randy watter's youtube channel.
it's long but reveals the emotions one experiences as they wake up and realize how much they've been misled and lied to by the organization who claimed to represent god.. thankfully jennifer's dad never gave up trying to give her a rewarding and fulfilling life.

My Story: from JW Elder to Born Again Christian to Agnostic
by passwordprotected ini first posted here on 3rd june 2008. at the time i was an elder, appointed the previous october, i was 36 and i was a born-in.
at the time i'd become disillusioned with the society due to the governing body's letter explaining why the book study in private homes was being abolished.
april 2008 saw me start questioning this decision, privately of course, and this eventually led me to this site, to jwfacts and to many youtube videos, all of which began to errode my faith in the leaders of the organisation.. in july 2008, having discussed my doubts with my wife, i attended the district convention, deciding to give the society one last chance to convince me it was the truth.

PWP, thanks so much for sharing your journey with us. Much of what you said resonates with me also, notably about having to learn that we ARE worthy of everything wonderful in life. The Power of Now was immensely helpful to me, and may I also recommend The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer?
Meanwhile, I need to get off my butt and start my yoga journey...

Please help....in a dilemma..
by crazyhorse inplease help with this: when i was in college, there was a lot of talk about university and how all who pursue that are wasting their time and all that.
even before going to uni, there was a lot of pressurr on me concerning my decision.
during that time, two elders sat with me for appointment as ms and asked me if i have freedom of speech in the org since i'm going to uni and i said no.

Crazyhorse...stay focused on making a real life for yourself, even though at present you are with your family and are subjected to their wishes.
Settle this issue in YOUR mind, that you don't wish to ever be a MS, and make your peace with that thought. It's important to hold your own core principles that guide you no matter what others pressure you to do. You know TTATT and realize that accepting any appointment is the same thing as willingly placing your foot in an animal trap. Even if you manage to free yourself, you will always bear more pain and scars by succumbing to their pressure and pleadings. Remember they are not pressuring you to improve your life, but to improve theirs.
Borrowing from a US campaign to keep people off drugs: JUST SAY NO. Then go on about your life, knowing that they may well pester you but you never, never have to give in.
