If Someone Mocks Jehovah's Witnesses Does That Bother You?

i don't think that's a good way to reach them..

2014: do you see Witnesses ramping up activity? What will the aftermath be in 2015?
by JimmyPage injw's often say they don't serve with any dates in mind.
but the fact is many of them can't fathom why the end just hasn't come yet.
since 2014 marks 100 years of invisible rule many witnesses can't help but think this has some special meaning.

My sister urged pushed me to study and get baptized in the early 1990s...because if I didn't my children would die at armageddon, which was coming any day now! She has since passed away. Somehow the world doesn't seem as scary as it did back then...except that I no longer have my retirement funds and will be working till I'm 66 just to keep my head above water.

LisaRose, so sorry to hear about your brother's illness. Must be extremely hard on his wife as well, so good that your siblings are providing support to them. (((hugs)))
ScarySherry, I agree...shopping alone is always easy. Even on the rare occasion my adult child goes with me, we split up at the front door of the store and then have to text each other when we're ready to check out.
BOTR, I've been told that the best way to ripen pears is to place them inside a brown paper bag and leave them for a few days...seems to work, I use small brown paper lunch bags from Whole Foods.
Yesterday...spent entirely too many hours digging a new flower garden, now I need to drag the full 30 gallon trash can out of the yard as I was too tired to do it last evening. Although I really need to leave for work...guess I'll be out there again this evening. The plants look good, still have lots of work to do in the yard but it was a great day of digging in the dirt and giving them a new home. Hoping to have the backyard enjoyable for summertime entertaining!

Emeth, I think it's wonderful that you are fluent in four languages! Did you grow up in a multi-lingual household?

Currently reading CoC and re-reading Slaughterhouse 5 as I was a huge Vonnegut fan in high school (back when we had dinosaurs for pets). Have ordered Journey to God's House and will start the the evening it arrives.
Recently read:
Zeitoun by Dave Eggers - true story of a Muslim family caught between America's "war on terror"/anti-Muslim prejudice and the aftermath/destruction/military presence in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Great read, hard to put down.
Daring Greatly by Brene Brown - shows us how being vulnerable/open allows us to have a much richer life - also how to raise your kids to see the world as full of possibilities/opportunities - that it's not wrong to fail, only wrong not to try
Also various parts of the IRS code for my job...

The Scriptural Meeting JW's Don't Have
by metatron indo you ever read in your bible about a "service meeting"?
how about the "theocratic ministry school"?.
the society has to reach back into the ot to justify its assemblies and conventions, as with national holidays in ancient israel.. yet, there is no official modern-day version of this:.

All the Baptist churches where we once lived had lovely permanent outdoor picnic areas for summer gatherings and many held potlucks every week, weather permitting. Others went to grandma's house after church every Sunday and shared a meal...
How lovely, really. The only time we jws could do this is when we volunteered to host the speaker's family, and usually they preferred to be taken to a restaurant.
I'll never forget the time we hosted a local elder and his family, and promptly after we ate they said they needed to leave because a group was going to the movies. We weren't invited to the movies, however. Thanks so much...not.

Story of a friend that woke up.
by Crazyguy inits kinda funny that about a year ago this friend went to my elders and turned me in for asking and maybe stating a few things to him that i guess made him feel unconfertable.
but over this same time his mate was sleeping around and he has been in the truff for 55 years roughly, born-in.
we continued to work together and i keep my mouth shut.

Crazyguy, please communicate our love and (((hugs))) to your friend. He obviously outed you thinking he was doing the right thing and it's really sad that his marriage is toast, but we know that he's suffering and everyone on this site is compassionate toward him. Please be sure he knows how to login and meet all of us who understand the pain.

Premarital sex--how prevalent?
by wafflesandpancakes inin my old congregation, everyone seems clean.
mostly chaste courtship, kingdom hall wedding, blah blah.. well there are lots of cases of fondling but they were soon forgotton.
when my husband and i confessed to sex before marriage, the elders were disgusted.

You know, having some man with the title of "elder" question you and your prospective mate as to whether you have inappropriately touched each other is really perverse. Oh! It's okay if you did but you just have to have your ceremony at the Holiday Inn instead of the KH.
So anyone who thought, hey, let's not make everyone drive all over two counties to go from the ceremony to the reception, let's have both at the Holiday Inn Convention Center....they were considered to have touched each other inappropriately, when all they really did was try to save everyone from inconvenience.
Nice.
Wait.... there ARE no rules, right? Only principles. Gosh, what was I thinking?? Now I've confused myself.

Well you have to admit that the jokes by tv comedians and late night talk show hosts are pretty funny!
I do think once you disconnect you have a different perspective. If this forum only exists to help others leave, then of course no one should mock jws.
But if this forum is a SAFE gathering place for those who understand or are starting to understand TTATT, then mockery of jws must not be criticized. After all, the WT org did amazing amounts of damage to thousands, maybe millions of families and individuals. It's understandable that some would mock, make fun of, or simply smack them down.
Play fair. Show love. Be kind, rewind.

Emeth, don't know why but without that add-on it would not allow cut-and-paste to this site only. Could be some security settings...
