Mrs OT, Welcome to JWN! (((hugs)))
Many of us lurked for ages until the time was right to jump in and post. And I imagine there are many lurkers who never post! No matter, you're still a part of a supportive, loving, and mostly non-judgmental community here (we are still working on our true new personalities!).

One of the dumbest - even nastiest - JW Facebook posts I've seen!
by nicolaou inlast month a british teacher was tragically stabbed to death in the classroom.
today a member of my extended jw family posts this; check out his 'liked' comment.. .
where do you even begin .

@Steve2, I only deduced a lack of compassion from the noticeable lack of comments such as "I'm so glad she's alright!"
The posting and the comments are the usual jw-speak of "look how terrible the world is getting" and "can't wait for it to end". The focus is all doom-and-gloom negativity.
Has nothing to do with someone checking the Like box, it's the tone of the messages. That's all.

NZ Watch Tower Society closed down
by Viva la Vida ini've just found out this in the charity registry of new zealand.. the watch tower society of nz closed down, not just bethel (that was sold some time ago), but the legal entity.
they have another entity in nz, but this one was the owner of bethel.
http://www.register.charities.govt.nz/charitiesregister/viewcharity?accountid=4f83a20c-d2a7-dc11-8026-0015c5f3da29&searchid=68f4a5cb-67fd-41f2-b8c9-5339d0304b4d.

Don't have a clue, would like to know the details.
Thought the original registration info quite bizarre also:
- Activities
- (Provides religious services / activities), Sponsors / undertakes research, Acts as an umbrella / resource body, Provides services (e.g. care / counselling), Provides advice / information / advocacy, Provides other finance (e.g. investment funds), Provides buildings / facilities / open space
- Beneficiaries
- (General public), Children / young people, Other charities, Older people, People with disabilities, Religious groups, Children / young people, Children / young people
- So the WTBTS of New Zealand provided "finance" activities such as "investment funds" but if that's matched to the Beneficiaries, only Religious groups benefitted. Nice cover up.
- And those who benefitted from all the other research and counseling and advice were the Children, Young People, those with Disabilities and Older People.
- Good lord.

One of the best articles published on shunning, really well-done journalism.
We should all forward this to our hometown newspapers with encouragement to do local follow-ups!

I think the point is that there is no compassion show whatsoever! jws just use any tragedy to say "sign of the times" and "come on, armageddon, let's get rid of everyone but us".

Suggestion for JWFacts
by ILoveTTATT ini have a suggestion for jwfacts, and to help make the article easier to write for paul, the collective jwn community can help.. in his article of "religions similar to jehovah's witnesses",.
http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/similar-religions-to-jehovahs-witnesses.php.
paul uses mormons, cristadelphians, etc.... i suggest he also use iglesia ni cristo.

From Wikipedia:
The church's founder Felix Manalo was born to a catholic family but studied with Seventh Day Adventists and became a pastor. His second wife was a deaconess in the SDA. They became disillusioned with the Sabbath obsservance and started their own church which is known by its initials INC. Interestingly, it was registered with the government in 1914. (That SDA background explains the parallel teachings as that's where Russell found them.) However, Manalo's family still runs the show...his grandson is Executive Minister. The national historical society erected a statue of him at his birthplace and the president of the Philippines designated July 27 (the date in 1914 on which the religion was registered) as national INC day so all its followers can observe the "solemn day".
