DD, you've received some great advice here. Let me add to it: give yourself a break. YOU are not accountable for your wife's happiness, that's her problem. YOU are only accountable for You, and for your daughter getting out of the cult. You may do better withdrawing (call it depression or whatever) to allow yourself some down time. You need to sleep! And you're going to need to decide upon your exit strategy. Obviously you cannot keep up appearances for much longer and it's probably causing your wife to respond to your negative feelings. Perhaps if you were at home and more peaceful, she would respond in kind. In any event, you can't save your daughter without putting on YOUR oxygen mask first.

A few thoughts on the District, um, Regional... sigh....
by Apognophos ini don't even know what the bloody event is called anymore.
i think it's still a district convention until it goes to two days, isn't it?
my convention program leaflet just says "convention of jehovah's witnesses", seemingly intentionally avoiding the change in wording.

Thanks for the blow-by-blow and for suffering so many of us never have to again! It is reassuring to know that the conventions are continuing to get worse/more boring/sleepworthy even than when I had to attend for the fam. Sorry you had to go but you did us all a good service.

New "theocratic history" book for witnesses?
by stuckinarut2 inso i have heard a few of us talking about a newly released book to replace or add to the proclaimers book?.
is that correct?.
if so, i wonder how much they have re-written history to cover the real truths?.

Factfinder, just imagine what all the "worldly" publishers could produce IF THEY HAD SLAVE LABOR WORKING FOR THEM!
The wts is like a plantation owner bragging over the crops he never lifted a finger to produce. Oh, and did I tear apart your families? Too bad. Oh, did you get injured? You're of no use to me now.
Bragging rights for the wts are broken families, leagues of pedophiles safely protected from the law but not the kiddies, and lost lives who never reached their potential. Brag on that.

Being a JW Used to Be Fun :-)
by snowbird inwe found some people who were happy to welcome us into their homes, even offering us food and drink.. sometimes, they would flag us down and ask for the magazines, walk miles to the kh meetings, come to our defense if someone got ugly or rude.. now, jw's are either routinely ignored or outright vilified.. no one respects them anymore.. sad.. .

Sure, the picnics were fun at times. And things seemed more wholesome and innocent back then. But wan't that true in the world at large? Most folks were innocent of many realities of the world like genocides in foreign countries, babies dying of starvation, girls and women being raped with cultural permission, etc. And now we have news 24/7 and the world is a different place. Every generation says the same thing. But now we have more knowledge and more choices. Many have more freedoms than they did decades ago.
BUT let's not forget that many jw wives were/are being beaten at home with no choice to leave. Many jw children were/are being molested in their own homes by men in their "happy" jw congregations. I have family members in their 50s who still talk of the molestation they suffered. They remember the picnics and gatherings as opportunities to hookup/escape with other teens who were miserable and wanted out so badly but had no place to turn. There are multiple Generations of exjw teens who were frustrated and hopeless who have been lovingly counseled and assisted disfellowshipped in groups by the elders. So not only were they harmed growing up, they lost their family connections and were tossed to the curb. Today more just lead double lives and don't tell. But they have more choices when they leave and many are faders.
Any activity in which you're invested 100%, when everyone around you constantly reassures you that you are Right and Wonderful and so is your future...sure, that's gonna feel good. But being a jw is living in LaLaLand. It's not reality. For many the reality of being a jw was hell.
Once you know reality, those "fun" jw memories come with a price.

by besunny inso my folks went to the meeting today and somehow i got brought up and they gave them my address so they can call on me because i'm inactive,i am upset about it because they didn't ask me first,i told my parents i wish they hadn't of done that without asking me first and my dad's response was are you not baptised?
and i said yes when i was 17 and i don't want to talk to anyone (i'm 51 now) and want to avoid any discussions that may cause me to lose my relationships with family that is still in,,so now i feel my successful fade will be jeapordized.

BeSunny, the bright spot is that you KNOW about it! Forewarned is fore-armed and all that...so you won't be blindsided at the door at least. Now you know to be cautious for the time the COs in town and you have time to prepare your responses.
Poor old dad thinks he is saving you all over again, just doing what he's been brainwashed to believe.
