My American grandfather was very prejudiced against blacks - he would talk about how blacks "smelled" and he would hold his breath around them. I'm embarrassed to tell this, but it's true.
My Canadian family never agreed with him, but there was no arguing with him, it would have just led to fights and friction. I always viewed him as a product of his times. I just always hoped that his prejudice would die with him.
the natick, ma assemble hall used to have it's own room for breastfeeding mothers.
they changed this room to the accounting room or something like that and now have seats available for breastfeeding inside the bathroom.. there is one other small room available for breastfeeding but they close that off when the baptism is going on.
needless to say, i used to get so pissed off that they actually wanted me to breastfeed in the bathroom that i would threaten to a brother that i would take my boob out in front of everybody and that is there problem because breastfeeding in a bathroom is unsanitary.. one year they put me in some backroom.
I found myself nursing with at least 4 or more moms at at time. It was a real gabfest. More like a nursury school than a cult meeting.......... I'm sure tales of this enjoyable association eventually got back to Brooklyn. They put a screeching halt to it.
LOLOLOL That was my experience, too. Our hall had a separate nursing room, off the bathroom. I don't think they build them like that any more.
We mostly just gabbed and let the babies play on the floor, turned the sound off or down real low from the main hall.
I wouldn't be surprised if Brooklyn found out about it going on and ix-nayed any other "mother's rooms" for future hall builds.
i have had my own power of attorney drawn up and sent to my non jw family to void out my old card.
but now the society is pretty much forcing the issue on everyone with the emergency contact information (witchhunt) gathering drive every year and basically not taking a no for an answer fill it ot or get pulled in back.
well i am giving them the big fu this time i filling their card out but listng my non jw family on it as the contact and then filling yet another power of attornty to void out their stupid card again..
They can't say it's a personal choice to refuse blood, if they are chasing people around and forcing them to produce signed copies of the card.

I was one who just read for a long time before posting. At first, I noticed there was a lot of almost pentecostal types posting. While I want to keep my spirituality, I dont' want to get sucked into another cult. I don't know what happened and I don't really care, but I'm glad there's less pentecostal types and more rational thinking and discussion.

I just have to add one final thing to those posters who claim everyone is beating down the doors to come to America. Um…no. Many, many people have absolutely no interest in living in the US. I think that’s a fallacy that has been perpetuated to support the myth that America is the best place in the world to live.
That is true. I am living in the US, taking advantage of their depressed housing and economic economy. And the nicer weather.
But, honestly, I love the Americans. I have been treated nothing but friendly and welcoming. But our real estate broker did say there are tons of international investors in the US right now. So the US people may have to get used to a more international flavour in their country.......
But I try to fit in with their culture. I feel like a visitor in a country that is not mine, so I try to fit in.

i know an elder who's a chiropractor and he generously gives $400-800 a month to the society.
I stopped donating regularly many years ago - when our Kingdom Hall was renovated and I noticed irregularities with the numbers. No one could or would answer my questions about it. I've been a business woman and that is NOT how business is done. I knew right away something was up.

Simon: If this is true then they are abusing the spam system - they are not intended to be a "retaliation-service" to harrass people when you don't like someone's opinion.
If they did that, it's a really mean thing to do. Reporting someone's IP address and having it blacklisted prevents those people from commenting on other sites, too.
