Hi Imogenne,
Welcome to the board... Thanks for the quotes you found from the WTBTS literature..
Here is one I like.. It's a full page advertisement that the WT placed in the New York Times on July 5, 1998 addressed to the "President of France" trying to persuade him not to tax the WTBTS claiming that it's because of religious freedom...
Notice the paragraph that begins "Human rights violated"...
Contrast that to your quote from the WT:
"Subsequently, in its December 15, 1929 issue, on page 374,
The Watchtower definitively said: “The whole tendency of the
League of Nations is to turn the people away from God and from
Christ, and it is therefore a desolating thing, the product of
satan, and an abomination in the sight of God.” So in 1919 “the
disgusting thing” appeared. In time, the League gave way to the
United Nations. Jehovah’s Witnesses have long exposed these
human peace organizations as disgusting in God’s sight.
….this beast is supported by world rulers. "
I guess you can turn people away from god and towards the Human Peace organization as long as it suites your material needs (saving about $60Million dollars in Tax money)...
Who would have thunk that God's organization was sooo materialistic?
Oh, and another interesting side note.. The JW's certainly do not accept any of the other "Chrisitan" religions as real Christian.. But, man, when it suits their needs, they certainly have no problem lumping themselves in with the rest of "Christendom"...
Again, thanks for the quotes, and welcome to the board!!!
