  Tally, my man! Great writing and amusing style.

  As someone who has tried to stay far enough away from the recent flame wars engulfing the sight that her eyebrows wouldn't get singed, I regret I'm beginning to feel some heat.

  I don't belong to anyone's camp, fan club, or "class". Many of the folks posting here have become my friends, in a very real sense of that word. I count you among them, and I hope you feel the same way about me. As your friend, I've got to say I think you have a wrong impression about COMF. I can understand why his words about aggression stung you, but since then he's sincerely tried to explain what he meant and move on.

  As for myself, I have found some of your posts do have an element of in-your-face, as do Kent's, JanH's, Focus', and even the loveable Uncle Bruce. If I were to point that out, I hope none of these fine gentlemen would take offense at it.

  Some of us don't have the freedom to reveal our identities yet. This does not mean we are hiding or cowards, only that we are making choices we feel are best right now.

  Come on, my friend Tally...let's all hug and make up, OK? Give El Capitan another chance?

  A bible study? Me? Well... okay!

  i'm gearing up to get out of this protected, "inaccessible" apartment complex with its remote-cammed, sensor-driven gate and security patrol.

  i'm moving to a house.

  one in a residential neighborhood, with other houses around and a 7-11 on the corner and a mall a few blocks away and couples on saturday walking very slowly carrying bookbags.. i was reading roamingfeline's post, "do you know how to wait," in which she described an encounter with a new, nervous witness.

  Great idea. Unfortunately, like Mulan, my house seems to be "marked". Last Sunday, a clear almost-summer day, my daughter, her friend, and I sat out in the front yard in our shorts and tank-tops enjoying the sun. We noticed a car-group park down the street and get out. They called on every house except ours! I even waved to them as they walked by and said "hello". I didn't recognize any of them - many new families have moved into our hall since I stopped going - but they must have known who I was.

  I guess unless I move (not likely), I won't have a chance to conduct such a reverse Bible study.

  Hi everyone....

  as i sit in front of my computer in a drunken stupor wondering what might have been, i felt i had to post my story to those who might truly understand what i am going through.. i am a newbie here, but have been lurking around for the last few weeks.

  i am 25 years old, from ontario, and totally heartbroken.. to give you some background, back in 1998, i studied with the witnesses because some friends of mine, whom i believe to be honest and sincere people, gave me (i thought at the time) some good advice to start a book study.

  i did, and i really enjoyed it because i felt they presented everything factually and had a strong interpretation of the scriptures (i'm a facts man, you see).

  It is late as I write this and I wish I had the energy to give a better response. For now, let me tell you I am glad you had the courage to post. What you're going through is difficult, but you are not alone. Stick around and let those who have "been there, done that" lend some support.

  I don't think it has a name, even in the big Crayola box. It's the color of the ocean when the waves break over rocks and the sun is behind it, just before sinking into the horizon. It takes my breath away.

  prisca posts that the nitpickin' posts are suckin' up all the space, attention, time, etc.

  here.. joel says we're sinking to the lowest common denominator.

  and seems ready to throw in the towel.. that would be a shame.. if we're really going to be self-regulating, we could always pull the fat out of the fire here by refusing to be baited by the trolls, the "playground bullies" of the board, the so-called active jws spoiling for a fight, and anything else that serves to disturb our domestic tranquility.

  I have to agree. If I am allowed to talk about how it feels to have my first kiss, then these guys are allowed to do and say whatever they feel, including ripping each other to shreds in public if that is what they want to do.

  I certainly have stretched the bounds by discussing what I want to discuss here. So, in the end, I have to retract my objections and admit I was wrong.

  On every mountain high, let freedom ring.

  last night in chat, just as i was about to log off and go to bed, a person unknown to me came in.

  i did not recognize the name, so i introduced myself.

  with me in chat was another new person, who identified him/her-self as a 19 yr old da'd person on the east coast (us).. after the initial introductions, the new person stated he/she was a therapist working with a troubled 15 yr old witness girl who wanted to quit the religion over the objections of her mother.

  It's been 24 hours and no e-mail. I hate being so cynical, but I'm afraid I may have been duped again. If the person using the name "Steve88" would care to post, many here can help you. I repeat, if you took some sick pleasure in manipulating my sympathies last night, shame on you.

  I'll err on the side of caring any time. I can't stop caring about people, no matter how many times I am deceived. I'll live with it.

  WT & Awake Subscription Procedure

  i moved into a new area several months ago, and my subscriptions to the watchtower and awake magazines expired.

  (note: i'm baaad, not attending meetings in my new area.).

  so it'd be easy to renew my subscription, right?

  Recently, I saw an article in my daughter's June or July KM about a "Simplified Subscription Arrangement." I had borrowed her car to run an errand and the KM was in the front seat, so I had a chance to glance at it. From what little I remember, the "new arrangement" had to do with all subscriptions going through the KH and no renewal slips would be placed in the magazines. When a subscription is expiring, the local congregation will be notified so the householder can be contacted.

  I noticed the same thing with the magazine wrapper: "only one issue remaining", and hoped to find a way to renew without having the dreaded call. I really think they are trying to keep the magazines out of the hands of apostates. I wonder what they are afraid of?

  After the initial introductions, the new person stated he/she was a therapist working with a troubled 15 yr old Witness girl who wanted to quit the religion over the objections of her mother. (I believe the father is an unbeliever, but is supportive of the mother's efforts to force the girl to attend meetings.) The girl is extremely emotional and has run away more than once.

  At first, my radar went off, mostly because I've been deceived before due to having an open nature and eagerness to help troubled people. Upon questioning, the person seemed to be genuine and had a sincere interest in understanding issues facing minor JW's who choose to leave.

  I answered some questions regarding JW teachings and culture. (EG: What is Bethel and why do JW parents want their children to go there?) I told him I had a number of years experience as an active JW and had raised two children, but was not specially qualified to give advice of this nature. I then offered to put the individual in touch with those who may be more qualified and offered my e-mail address.

  I ended the conversation by saying: "BTW, if you are a fraud and are wasting me time, I'll come to (state) and kick your ass", to which he/she responded, "are all you guys so paranoid?" I said, if we're smart, we are.

  So, do you think this was a real therapist seeking help for a patient? If I do get an e-mail, would any of you be interested in assiting?
