Sorry to lose you in that position, Englishman. Your tempered fairness was an asset to this board and I for one regret the loss - although I respect your decision.

good people, i've decided that my days as a moderator are over.. it's been an interesting 3 years.
some highs, some incredible lows, some weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.
some hilarity, some tears.

"chill"? I've reached absolute zero. Where do I go from here, you geriatric, chisled, charter member of AARP?
Your version of "flash" involves a trench coat and a girl-scout troup.

Well, Seven...by all means, do a better version. I absolutely loved Myst; played it for hours on end and became absorbed (read "obsessed") with solving the puzzles.
The Crimson Room was a fun diversion, but if you can improve it, by all means do so. I for one would be willing to contribute a top-shelf bottle of Vodka to the cause.

i mean seriously, most of us have been inside for a number of years.
so during all this time did you ever see happy person or a family or were you ever truly happy there, even for a brief period of time?
if you were happy, when was it?
Again, good question. Berean makes a good point: is the "happy" proportion among JW's approximately the same in other religions? I dunno.
I do, however, know a couple of extremely happy, well-adjusted Witness families. They would, in fact, still associate with my inactive self if I encouraged it. They are genuinely nice people, their kids turned out good, their marriages are solid.
I have taken the somewhat unpopular position that not everyone who was raised in or exposed to the cult of JW's (and make no mistake, it IS a cult) becomes permanently, irreversibly damaged. Perhaps the majority are, but I don't think there are any conclusive studies. If I can site two or three examples of blissfully happy JW's, there must be more. I'm not talking about the artificial "happiness" you see in the DC dramas - I'm talking about how people are in every day life.
One family in particular I lived with for a period of two months when our home was being built. I saw them each and every day, and believe me...that's too long to "fake it". They had an enviable marriage, loving appreciative kids, and a great attitude towards outsiders. Sounds rare, I know, but it was the real deal.
Me? I had my happy moments. When I was ignorant of the erroneous doctrines, I was probably happy. Once the scales fell from my eyes, I got and stayed unhappy until I left. I had one of those happy endings, though.

this is for the watchtower guys at bethel who are assigned to read this website.
first of all, how ya do'n?
i hope you can read this despite your hangover.
Then tell him that smart ass seven006 guy is posting a thread topic again on JWD and ask him if you should go ahead and have me whacked. To be honest, I could use a good whacking right now so ya got my vote.
"In the last days there will come ridiculers with their ridicule saying: 'Where is this promised whacking of his?' And we shall say, it is yet to appear, but fear you not, ignorant slut; it is fast approaching.
"Amen, come Good Whacking!"

No matter how much you prepare for something like this, it still hits you hard. Just been through something similar myself.
There just are no magic words, other than to let you know we care and are thinking of you. Please take care of yourself, too. It's easy to forget about your own health when dealing with an ill loved-one.

i just had a flashback that reminded me of one of the only times i saw my elder-father somewhat "fed up" with his fellow brethren.
once upon a time, my father had some sort of first-aid badge from his workplace.
he was assigned the task of managing the first ais station at the circuit assembly.
I worked first-aid at conventions for a number of years because I had some work-related training. It was mainly a way to sit in a comfortable, air-conditioned area with a handy bathroom, rather than the bleachers.
Since most all D.C.'s are held in large cities, it seemed silly to have cots and bandages yet we turned most sick people away. We were told we could immobilize or stabalize a patient until medical care could be reached. I once rode in an ambulance with a sister having siezures since her husband could not be located.
However, I also worked first-aid at quick-builds. These locations were often in remote areas far away from hospitals or doctors. Also, the chance of a serious construction accident - given the lack of training on the part of most of the builders - seemed much more likely than a sister spraining an ankle because her heels were too high. People camped on-site and we did have occasional chest-pains in the middle of the night. We were equipped with oxygen and some fairly sophisticated emergency supplies. Once, a pregnant sister had fairly severe early labor pains along with some bleeding and we had to transport her. Why she was at this building site is beyond me!
