Asolutely agree with the above. In our cong only three working age men actually worked for an employer, the others either worked as window cleaners (but only three days a week to keep their benefit) or were on long term state handouts, except they werent "state handouts",we the working ones paid for them out of our taxes!! The congregation was a disgrace and locals werent fooled by it either,I used to be so embarassed when locals commented on the workshy attitude of Jehovahs people. Now I am free to tell them just what I always thought of them. They didnt mind reminding us though how Paul refused to be a burden on his brothers so he took a job as a tentmaker. Pity they didnt apply that to themselves!

They read off the names of those auxilliary pioneering; 75% of them don't work &
by Theocratic Sedition inhalf of that 75% get disability and ssi checks.
it was kinda funny sitting there listening to them go down the line, name by name, of the ones auxilliary pioneering since the numbers are dropped to 30 hours for march & april.
as they were doing the names i was saying to myself, "she don't work", "she supposedly can't work", "he hasn't worked in years", "she gets a check", "she's probably gonna lie about the amount of hours she did" etc.. gotta love it.. i don't know if this happens in your congregation or not, but have you ever heard someone remark about someone else behind their back, "she can show up at every gathering, but she can't show up for field service!

Shunned again today
by punkofnice inas i walked through the streets of my hometown i walked past a 'sister'tm).
at first i didn't recognize her as i wasn't paying attention.. she sort of gave me a bit of a smile (or did she have wind/gas?).
after i has passed her, it dawned on me who it was.. i'd given her family lifts to meetings and socialised with them.. i then realized she'd shunned me.

Evil Elderettes, the true Hounds of Hell!
by Bubblegum Apotheosis inmy wife was told a brother was going to be disfellowshiped, "how do you know this is going to happen?
" sister so-so said "he was not repentant or humble to the brother's kindness.
" instead of engaging into a heated debate, she knew who the leak was, so-so's husband.

Love this thread because in the main its so true. In my old congregation these women ruled the roost and knew EVERYTHING, one sister spoke to me about her husband downloading pornography on his works computer (what an idiot, like his boss wouldnt see it!!) I suggested she may wish to deal with it in the first instance with her husband,so after she tells me all the lurid details, once again I ask her why she wants to tell the elders, well to punish him of course she says,so I tell her "my dear,if you wish to...fine, but be prepared for this private information to be the topic at the breakfast table over the marmalade with the elders and their sweet wives by the morning. Sure enough within weeks it was the latest juicy tit bit for the field service group. Lovely ladies eh? So glad I had a dull life!

No one who leaves "the truth" is ever happy?
by El_Guapo infor years, i was told this..... " anyone who leaves the org is bitter, sad, and worse off, why do you think they come back???
guess what guys i am the opposite, now i quit cold-turkey (looking back, i should have faded correctly) i am planning on going to the memorial this month just to hear all "the friends" tell me how much they missed me.
since i have left the meetings, (jan. was my last meeting, i think).

Its true about the " we really miss you at meetings etc" its so utterly false! My husband says he is going to the memorial this year and I ask him ...why?? I see absolutely no point whatsoever in putting myself through that again, but he says "well, its the only command from Jehovah" feel sad for him, but refuse to be emotionaly blackmailed into sitting with those people. I lost a stone in weight after our upset but only because those people made me so ill I was unable to eat,I really ought to thank them for that because I looked great and felt so good about how I looked. Might go back just to lose a few pounds though!!

Who pioneered with the promise of having 'Jehovah provide' and ended up dirt poor anyway?
by Julia Orwell ini ask this because the wt always bangs on about if you trust in jehovah and make that leap into pioneering, you will always be provided for.
at the time i joined the cult, a friend was continuous aux.

We sold our house too and moved to a freezing cold run down rented cottage way out in the country and pioneered after a talk at an assembley. We lived on the interest from the money we made until the interest rates dropped through the floor, then we lived on the capitol till it was almost gone. Looking back I think we were foolish and caught up in the emotion of the whole thing because there were plenty of wealthy elders in our congregation and they never felt the need to "sacrifice" there homes and move their young families. Dont blame anyone but ourselves, our decision, our choice. Funnily enough our fortunes changed and we inherited some money and once again bought a lovely house again, but this time we were hanging on to it,we both carried on pioneering way into out sixties but we never felt the urge to impoverish ourselves again. Oh if we only we could turn back time eh?

A question for those that have been around this board for a long time
by JeffT inmy wife and i stopped going to meetings in 1988 and da'd in 1989. for a few years we both actively participated in the xjw world, she quit doing that a long time ago, and has pretty much completely moved on.
the other night i told her about my planned blog (which will probably launch this weekend) it will mostly be about my writing, a lot of which is mostly about jw related issues.
she asked why i am still so drawn to this subject.

She bashed me with the Watchtower then UNFRIENDED me!
by Julia Orwell inall i've done is posted scriptures on my facebook page for discussion.
this uber-jw 'friend' has engaged me in debate, each time cutting and pasting a whole bunch of wt quotes on whatever our topic is, and i've responded with scriptures and she could only answer with another wt quote, and now today i see she's unfriended me!
all her comments are gone too.
