Joining the army for a free education ?

In California Community Colleges where all kinds of technical

skills are and degrees are offered are practically free @ $46

per unit in 2013. Many State colleges offer subsidies, grants, and

work-study programs. That means a full load of 9 units per semester

is a mere $400. A professional certificate in 3-D rigging for animation

is 30 units. Which means a certificate in computer animation costs

you $1,380 , so your telling me young men are so ignorant they think

they have to sign away their life for the price of a laptop ?

Holy Cow Simon - Please don't let the world know how "not nice"

we Canadians really are I lived 25 years in California, but I was born

in Ottawa Ontario and returned to Canada in 1989

The first thing I noticed was all the bashing of Americans. Why ?

It doesn't make any sense Simon.

Because Americans BUY 85% of what Canada produces.

The Chinese, who we apparently LOVE do nothing but screw us over and BUY

only .8 % of what we produce. China is a one way street of

buying up, and owning our oil reserves and any other natural resource

they can get their hands on even though they have a government that does

not recognize Human Rights AT ALL

and China executes 5,000 people a year by taking them out and

shooting them through the head. That is 100,000 executions in 20 years.

Of their own citizens. These people we love ? No freedom of speech in China,

no freedom of the press, its a Communist Dictatorship

and we allow so many Chinese in Canada that Vancouver is 52% Chinese ?

You are hating on the wrong group Simon. Americans feed and clothe you becuase

they support our economy. And Americans believe in freedom of speech, freedom

of the press and civil rights. China kills its own citizens for the crime of disagreeing

with the government, at the rate of 50,000 in the last ten years,

that is more deaths than the Americans wars on terror.

We are the dependent child of the USA.

So why so self righteous about being Canadian ?

to say that it took me five minutes to read the whole thing would be to flatter the rag.

it doesn't even seem to contain actual articles any more, just headings and bullet points and pictures.

Quendi - I agree with you

Public education is a mess. I was given a student

in an architectural class, it was a middle school level,

but the child was severely intellectually limited, retarded,

as we used to say, he had aspirations to be an architect,

and his parents and the school thought my class in, How to

Create Scaled Drawings and Models from those Drawings, was

appropriate for him. Even with a teacher's aide, he sat there,

incapable of understanding what was going on and the aide did

all the work for him and when the aide left he stopped working

entirely. My job was to humor him by saying " good job" "good Job"

Knowing all the while in the real world he would be fired on the spot.

Have you read the latest copy of the ECONOMIST ?

Its complex, well researched, beautifully written

by highly intelligent people. How about the NEW YORKER ?

These are magazines addressing: literature, science religion,

ethics, social issues, politics, economics.

Don't take my word for it; pay the price and pick

up an issue of the Economist and the New Yorker and read it.

Or if you cannot afford it; go to the public library

and check out these magazines. The Watchtower and Awake

are ridiculous and embarrassing, written by idiots for idiots.

here i am, getting old and having my teeth and fillings (literally!

) falling apart now, and barely any dental coverage.

i just feel so sad and pissed off that i didn't do more when i was a jw and actually had coverage at the time.... .

I knew people who failed to get there children's club foot fixed or twisted back

on the belief Armageddon would fix everything, it is one of the horrors of what

the WT did to people by insinuation. Shaming people, making them feel guilty

about their own health care, teeth, cataracts, educating their own children to

equip them to do some useful and financially secure occuptation, it goes on and on.

I even knew a woman who had a child born blind and all that was required was

to remove the cataracts before the child was permanently blind, because if the cataract

is not removed the brain reassigns the light sensitive cells that deliver information to the

eye. This woman chose to let her child go blind, because the New World was coming.

Out with the old....

i purchased a condo late last year and due to my personal schedule, i wasn't able to redo it to my preferance until a few months ago.

all the heavy work is done.

now just replacing electrical outlets, fixtures and such.

jw07 me too - The beginning of the end for me was when a WT in 1989 ?give or take

had an article that referred to Rutherfords pamphlet "Millions Now Living Will Never Die"

written in around 1920 ? The 1989 WT called it Millions Now living MAY Never Die.

I had seen the original at one point in time and the old discarded "Truth" Book.

I couldn't let it go that they changed the title to MAY instead of Will. It bothered me.

I did an inter-library search for it and found an original copy, sure enough they were

misrepresenting this original pamphlet. It was the one that predicted the resurrection

of the prophets of old to occur in 1925 and led to the building of Beth Sarim in San Diego.

I think old literature, at least significant books or magazines with 1975 blazened on the cover

should be held and saved and kept in some central libray. This actually can free people who

are very much a "true believer" type ( like I was ) and research little details.
