From laundry mat to laundry mat
by donny inabout three years ago, i was walking past a local laundry mat and i noticed some of the society s publications laying on the chairs by the window.
so i walked inside and found an awake from 1995 and a watchtower from 1989. the latter one was funny to me because i was still in the organization when it was released.
i couldnt help but be shocked at how old these magazines were.

Laundromat witnessing was always my favorite! I never had to talk to anyione and it looked good on my time sheet.
When I left, I still had the hang up about not throwing away the books, so I boxed them up in a coat closet.
Unfortunately, my apartment building's drain backed up. Wouldn't you know it, the only things ruined were those boxes! All that crap was literally covered in crap! Not only did I get rid of it once and for all, but the landlord's insurance paid me a replacement fee of $150.00 and I got all new carpet in my hall and living room! Score!

What were your favorite assembly foods?
by NoRegrets inso i'm young enough to not remember having hot prepared meals at assemblies, but heard all about it from my parents and the like.
but what i do remember were all of the cold sandwiches and institutional snacks and soda.
remember the food tickets we started to use?

This is great! I'm a little jealous that some of you got hot food. I remember having the hoagies, pudding and Shasta as well. Don't forget the Fritos corn chips!
I also remember the first time I ever had a bagel was at a convention. I guess in Nebraska we are a little behind.
Did any of you ever leave the session a little early to get in line? We'd always have people leaving for "restroom breaks" about 10 minutes early and magically they'd be some of the first to return with lunch. Lucky!

I think I'm gonna puke. I remember some of this stuff from the yellow book in the 80s. How could they ever think this is appropriate for children? If they want to teach kids fairytales, why can't they just stick with Noah's ark or Jonah and the whale?

i think thy are all the same..th base logistics of how thy run thier affairs n worship is the same... thy ar all man made..all mind controlling..if religion is a big part of your life jus pick one and deal with its crap.coz its gonna be there.!.

What group within the Witnesses has the highest drop out rate?
by Ultimate Axiom inif you could categorise jehovahs witnesses into their various groups, i.e.
publisher, auxiliary pioneer, regular pioneer, special pioneer, missionary, co, do, bethel worker, born-ins, etc etc, (and you can subdivide into as many groups as you wish) what group do you think has the highest drop out rate?
i remember an ex ny bethellite saying that bethel cured him of the watchtower, and after reading the thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/160509/1/warren-schroeder-from-bethel-on-freddy-kline-and-the-apostate-books my guess is that it would be ny bethellites, but i am interested to know if there is a consensus on this, or on any other group, or no group at all..

Most of the people I've seen leave are born-ins or at least raised-ins. Especially the ones who were never actually baptized. When somebody else chooses your religion for you, it's harder to make it stick.

just finished reading the Candace Conti court docs
by soft+gentle ini had been reading discussions on topix about the case and decided to go see what was actually said and not said during the trial.
i'm left with several indelible impressions of the courage and honesty of candace and of her mother kathleen.. another thing is that the court was given the opportunity to really get a feel for the jw lifestyle.
the close family relationships they promote which emphasizes, for me, that if the elders had been as vigilant as they said they were they would have spotted that kendrick had become alarmingly close to candace.

This whole situation is just awful. How long will the WTBT$ keep putting their image above the safety of children?
When my mother became aware of a sex offender at our hall in the 1990s, she contacted the elders and was told to "sit on the other side of the room". When she discreetly warned a couple of the other sisters about it, she was taken in the back room for a talking to. Shortly thereafter, he was sent back to jail after commiting a different offense and being arrested. I sincerely believe that the elders should warn parents. Instead, they continue to sell the lie of everyone inside the hall being a big family that we should trust. I shudder to think what could have happened had he gotten ahold of some unsupervised kids at a convention.

My last JW event was he spring assembly in 2001. I'd already started fading in the congregation I was assigned to and had started making plans to seperate from my husband at the time. The only reason I went was to appease my family. It was pretty awkward, because it fell on our first wedding anniversary and my dad made a big deal about taking us out for dinner. I remember wanting to just get up and leave.

Another round of thanks for the insight. To clear things up, I am in the United States. Freedom of Info here seems to be different than in the U.K.. I may just see if I can get someone to call and "inquire" on my behalf. The only problem is, my parents will hear about it & I don't want them assume for an instant that I am in any way interested in going back! Of course, I could maybe just tell them I needed to know for my official apostate sign up!
@ Cold Steel- I completely agree with everything you say. Those clowns have no authority over me or anyone else. That's honestly why I had no interest if really going to the JC meething in the first place. I was so over they way I was treated and ignored before the separation. That alone was enough to make me want out. Add that to the fact that I didn't believe the BS they were spewing from the stage & I was done. I'm just glad to no longer be associated with such a group of idiots. However, the curiosity is still there.
