Astronomers now believe the universe is 13.7 billion years old (If I heard right). So even if the WT and a lot of other people believe the end is around the corner, the chances that God has planned to intervene in your lifetime (less than 100 years) are practically non-existent. However, keep in mind that crazy humans could do something stupid.... but in that case we'll all be toast.

Got this first hand from a horrified JW mom.
This JW mother had her young daughter with her in a store's fitting room after service. The little girl asked very loudly, "Mom is that lady a JW." The mom quietly replied, "No dear" The little girl then added in a very loud voice, "Then she's gonna get destroyed at Armaggedon huh, mummy"
Needless to say the mother didn't answer, but put her hand over her kid's mouth and stood quietly until the lady in the next stall left.
Talk about 'training up a child.'

People have always believed the sky is about to fall. When Russell first started his little group it was because as the end of the 19 th century approached there were many that believed the end was imminent. Armageddon was coming and the faithful would be raised into heaven. My father-in-law belongs to a group that more or less believed that they were going to be caught up and taken to heaven before 2000 and those left on earth were going to perish. They still believe it, just think it's been delayed.
Rest assured many who lived through WW1 and WW2 when bombers flew over their cities and Europe was in ruins believed it was the end.
The JWs have always believed the sky was falling. Without getting into dates, think about pretty recent history the cold war when JWs believed it was going to end tomorrow, nuclear or the Peace and Security stage when JWs believed destruction of the system and World Peace was for yesterday. And maybe this will reassure you: some JWs believed the FLQ terrorist crisis in Quebec, Canada that brought the army into the city of Montreal, was the beginning of the end. Guess what, aside from those who died from natural causes and accidents, everyone's still around.

My sister's dfing tore my mother apart. Some time I'll get into it. However dad got sick and things started to look up. But as soon as his health got better, guilt set in and the Borg ruled again (as Rayzor fittingly puts it; i.e see my icon).
Unless your parents free themselves of the mind control of the WT there is no way for them to change. Interestingly in our situation I learned that if the WT changed its point of view on dfing, my parents would be prepared to change theirs. So it's not the Bible or their personal comprehension that's important, it's current GB regulations that count.

Painting an empty apartment knock at the door
Ron the elder doing not-at-homes.
Comments on: Well how you doing Dave? Been a long time...then....
And so how are you doing spiritually?
Dave: Well I'm pretty much inactive (as Ron well knows)
Ron goes on to talk about his own experience, jussst about getting caught up in materialism, but realizing, jussst in time, how much time his job was taking away from the "Truth".
Dave reassures. Its not materialism, just a combination of a lot of things.
Ron takes a new tack and says brothers are all imperfect but we must remember it's the "Truth".
He must see some reaction to the word "Truth" in Dave's face because, right away, he says, "Don't tell me you're that far gone".
Dave: It depends how you define "Truth" I guess. Take for example the Generation thing. What you thought was true, what I thought was true, what everyone thought was true, what the WT taught was true.... I guess wasnt really true, was it?
Ron: Well you know the verse about the light getting brighter.
Dave: A lot of the friends would have made different decisions if the WT, the GB, and the speakers at the assemblies hadn't been constantly telling everyone it was the end of the generation and what they should be doing with their lives. W e always thought the Catholics were wrong to believe the Pope was infallible because we all knew he wasn't. T he JWs say they know the GB aren't infallible, but they seem to forget that fact. What's printed in the WT is called the "Truth". What is even worse is if you aren't in complete agreement with what is actually just "current GB understanding" you get kicked out. I remember bro. C. at an elder's meeting, joking about a brother who didn't agree on Sodom and Gomorrah. Instead of waiting on Jehovah to enlighten his organisation, the brother decided to run ahead. He got kicked out, when all he had to do was wait for the organisation to catch up. In the end, the organisation came around to this brothers view. The C.O. laughed about the brother foolishly running ahead but when you really think about it, it was the brother that got kicked out who had the "Truth", don't you think?
Ron: Come on Dave, Gods servants are all imperfect and when they make mistakes they admit it.
Dave: Another example is the King of the North and the King of the South. We used tell everyone the King of the North was the U.S.S.R., and the communists were going to invade and conquer, and sometime after that there'd be Peace and Security. Now the U.S.S.R. doesn't even exist. And peace and security...
Ron: The Society corrected that. Now we know its difficult to pinpoint just who the King of the North is. The new book says we have to wait on events to reveal who the King of the North is.
Dave: Oh, well that's good. That's more like it. Maybe the King of the North will be Bush ha-ha. Instead of getting into conjecture when we are imperfect, fallible men we wait and see. Yeah, that makes more sense. I like that. Because those verse-by-verse explanations of every detail used to really get to me.
Ron: Dave, we never did verse by verse...
Dave: Well I mean like for example the Rev. book. When I used to conduct the study, it bothered me to read that this resolution, and this assembly, and this tract, was prefigured by a seal, or a trumpet call or a pebble etc. And when the sister or the brother answered and I'd say like "exactly" or "right on the point". After all, we all knew it was just current understanding and would probably be changed in a year of two, didn't we?
Ron: Yeah, well we got a new Rev. book now Dave.
Dave: You know I'm a third generation Witness and if you went back to the teaching and the publications in the time of my grandparents, I think you'd be shocked. You probably wouldn't believe JW's were ever taught and believed these "Truths".
Ron: I know, J.D. showed me some of Russell's books he has. Some of it was true, but a lot were some pretty strange ideas. But Dave, you know that God has his faithful servant. And we have the "Truth". And we're all part of God's organisation. And with all the world events we know the end is just around the corner. So aren't you thinking of maybe coming back?
Dave: Well Ron. I won't even try to predict the future because I'd probably end up running ahead. Who would have ever guessed 10 years ago that I'd be in the position I'm in today. So I think the best policy is just to wait and see.
Ron: Well I'd like to encourage you to pray and just remember everyone's imperfect. I got to go now. Others are waiting on me.
Dave: Yeah well good to have seen you.
Ron: Yeah, well don't forget to pray now
I look at my watch 10:23. I pick up my brush and think hey, its coffee time at Tim Hortons.

Sorry but I guess you weren't the only concerned elder - see, it couldn't have been you cause we used to go to Tim Horton's. BTW all elder chauffeurs believe they are perceived as "loving". Just thought you'd like to know that the pubs. saw right through you and played the service game, but smirked behind your loving backs.

Our study conductor had it down to a honed science. He would load his car full and assign another car driver to follow to a faraway territory. Then he would drive around the territory and choose drop-off points. He would then signal the other driver to come up beside his vehicle. They would discuss the drop-off points and finally come to a decision where the occupants of the other vehicle would begin. Then he would again circle the territory and drop off the other twosomes in his car. After that he and his partner would do a house or two. Then it was time to check on everyone. He would drive around slowly and ask everyone how they were making out. After making sure everyone was o.k. he would make his second round to announce coffee-time. A great boss, especially if you worked with him. After coffee hed make sure he got Sister Visits in his car and drove her around to her calls the remainder of the morning.

You really gotta stop pulling that trigger, you'll have no foot left. Erasing your original post and giving more detail isn't making you look any better. Just take the medicine like a man. Give your ex. a descent settlement. Keep in mind that, with the .7 million you made last year and the fact she had to put up with all your crap all those years, she certainly deserves a fair share of the pie. With all the attention and beautiful woman constantly surrounding you I cant see you having any problem getting on with your life. So stop complaining about losing control over your wife. Just dust off your sandals and move on.

Hey Mary, your description of your dad sounds just like mine. I used to think I was the only one with a dad like that but I guess there's plenty in the org. As soon as Holly was introduced I said to my wife "Thats it, if the T.V was on at the parents house you can be sure it was just turned off" Tattoos and nose ring = rebellion = liars; and we will not listen to anything such a person has to say. When CBC showed her smoking that really clinched it: She would never tell the truth. She must be disfellowshipped. No wonder the congregation knew she was lying about the step-dad.
I remember dad talking about a brother being arrested for robbery and murder some years back. He told us he knew the brother was innocent. I said if he was condemned, there must have been some proof. All he could say was "He was wrongfully convicted, he was innocent" ..... why?.... "He was a brother". The congregation never took any action.

Sounds like you're in a tough situation Confuz. Does your wife want to leave the JWs? Doesn't sound like it. Do you want to remain a JW? Doesn't look like it. Sometimes you have to close a chapter of your life and move on. Only you can decide, but i s this one of those times? If you decide it's time to get on with your life t he decision will be difficult, but once made, things usually get better.
A dear friend of mine was in a conflict situation with a woman he loved. He was miserable for a long time. Things just wouldn't get better. Finally he decided he had to chalk it up to experience and get on with his life. In his case, he now says he should have done it sooner.
