In Australia at least one Kingdom Hall has rented out land space to Telstra to have a mobile phone antenna on site. They charged Telstra around $10,000 per year. After tax changes in 2000 they would have had to pay Goods and Services Tax on the income so they changed the payment into a 'donation'. Pot,Kettle!

My questions is - Does anyone have an idea of the value of such a booklet? Is it rare today? Before I look to sell it on ebay or the like I would love to get an idea of the value. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I like to sit on the aisle in business class, close to the front. Upstairs on a 747. I am right handed so I like to sit on the left hand side. That way I can work on my computer with my right hand and have my wine glass in my left. This way the flight attendant sees that it is empty and refills it quickly.

WT 1/1/07 the worst in a decade?
by why144000 inthere are a number of long time witnesses in my family ( 60 years plus) who are shocked by the contents of the jan 1 2007 wt.
for the first time they are telling me that someone in the writing department have it sooooo wrong!
in their minds it does not mean that the society as a whole is wrong because of their past comments (!!??).

For the first time they are telling me that someone in the writing department have it sooooo wrong! In their minds it does not mean that the society as a whole is wrong because of their past comments (!!??). But at least they see that something is wrong. I am caught between telling them some things that could further weaken their faith or recognising that they have lived their live by a certain creed and who am I to burst their bubble. I agree that the Jan 1 WT is one of the worst, least researched set of articles I have read yet I am keeping silent because, who am I to tell my elders they have wasted their lives? Why shold I try to undo the the things my relatives have lived their lives by for 50 or 60 years?

The truth about the donation arrangement
by Wolfgirl ini never knew this...just found it today.
made me giggle.. payment of sales tax on literatureon 17 january1990 the u.s. supreme court made a ruling that sales tax must be paid on religious literature.
the following month, a letter from the watchtower society went out to all congregations stating that there would no longer be a set price for literature but that they would be given to the public on a donation basis.
-
why144000
The main reason that the Watchtower Society of Australia ( the legal entity) moved to the donation arrangement was to avoid the (then) new Goods and Services Tax implemented in Australia. I believe that, if someone gained some legal advice it would be proved that the Society are guilty of blatent tax evaision. I visited bethel in Australia before the tax was legislated and had discussions with the treasurers department regarding the issue. It ended in "you say we are and we say we are not". Such is life!

Jail for sex Crimes
A long-serving member of the Jehovah's Witness church has been jailed for sexual offences he committed against two young brothers more than 30 years ago. Rex Peterson, now 69, was brought into Brisbane District Court in a wheelchair for his sentencing yesterday because of multiple debilitating medical conditions. It is expected that he will need around-the-clock care in prison. Judge Michael Shanahan jailed him for three years but ordered the term be suspended after he had served four months.
Anyone know this guy? Why did it take 30 years for this to come to court? To be fair this was not the only instance of sex abuse reported in the paper, there was a couple of other reports.
