My mother in law (in her 80's) just told me that she had the elders around to pick up her 'donation' pledge. It was 'suggested that $20 a month was the average amount pledged but she could pledge more or less. So, rather than an anonymous amount they have a signed document stating the amount of her pledge. When I told her that Russell said that money would never be solicited and that if Jehovah did not provide the organisation would close down. She said that she had to put the organisation first. I said she should put God first and the organisation second she fell back to the old line 'Jehovah appointed the organisation so we need to be obedient to it' At that point I stopped banging my head against a brick wall.

"Who else is preaching in twos? Who else is putting kingdom interests first? Who else rejects the trinity?"
by Island Man inthe next time a jw asks you the questions in the title, just tell them about the "two by twos" and the "cooneyites".. they have some similar beliefs as jws but are even more zealous in putting kingdom interests first, living far simpler and less materialistic lives than even zealous jws.
they reject the triniy as unscriptural.
they preach in twos.

How about the 'One by One Band' that was active in England in the early 1900's? Thomas Hogben wrote a book called 'My Witnesses" that taught that each person should be a 'Jehovahs Witness' and go door to door to convert people on an individual basis. I always wondered whether Judge Ratherflawed read the book and yars later stole the idea.

144000 Literal or Figurative?
by why144000 inthe speaker at the memorial tonight stated straight up that the 144,000 is a literal number as we will stop celebrating the memorial when jesus 'arrives' and takes the few remnant with him.
how can the society change the 144,000 to figurative without blowing themselves out of the water?.

I agree with you Kate however I do feel sorry for the poor saps who have to stand up and espouse the current "truth' then have to stand up next year (or the year after) and sound just as convincing about a backflip.

Have I got this right?
by why144000 inthere are now 4 classes of annointed.. 1. those alive in jesus day who heard him say "this generation will by no means pass away...".
these are all dead and buried.. 2. this group was on hand in 1914, and they readily discerned the sign of christs presence in that year.
those who made up this group were not merely alive in 1914, but they were spirit-anointed as sons of god in or before that year.

2. This group was on hand in 1914, and they readily discerned the sign of Christ’s presence in that year. Those who made up this group were not merely alive in 1914, but they were spirit-anointed as sons of God in or before that year. This group are now all dead and buried.
3. This group included in “this generation” are anointed contemporaries of the first group. They were not simply alive during the lifetime of those in the first group, but they were anointed with holy spirit during the time that those of the first group were still on earth.(WT 1/14). If we take Fred Franz as the last of this group then only people anointed prior to 1992 would be included in this group.
4 This group became anointed after the last of group 2 died and are not included in the 'generation' Jesus spoke about.
So we now have 4 groups of anointed but in reality only 8 men are the faithful and discreet slave (only when they meet together).
Why does this sound batshit crazy to me?

Please Share one of your Favourite Quotations
by cofty inhave you ever come across words that resonate with you?
it doesn't have to be a great gem of wisdom, just something that is meaningful to you.. please share, and if you want to, tell us why it's meaningful to you.. here is something that made me nod when i first read it.... .
"fortunate are those who have learned to see, in the wild things of nature, something to be loved, something to be wondered at, something to be reverenced, for they have found the key to a never-failing source of recreation and refreshment".

Baptism reversal
by DanmeraDinglebum inhas anyone ever heard of someone getting their baptism reversed?
ever?.
-
why144000
Yes, I know of a young man who was practicing martial arts secretly while he was studing for baptism. Once it all came out a few months after he got dipped the elders decided to annul the baptism and he has not been dunked again. Not a particularly smart cookie but that was one smart move!
