I think we do pretty darn good considering we were around a religion that discouraged us from learning anything that wasn't in the wt or awake.

by surferdude inand yes this post is a joke,,, but the content is not,,, i know i am not perfect, but come on!!!!!!

how did you guys do it?
by Realist ini have to say i admire everyone who was strong enough to leave the wt organization.
alone these horrible stories about armageddon must scare the hell out of everyone who was brought up with it or who was in the org for several years.
hell even to me they sound really frightning and i don't believe in this nonsense.. secondly you loose most of all of your friends!.

I had few friends and not enough energy to stay in. I don't think it took courage or strength to leave. So many things had built up. I was ready to go. And when I walked away, I felt relief more than anything. I was the same person, but free.

How often do you get called on?
by In_between_days inthose who are not "blacklisted" by the wt, do you often get dubs at your door?
ive been at this address for almost a year and i have never had the pleasure of their witnessing work!
whats going on?

During the last five years that I've been inactive, I have had evidence that the elders have been to my door twice. The first time was several months after I quit going to the meetings (I didn't answer the door) and then last year, there was a hand-written invitation to the memorial on my door from my favorite elder (he was a really nice guy). Another year, a sister who lived in my complex put an invitation in my door and wrote that she would give me a ride if I needed one.
Otherwise, I haven't seen anyone in my area actually doing the preaching work. I have thought it strange. You would think, if we were so close to The End, they would be knock, knock, knocking now more than ever.

Am I the only 'fruit cake" here?
by Marilyn inbefore i confess to my rediculous weakness, i just want to assure everyone that i've been out for over 20 yrs - disfed for apostasy - that's true apostasy, as i stopped believing in god.
i (& hubby) were disfed in 1981. never met another apostate or read anything apostate when we left.
thought our way out unaided.

Hi, Marilyn, I happen to like fruitcakes! Yes, sometimes I miss the stuff that drew me in in the first place. The wholesomeness. Then I realize, like you said, it's only smoke and mirrors.
I totally agree with what you said about apostasy. I'm not an apostate, I didn't turn away from God, only a man-made religion.

(((((((Scarlet))))))
I'll e-mail you! Central was the first congregation I went to when I moved here in 1985. We were staying with a family (that went to Central) for a couple of weeks until we got our own place and started to go to North Park. People got to know my son, Eric, before he died and so it was the Central congregation where we had his memorial service. The family we were staying with took us out on a boat and we had a service there and scattered Eric's ashes. I heard that they moved north several years ago.
The presiding overseer's wife and the wife of the family we stayed with were very close, so they were good to us, too. Several years ago, when I was at a district convention, she came up to me with a huge plant (that had been on stage) and gave it to me. We hugged and cried. What a sweet person she was. I heard that she got cancer, too. I don't even know if she's still alive. Will tell you more in an e-mail.
Love,
Dottie

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAKOTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm 54, too, and we aren't getting older, we are getting BETTER!!!! I am dating a 45-year-old man and he says that I am 'vivacious, gorgeous and funny', that I have features that are 'elegant', skin that is 'soft' and 'cuddly' and that he couldn't sleep last night thinking of me. I find that my life is getting better with age. We are fine wines with character, experience and good taste (yeah, he says that I taste 'sweet').
I am so happy to have lived this long and to feel this good about myself. It's a second wind for me and it's much better than the first. I feel more beautiful today than when I was 21.
May you have many, many more happy birthdays!!!
Love,
Dottie
