a man and a woman were dating, she being of a religious nature had held back the worldly pleasure that he so desperately wanted from her.
in fact, he had never even seen her naked.. one day, as they drove down the freeway, she remarked about his slow driving habits.
"i can't stand it anymore," she told him.

i play pc games for the most part.
i'm still in the old counter-strike mode.
but i also like to play unreal tournament 2003 and 2004. i also like battlefield 1942/vietnam and farcry.. i would recommend the athlon 64 or fx(if you gots lots of cash) series from amd over a pentium, since they run 32 stuff fast now and can do 64 bit when the production version is released.
I am still addicted to Counterstrike....Handle is Deathwish(usually playing on one of CSGamers servers..Iceworld..csg2.csgamer.com)
I finished Painkiller which was cool for the fact it freaked me out a couple of times..Kinda spooky playing at night with no lights and surround sound. Star Wars Jedi Knight was cool as was Call of Duty. Finished Condition Zero Deleted Scenes and am half way through Condition Zero on Expert.
BTW...Valve is porting Counterstrike as well as most of the other HL1 content over to the Half-life 2 source-engine. I watched a low res video of Counter-strike running on that engine on de_Aztec..All I can say is WOW!!!!(site is in german but the link to the video is at the bottom http://www.planethl2.net/patches.php?release_id=91)

is it money?
the challenge?
a militant anticapitalist or antitechnology ideology?.
Boredom.
When people think of hackers they picture a pimply teen nerd. Not so.
Hackers come from all walks of life and ages. They could be an MIT grad or a high school dropout
There are different types of Hackers but they are broken up into two main "groups". Black Hat and White Hat hackers.
Black Hat--Comprised of the merely curious as well as the malicious. Many hackers are merely curious and do little if no damage to systems they access. Script kiddie's are mainly Hackers that download scripts(programs) that can be used to help "hack" or access a computer system. Script kiddies can cause alot of problems as they have enough knowledge to be dangerous and can do alot of damage to systems they hack. A true Black Hat hacker makes his/her own programs and is mainly motivated by boredom. They want a challenge. They may also belong to a group of Hackers and one group tries to outdo the others.
Of course there are hackers employed by governments around the world ie. China.
Many companies are victims of hackers including Fortune 500 companies. Most of the intrusions are not reported so as to not panic the public or stockholders.
No system is totally secure. If the Hacker is good enough and wants to get in he/she will.
White Hat--Work mostly to combat Black Hat hackers. Some Black Hat hackers will get jobs in IT security fields and turn into a White Hat. Many security companies have started up and is proving to be a booming business.
Crackers will work at breaking protection schemes on software etc. Alot of 'warez' groups are composed of crackers. They often get their hands on software long before it hits the market. They break the protection and release the product to the public via warez sitez, mIRC or the P2P programs.
I feel that there always will be hackers and crackers. To protect your-self make sure you have a good antivirus program as well as a good firewall.(Hardware and software)Be careful about what you download lest you download a Trojan that opens a port on your system to allow easy access to your computer. You can minimize the risks but NO system is secure. I don't want to scare anyone but this is the reality of life today.
My 2 cents

Trying to cheer up a bit and thought I would look for something to make me laugh. My department was downsized last week and now I am looking for work.I've been pouring over job boards and such .I needed some comic relief and I ran across a site that I thought was hilarious. http://www.virushead.net/jwhumor.html
I also got my hands on something that I'm not sure what to do with. Could one of the mods PM me please?

beware of the 'voice of strangers'.... .
...unless she has a sexy voice, her phone number starts with 1-900, and it costs you $4.00 a minute to talk to her .
seriously, has anyone every called '900' numbers or the like for umm, the entertainment value?
I haven't personally called these 900 numbers but a couple of my buddies have. When I got married I had some buddies stay at my place before the wedding. They called some of these numbers without me knowing and I ended up with the bill. I was a good dubbie a the time and was quite upset with them. I laugh about it now but I never did get the $60 they owed me.lol

just out of curiosity.... how many of you here have an intel processor in their computer.
how many have amd?
how many dont know what they are using?
Actually Intel is having a problem with heat in their new Prescott processors. The cpu's and the motherboards they are mounted run very hot. The Prescott's still use the S478 connection but there seems to be a heat issue with the current boards running this chip. Check it out at www.hardocp.com. (Performace of this chip is somewhat lacking as well)
I currently have three systems..Two running AMD cpu's(1700+ and an 800 Duron) along with my P4 3ghz system. Both Intel and AMD have their good and bad points as was previously mentioned. Working in computer repair I have seen a fair share of blown Intel and AMD cpu's. The main causes is that people tend to not look after their systems. They are usually clogged with dust(spider webs as well) which causes the system to generate alot of heat which can lead to component failure.
Performance wise the top of the heap (not including overclocked systems) would be the P4 Extreme Edition CPU's. They run as fast and faster in many tests as the AMD64 chips. They have 2megs on-die cache but the cost is high and are hard to find in my neck of the woods.

Specs
I build my own systems....I miss my old 486 DX2/66.....ahh...The memories.
Currently running ---Intel P4 3ghz 800fsb/512 megs Corsair DDR400 running in Dual Channel/Ati 9700 Pro vid....
Previous system was an AMD 2500 Barton running on a nice Asus(A7N8X DX rev.2) board....Worked great but got an awesome deal on the Intel gear and so switched. The AMD was great for overclocking and was very cheap to build. The processor costs about a $125 CDN and is a great bang for the buck.
Next system will probably be an AMD64 based system once the price drops....Lots of changes coming in computer technology this year and it gives me a good reason to upgrade...ie..BTX form factor/DDR2 and PCI Express.
Guess I'm a big geek eh?
