Stupid parent tricks
by LuckyLucy inas a child when i would cry (a big no no in our family).
my dad would say" if you keep crying i will give you a reason to cry".
if we spoke at the dinner table, he would reach across the table (did'nt matter how far away you were..his arm seem to grow) he would thump our heads as hard as he could(leaving a bruise).

I could write a book about this, as many xJWs have already. The emotional turmoil was perhaps the worst in our house. "You're stupid," "fat," "ugly," "I'll give you something to cry about," "I brought you into this world, I'll take you out," "Children should be seen and not heard," not to mention all the beatings. But for some reason, it has been the words that have hurt the most. The WTS encouraged this behavior especially in the 70s and 80s (at least that's when I remember everything).
As a kid, I remember so badly wanting to hear a talk telling parents not to abuse their kids, telling them that belittling is wrong, and that children are precious beings that should be given the most tender care. Instead all I ever heard from the platform was not "to spare the rod," and not to irritate your children. Of course, I thought maybe not irritating your children was a step in the right direction until those f**ks in NY made "do not be irritating your children" to mean that you must be consistent with your punishment. Therefore, if you say you are going to hit your child, then you better do it, lest they be irritated and your prayers hindered.
It angers me every time I think about it.

Bethelites - did they read the Bible in a year?
by jack2 inas many of you know, bethelites are "required" to read the entire bible within a year when they serve there.
my question, to any who served there or who may know any who did, is: did they really read the entire bible in year's time?
frankly, i wonder how this "requirement" could be met, seeing how long the scheduled work hours are plus the other things that are expected of them.

I was raised a witness and never read the entire Bible. I doubt that many of them did read it in a year. How would anyone have known if they didn't?

*** Rbi8 Deuteronomy 22:23-24 *** 23 In case there happened to be a virgin girl engaged to a man, and a man actually found her in the city and lay down with her, 24 YOU must also bring them both out to the gate of that city and pelt them with stones, and they must die, the girl for the reason that she did not scream in the city, and the man for the reason that he humiliated the wife of his fellowman. So you must clear away what is evil from your midst.

It really chaps my ass because NEVER should a woman be asked about her intentions after being raped. So I guess if a JW woman is raped, that is cause for the elders to visit her. If they came to visit me after being raped to ask some questions, I would tell them to stick it up their asses. I never thought about this before, but do the elders interrogate a "sister" that has been raped?

Hypocritical funeral of a JW fireman, geesh
by Aaac ina typical jw funeral: helmet placed on the coffin, bagpipe played, honour made etc.
how outragingly are these people abusing their dead members!
they are trying to get some sympathy of the tragedy of 11th sept.!

I'm not sure that I'm following this correctly. Was the fallen fire fighter a Witness? If so, then why was so much mention given to what this man did versus preaching to the people and would Bethel have approved this form of funeral talk? If not, would Bethel have approved a member of their team to give a funeral talk to a wordly person that does not include preaching?

Maybe I'm missing something here, but is this interview going to be published somewhere or available for us to hear over the computer?
One subject we discussed was the Witnesses history, in agreement with an OT rule, of requiring a woman to scream during a rape, or she may be considered guilty of immorality.
Here is part of Brown's response:
"We feel that is a reasonable position to take."
"If this [screaming] has been done, then we are not going to view that, obviously, as some immorality."
So, Brown defended the policy. There was much more.
I'm not trying to be a bitch or anything, but this is way too limited of a conversation for me to believe that he stated that women who do not scream are guilty of immorality. Maybe I'm being crazy, but does the WTS still hold on to this belief? Anyone have the latest printed material on this topic? I would be most interested in hearing the entire inverview with Brown and reading what was printed on this topic before believing that this is their stand on this issue. And, if in fact this is their stand on this issue, well, "bitch" won't even begin to describe how I will act. -

When Urama could no longer afford the rent on their home in Great Falls, a counselor urged her to enter a shelter in Reston. From there, United Community Ministries Inc., a nonprofit agency, found the family a two-bedroom apartment in Janna Lee Village for $1,350 a month. Urama paid $450 a month; the agency paid the rest.
Now, this "sister" had to rely on a community organization to assist her. I would bet money that United Community Ministries Inc. has "false religion" tied up in there somewhere. What do you think?

What should I do?
by siegswife inthis isn't jw related, but i was hoping to get some feedback on a problem that i'm having.. here's the deal.
yesterday my downstairs neighbor told the maintenance man that she want to shoot us (my family).
i've known for about 2 years that she has some mental problems and was somehow focused on us, but i didn't realize to what extent.. two years ago, around christmas, we came home from somewhere and saw 2 christmas cards laying on the rug outside our door.

Not to make light of this situation, but "were there two witnesses to this threat?" If not, "then I would walk away from it." So what if she shoots you in the ass, at least you will have followed scriptural protocal.
