I was just a kid, but evidently the elders came calling for an unannounced shepherding visit. My father's side of the family suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, so it must have kicked in that day and he laid them out right there in his yard. Needless to say, he was disfellowshipped promptly. I've only heard this from family tales, so I'm not too sure of the details. Of course, my mind can see their book bags flying through the air with mags falling out along the way. I've always wondered if they turned the other cheek.

This happened in Oakland, WV. Anyone ever hear about this? My uncle was as crazy as a loon, and evidently when the elders came knocking, he decided to beat them up. Just curious if anyone ever heard the story. This would have been 20 years ago.

Firstly, you didin't tell us how old are your children. Secondly, If i was you, I'll do what i could to get myself reinstated, as the saying go's "talk the talk and walk the walk". Suck up to the elders and tell them what they want to hear yuo don't have to mean it, and then when your inreinstated, just cool off, little or no meeting, and of course no witnessing. Do it for your kids. It will never end. I still play the game because of my wife and kids. Its not so hard.
First, I'm so happy for you because of your win in court, but even more so because your daughter overcame her horrid fear and came inside that studio to see you.
If you follow the advice above that was given in an earlier post, you will continue to condone that fear that she and your other child have ingrained within them. When I was disfellowshipped at the age of 29, I felt like I was 10-years-old in reference to the fear that had been instilled in me. I wanted to run back to the religion with every thought that the world was coming to an end - especially with Sept. 11, 2001. However, it was the effort of mature people that showed me it was okay to be free from an ideology that binds one's thinking, motivation, and enjoyment of life.
You now have the opportunity to show your children that it is possible to be happy and that there is nothing to be afraid of being away from that organization - in other words, that God is not going to kill you or them if they should later decide to leave the organization. However, I would not discuss this with them because that will only make them fear that you are an agent of Satan trying to pull them away from the religion. Allow them to see how happy and free you are away from the organization and that it is possible for enjoyment and peace to be achieved outside of that wretched belief system.
It took four months for the horrid fear to wear off after I was disfellowshipped, and after that I moved in one direction only - away from the Witnesses, never to look back. Good Luck!

That they don't want to "clutter" their literature is so unscholarly. Every scholarly piece of work I've ever read is "cluttered" with resources - in fact they attach pages of resources to the ends of articles. That's what makes them credible. And the WTBTS has tried to claim that their literature can stand up against what comes out of universities. Oh God (yes, God with a big G) give me a break!

A Quote on This Forum Slaps Women
by writerpen inobviously one of my pet peeves as a former witness was their continual disregard for women and their demand for obedience from us "inferior" beings.
as i would read the literature, i would be inferiorated as they would begin talking about sins or anything negative and immediately change to the feminine sense.
hell, even the bible does that - remember this scripture from the new world translation: "listen to your father who caused your birth, and do not despise your mother just because she has grown old.

Please know that I wasn't implying that the poster hates women. I was implying that he was following a typical norm. Let's look at it outside of the scope of the WTSB, since they don't have a clue. No, let's look at this issue from a scholarly point of view. I've just studied this issue at my university.
In his Society: The Basics (7th Ed.), John J. Macionis notes that language is used to denote ownership and power as well as value especially in reference to gender (this is taken from page 99 of the above-mentioned book):
Language and power. A young man astride his new motorcycle rolls proudly up his friend's driveway and eagerly asks, "Isn't she a beauty?" On the surface, the question has little to do with gender. Yet, why does the fellow use the pronoun "she" rather than "he" to refer to his prized possession?
The answer is that language helps men to establish control over their surroundings. That is, a man attaches a female pronoun to a motorcycle (or car, boat, or other object) because it reflects ownership. Perhaps this is also why, in the United States and elsewhere, tradition dictates that a woman who marries take the last name of her husband. Because many of today's women in the United States value their independence even as they marry, about one in five keeps her own name or merges two family names.
Language and value. Typically, the English language treats as masculine whatever has greater value, force, or significance. For instance, the adjective "virtuous," meaning "morally worthy" or "excellent," is derived from the Latin word vir, meaning "man." Contrarily, the disparaging adjective "hysterical," meaning uncontrollable emotion, comes from the Greek work hyster, meaning "usterus."
In many familiar ways, language also confers different value on the two sexes. Traditional masculine terms such as "king" or "lord" have retained their positive meaning, whereas comparable terms such as "queen," madam," or "dame" have acquired negative connotations. Similarly, the use of suffixes "-ess" and "-ette" to denote femininity usually devalues the words to which they are added. For example, a "major" has higher standing than a "majorette," as does a "host" in relation to a "hostess." Thus, language both mirrors social attitudes and helps perpetuate them.

In this PC time, when using 'he' as a generic pronoun has become unacceptable, many people often use 'she' as a generic pronoun instead. I would assume that is what the author was doing. And I think it's extremely unfair of you to imply otherwise with no evidence.
I think it's odd (actually it's not odd, as it dates back to the scriptures as noted in the one I quoted) that the poster changed to the feminine tense when he denoted negative activity when the entire topic was about a male lawyer.
